Talk about shock and awe! At The Game Awards 2023, Arkane Lyon revealed their next project in development and we were NOT prepared! It's a collaboration with Marvel on the iconic vampire hunter Blade from the comics! It's safe to say this was not on my bingo card of game announcements for TGAs! When the conversation started way back about Xbox needing their own Marvel game, Blade was the first one I thought of, I even imagined the trailer playing the song from the opening scene of the 1st movie. Glad to see it's becoming a reality.

Great informative video bro! I'll admit I didn't believe the leaks when I saw it, but seeing how happy Dinga was to tackle the character, I have no doubt that Blade is in good hands. I just wish it wasn't so far out 😭

8:27 fun fact: while Arkham Asylum (and the series in general) was inspired by multiple Batman’s stories from the comics with bits of Tim Burton and the 1992 Animated Series, the major inspiration for the game was Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, a story that i encourage everybody to read not only for being one of the best of Batman ever, but also because it was the main inspiration for the atmosphere of the first game.

This was one of, if not, the biggest surprises at The Game Awards. Had bot heard anything about a Blade game in the works, or that the team behind the breathtaking Dishonored series was making it. My friends and I excitedly freaked out when it was revealed!

Also I'm curious if the game will be open world or linear? If it's linear I hope it is packed with secrets and it's pretty lengthy without some kinds of padding. If it's open world, I hope Lyon is taking notes from Redfall to make Blade great.

I have a feeling it will be a semi open world game with large hub-like areas that you can explore. Just speculation of course, we won’t know for sure until about maybe a year from now!

Good video, always nice to hear you excited about some gaming news. The announcement kinda concerns me so I'm not sure what to think, but the game itself will probably be fine. One nice thing about third person is stuff like vaulting becomes a lot less of an issue, so in some ways, it might actually feel better to play. I like vampires, so I'm always down for more vampire games. I also find it funny that Redfall comes out and is garbage and then Lyon is immediately like, "No, no Austin, THIS is how you do vampires!"

I agree, the third person perspective is going to make them approach gameplay very differently than what they’ve done before. The irony is not lost on me that Arkane are doing ANOTHER vampire game! 😅 and while I definitely enjoyed aspects of Redfall, as a whole experience it fell flat unfortunately. I love Emily in Dishonored 2, she is top 3 best protagonists in any video game, however a third person game is the right call for blade because it's much easier and approachable to develop a character in third person (which is a must have in a game with an iconic character like blade). First person invites self projection from the player, that's why in first person games it is very common for the companions to be more remembered/liked than the protagonists (just look at Elizabeth from bioshock infinite or Alyx from half life 2). I'm always expecting great things for the next arkane game because it has the chance to be my next favorite game, single player immersive sims are my favorite type of game and as long as Arkane keeps making them I'll be excited.

I remember watching the show live in the bathroom and saw "Arkane Lyon", gasped and said "DISHONORED 3?!?!" But when we got the scene with the front of the barbershop, I knew immediately it was not in that universe when I saw the cross (and verbally said "oh" in a disappointed tone). I know very little about superheroes generally, so I was completely lost until it said "Marvel Blade" and it really hit me there, especially seeing Arkane at the bottom. I was super caught off guard but I am very much excited to see how they do this. On top of all that though, this game has a TON of hype, as seen all over social media and the hundreds of reactions I've watched here on RU-vid. They need to be pretty careful with how they handle this, since a) it's a licensed, Marvel game, so people will have pretty high expectations; and b) they need to really live up to all the hype behind the game. Although I am nervous, I am still excited and optimistic to see how the game turns out! Looking forward to your coverage!

I'm so happy MS bought Bethesda and co. There were rumors Arkane was going to be shutdown under Zenimax because the games werent selling well. Zenimax gutted Arkane Austin and apparently at least 80% of the staff had left AND Zenimax forced them to make a live service game. Under Phil Spencer and Xbox they now get to make the games they want to make. It's the perfect environment for creators. I'm a hypocrite though because while I like developers being able to pick their own projects I wanted Arkane to work on a popular IP so Arkane would be more appreciated by the masses. Lucky for me Dinga wanted this IP.

The artstyle for this game is going to be timeless. It's a serious breath of fresh air from the photorealism games like Insomniac's Spiderman. The arkham games went for a mix of both comic and realism with it characters having exaggerated features like joker, Ivy or Bane. Blade is going full on into the spider verse/comic book aesthetic and I'm loving it. And if it's going to be anything like the dishonored series and it's level design... Xbox has a winner in it's hands. The game not being in New York is a winner honestly.

Hi ArkaneRealm, I was very surprised seeing Blade as next Arkane project, after the Dishonored 3 leaks (and Deathloop 2). However I am giving this game big hope. I think Arkane have some obsession with vampires :D (Redfall ehm ehm) Do you guys know if it will be xbox exclusive, I have playstation and this piss me off

The part of my brain that deals in logic tells me that Microsoft would be dumb to NOT make this an exclusive. However, and I really couldn’t tell you why, my gut tells me it might actually be multi platform. Who knows? It’s still early days so let’s wait and see! I will be very thorough and say, Blade will likely be an original story; HOWEVER, I don’t think it will be “entirely” original. It likely will have key story elements from certain comic books, I say that because Arkane still needs a set of reference points, and you don’t wanna disrespect me and many other comic book fans by doing things completely out of the lore and history of blade. I’m very excited, to see how they pull this off. I believe Arkane wouldn’t take on a project like this if it meant compromising creative freedom but I also imagine they wouldn’t take this project without heavily being considerate of blades fan base seeing how he’s already an established character and brand. In Arkane we trust. Hope to see it deliver, the polar opposite to RedFall. This game should elevate them to crazy new heights.

Oh yes, there’s no doubt in my mind that they would take massive creative liberties with the character. 50 years of comics to draw from for this story so they’re not short on inspiration! Dinga actually basically said that THEY were the ones who pitched this game to Marvel and NOT the other way around which tells me that this project is genuinely something they WANT to do and not something they’re being FORCED to do. The Blade character has a wide open canvas for Arkane to exploit and he could be anywhere and in any universe. He could be on a Starfield planet or in a State of Decay location or in a CyberPunk city, or in Diablo, or in a South African action/adventure game or in a Jamaican horror folklore game . He doesn't even look like the typical comic book hero with their silly outfits. He's just a Kool Cat.

Well, considering the fact that Kathleen Kennedy is involved with Lucasfilm and NOT Disney or Marvel in any larger capacity, I’m sure we won’t have to worry about her involvement. This is a Marvel project, she literally has no jurisdiction over what they do.

From a business standpoint I don't really believe in licensed ip. Why build a game if you can't build brand equity over time? It's a short term solution. That doesn't mean Arkane can't build a great Blade game. Of course they can. I just don't agree with it as a business decision. This studio seems to be going through some changes after R Colantonio leaving. After Prey we've had Wolfenstein Youngblood, Deathloop, Redfall and now Blade. What I see is a studio whose identity is in transition to something new, something a bit more explicitly commercial but hopefully with some of that old Arkane flavor. I have some affection for the old Blade films. The CG is not good, even for the time, and I definitely enjoy the more R rated violence and tone. It's a comic book movie from before the time when the MCU formed it's house style.

I understand. A lot of folks were hoping that Arkane would continue with Dishonored 3 or another brand new IP and a licensed game seems really strange for them to be focusing on. That being said, like I mentioned in the video, Dinga seems so passionate about this project and Arkane were the ones to pitch the game to Marvel instead of being forced to make the game based on a publisher decision. Arkane has definitely gone through some noticeable changes since Colantonio left, and I’d still like to make a video tackling the very subject. Always appreciate your perspective Perry! Initially I was very pissed off about this. One of my biggest fears seemed to come true of them being forced into licensed franchises. As happened with Square Enix and Eidos. The journalist news articles surrounding Redfall did not help to ease my anxiety for this being the case at all... Except this soon turned out to be a passion project and my fears were replaced with happiness for the team at Lyon. First and foremost I wanted Dishonored 3, but I also want anything Arkane is passionate about. So I decided to set aside my own wants, and then to be happy for Arkane instead and they got to do a passion project. My favorite development studio deserves any chance they can get to get their creative juices flowing so I can enjoy the ride and get a new great experience.... Every single game of them I have enjoyed. From their classics to their golden age. Even Redfall I enjoyed. So I am ready for whatever they cook, as long as Arkane is passionate about it.

Dinga essentially stated while at The Game Awards that Arkane were the ones who pitched the idea for this game to Marvel and not the other way around. This fact already makes me feel much more comfortable about this game existing in the first place, because they wouldn’t be tackling Blade as a project if they didn’t want to! Don't forget. Redfall happened because of Zenimax forcing Arkane to make a live service game. Once Microsoft bought them Redfall was already done. Under Phil Spencer leadership developers have the freedom to make the games they want to make. If you're a Bethesda fan the Microsoft acquisition should be a blessing. Now for the first time teams at Bethesda get to make the games they want to make. Watch Arkane Austins new game be a banger.

@@TheArkaneRealm I want this Blade game to be successful (dishonored & prey were good) & I love insomniac Spider-Man. But I have justified concerns, especially with everything going on in the gaming industry. Bethesda are known for mis marketing and tapering with studio work. Being “cautious optimism” & bringing “constructive criticism” to the table isn’t a bad thing. Forgot to include the Arkham series.

@@TheArkaneRealm Their recent games show a lack of care. Fallout 4 was decent to okay, 76 & redfall were bad & broken and Starfield was boring for 90% of the time & filled with empty space with nothing to do, but boring side quests & forgettable main story. None of these games are worth $60 - $70.

I totally understand! It’s not what ANYONE was expecting from Arkane Lyon, but it seems like they’re truly passionate about this project and they were actually the ones to pitch the idea for the game to Marvel and not the other way around! Lyon as of late has had a better track record than the Austin studio, so let’s see where this one ends up! I’m certain Dishonored 3 will be on the way as well, we might just have to wait a little longer for it. 😭

bethesda x arkane lyon are both owned by microsoft so if you put 2 & 2 together then that’ll just let you know that it’s gonna be a xbox/pc exclusive game.

@@mxxicvnphxnk that’s a very good point but if that were true, why not state it being an Xbox exclusive ? You wanna know why ? Because that fact that it’s not, would be the bigger story and PR nightmare which Microsoft can’t take. Just remember they wanna make money, so if Microsoft can take a marvel IP and sell it across not only Xbox and PC but the PS customers as well , and Microsoft will see profits directly from Sony. Which is a total win from a business and consumer standpoint. If it is exclusive, i don’t see it being for long.

My answer to this might shock people: I actually don’t think this will be an Xbox exclusive. I have no sort of logical explanation for WHY I feel this way, it’s really just a weird gut feeling.

Don’t get me wrong, my logical side tells me this is 100% going to be an Xbox exclusive and it would be a huge blow to Microsoft if they didn’t capitalize on this; But my gut is telling me something different if that makes sense?
