I really appreciate this video. The difficulty of accuracy at close range is good to know. Although he didn’t criticize the Arken, Mountains Mullets Merica had the same difficulty. Thank you for sharing. Your reasons for using your optics is very helpful.
A Brand that is under the radar that is terrific is Shepherd Scopes and they are superier too both Arken and Vortex .They have a 1-8 x 24 mm with a 30mm tube and 1-8 x 28 mm with a 34mm tube, both are illiumnated and have killer glass ! I own 1 of each and you have to catch them on sale for them to be priced where you want ! You will be shocked when you see their build and glass quality !
I have the Shepherd 1-8x mil (34mm), great glass disappointing 1x more like a 1.2 or 1.3 the Arken and Vortex are better even my cheapest ffp scope from PA has a better 1x
I'll never understand people complaning about reticles on FFP @ 1x. what the fuck are you using the reticle for at close range? At 1x they're basically a red dot.
Agree w OP. When on 1x it’s a Red dot scope. Put the ring on your target. You’re not using the BDC reticle. I think you’re not getting the point of the 1x reticle
That huge ring is good enough to get a hit, but not good enough to get an accurate hit. It just doesn’t get the job done if you need to be super accurate at short range. If you just need hits, it’s fine
Just a quick 2 cents. on SFP scopes, the reticle is only accurate on the scopes MAX magnificacion, not at 1x. For FFP it's correct at all magnification ranges.
Correct! I think it’s a trade off like anything else. For folks that want the full reticle at 1x they have to be ok with zooming in to 8x to use the BDC or hash marks. For folks that are ok with the tiny reticle at 1x they can get the benefit of using the BDC or hash marks at any magnification.
I see your point but it’s not really a red dot, it’s like a hollow 30 MOA circle with no reference in the middle. That’s my issue with it. Other LPVO reticles solve this problem that Arken did not.
Isn't it true that when using a 2nd focal plane, the markings are proportional. It's true what you said, the markings are good at the max magnification. For example: lets say first dot is 2mil @ 8X (max), but its also proportional, meaning @ 4x, the same mark would be 1mil. @ 2x - .5mil? I might be wrong??
The reticle grows in proportion to the zoom on a first focal plane scope. Second focal plane reticles remain the same exact size no matter the magnification, which is why the scope markings are only accurate at one zoom level, usually max zoom.
What higher quality LPVO are you considering? I have the Strike Eagle and its been decent, but considering a step up also. Looking at Razor or Vudu myself
I have been drooling over the nightforce NX8 1-8x, but that thing is pretty spendy so I haven't pulled the proverbial trigger yet. They just came out with this reticle in the NX8 which looks pretty nice www.nightforceoptics.com/technology/reticles/fc-dmx/ I am mostly looking to get away from BDC reticles and want the ability to dial in mils, which will help with getting on target faster in competitions.
I have an Arken EP-8, a Swampfox Arrowhead 1-10, and a SIG Tango MSR 1-10; they’re all really good but personally I really like the SIG, and I was previously a SIG hater due to the P320 issues, but this MSR 1-10 has ridiculous performance for the money. I have several Vortex optics but none of their LPVOs so I can’t speak on them, but I’m sure they’re great too. Needless to say, there are many great performers out there, it all comes down to what you prefer and what features you’re seeking
Not really using the BDC part of the reticle at anything under 300, just using the main center point of the reticle. For the Arken the whole ensemble is hard to see at 1x which is a pain, unless you’re ok just using the outer ring which is not precise at all
@@QualitySportsman well the circle of death is designed for cqb stuff and 25yards etc. Designed to be like a red dot. I can see what you mean in a way but it just works for me. I loved when eotech did it.
I’ve seen other reticles that solve this problem and completely eliminate the need for a secondary red dot. Granted that’s the vortex razor at 2k$ plus, but still, if they just had a bigger reference in the middle at 1x you would know where your bullet would hit, instead of needing another sight.
@@shaolinwarriormarkit was definitely confusing at first. I had to read over the instructions several times but once you get it i like it. I think it would have been better to have a small ranging marks to the bottom or top corner and just use hash marks but it's not bad once you understand it. For under 300 bux it's pretty good deal. I would say it's better than my 1-10 tango msr.
