I've been waiting for this, thank you so much for making this showcase video of savage! I hope that with this, people will finally change their opinion of savage and see that she's a perfectly functional operator and not an unusable operator in any way

This entire video series is more of a response to a certain other AK YTer (you know the one) calling her "Savagely bad Tier" TBH. There are units who are genuinely inferior to the point "if you have better, you're not going to use them 99% of the time" (popukar, adnachiel, most of the 1-2*), but Savage isn't one of them. EDIT: even on most CN sites or lists Savage is just considered Mediocre.
Idk man in my book if any operator or any unit in any game that heavily relied RNG factors to do the serving then I counted it as "bad" or unreliable, Savage was considered bad by the majority due to said majority's perception of how damage multiplier/addition/substraction/division counted, which is a little bit different in Arknights
Just a breakdown of the calculations in the beginning of the video. To fully understand what the results mean, please watch what the video has to say. Assume operator with attack x, boosted by warfarin (+0.9x attk), and operator has skill m3. If operator has multiplicative skill (like _savage's S1_ ): Damage output = (x + 0.9x)* _2.3_ = 4.37x Warfarin's buff gives a 4.37/ _2.3_ = 1.9 boost (90% boost) If operator has additive skill (like _silverash's S3_ ): Damage output = _(x + 2.0x)_ +0.9x = 3.9x Warfarin's buff gives a 3.9/ _3.0_ = 1.3 boost (30% boost)
Christ, I don’t know how did the community make Savage a bad unit when almost all pre-launch videos i watched have mentioned she’s neither good or bad. Although I do understand her “lacklustre-ness” one way or another. As you’ve said AoE Guards start to shine at E2 and that means at early game, many people don’t really see much usage for her, the contents atm not needing aoe guards doesn’t help Savage either. But at the point where you can freely E2 units, Savage can look “stale” compared to other AoE guards (Specter, Blaze, etc) since her role is more of a consistent DPS instead of having special shenanigans like others. Which I believe is mainly the reason why even CN players don’t invest in her too much bc there are much better or “cooler” options out there. Great video as always Dreamy!
That's the problem though. By the time you're considering E2'ing units, you will have options that are more flexible than savage. Want to go budget? Estelle gives you self-sustain for a 4* price. Willing to spend? Specter gives you both self-sustain and a unparalleled stall button. Savage is like... a C-tier end-game unit. By the time you get to end-game, you typically don't use C-tier units anymore. (unless you're pulling them out for their tiny niche, a la savage's buff synergy)
Steve Zirngible yea haha that’s what my point kinda is. Once you get to the point that you’d want to E2 units, which is big investment for 5* and above, Savage looks a bit boring compared to others. This by no means she’s a bad unit, just again, lacklustre compared to others. She does her job as a consistent DPS fine, and that’s it. As Dreamy said, she’s not trash, but rather an AoE guard that completes the job.
Depends on perspective tbh. The culture of where I grew up (Asian Country) bases everything on the holy bell curve. Basically even if someone or something performs completely functional, it's considered bad as long as there are better alternatives due to the bell curve. Basically it's something that functions like median.
Yeah. Savage can do her job and she does it well and without too much problem. Buuuut, some ops can also do that kind of job and do other things outside of it as well hence the reason why Savage is being ruled out as "bad" simply because she's not worth the investment for a "bland" character, if I may say so.
i said Exu is trashy against armored , she is not trash overall and what she can't do , some other snipers can do it easily i don't have top tier casters so i relly heavily on the team work of Provence/Skadi and Meteor(not Meteorite) , and this team can erase the most heavy armored tanks , even if they only deal Physical Damage (and they erase some beast like challenge mode skull shatterer easily)
I feel the same way about Specter. Even though her e2 is actually awesome. Still, ppl keep saying to not bother, coz there's other priorities. I dont care. I love my Yandere Shark girl.

If you like a character, you can bring him/her on every stage everytime you can. Search a situation that let him/her to shine, then use him/her no matter what it cost even if it looks stupid lol. Just like how I love Skadi, who's branded as the least impactful 6* in the game. I use her from cut through Big Bob brothers heavy armor, tanking the exploding spiders like a boss, to even defeat FrostNova at 4-10 with her as the main DPS when I actually can do it with my Exusiai better lol. The victory will taste way better when you get it with the charaters you like. Even if it's harder to get lol
Im sure Savage is happy that you defend and justified her ups and downs Dreamy :). Nothing is more saddening than people immediately trashing on someone without aruguement

To play devil's advocate, there is a significant difference not considered for the Amiya vs Ifrit/Eyja and Savage vs Specter/Estelle comparison Savage's Competition: Specter is a 5 star unit that's available in recruitment on common tags. Estelle is a 4 star recruit-only unit, but can be guaranteed with common tags. She is much cheaper to max than Savage. Amiya's Competition: Eyja is a 6 star unit that can't be recruited. Being a 6 star, she is significantly more difficult to max than Amiya. (also free Amiya potential!) Ifrit is a 6 star unit that can be recruited.... but only with the extremely rare top operator tag. And again, significantly more expensive than Amiya to max. And that is the difference. (Aside from waifu reasons) Investing in Savage is pointless, because her alternatives are commonly obtained and/or cheaper to upgrade. With Amiya it's the opposite. She's not as good as Eyja or Ifrit, but she's a good budget option. Savage does have a niche of being the best aoe guard to combo with buffers, but she pays for that with her lack of self sustain. (and lack of stall compared to specter)
I honestly started maxing both my deepcolor and savage when people started calling them trash / unworthy Nah, I don't need Silverash especially with my crappy gacha luck. They're both enough for me tbh. They really do their job properly and Dreamy, you proved my point even more
Makes me feel bad that I didn't really have a good look at her. Though I never agreed that she's trash or anything. Yet that part with comparing Amiya to Eyfafalalla bugs me. People should know 6 stars in this game are absolutely broken. Well some of them at least.

Just some thoughts on Savage or when the community says any operator is 'bad/unusable': I actually thinks that no operator in Arknights is bad or unusable. It's just that a lot of operator needs E2M3 for you to realise their full potential and that is actually a lot of resources and investments. So if you need an AoE guard, why not investing on Savage? She can do her job perfectly. Anyway nice video Dreamy!

Thanks a lot! Previously i requested a video proof of top Savage performance, and no one has it. So that is basically what is holding me from e2 her. She is good, she is cute, can be used differrently from other aoe guards, and she is limited. P.S. I want to thank you for such in-depth review! Now i know how to use her properly.

I came to the conclusion that Savage was bad completely on my own with no influence by the community. When I just started and was learning about all the different classes, I had very few 5+ star operators (Amiya, Savage, Zima, and Angelina). The guards I had were Melantha and Savage. Me, not knowing anything about subroles would automatically assume Savage > Melantha due to star rarity, so I really tried investing on Savage early. She just didn't perform, no survivability so she often died, doesn't block 3 enemies of a defender so she would leak, doesn't generate DP and fill gaps like my Zima (who also blocks 2 units), doesn't do damage fast enough like Jessica - a 4 star operator who wasn't AoE. She was actually higher leveled than any of those characters too at the time (still E0 though), but she wasn't pulling any weight. I just straight up concluded the entire guard class as a whole was bad, and my investment for my entire early to mid game went into defenders and medics, with sniper/caster backup. It wasn't until I was having trouble with CE-5 (LMD supply mission) that I took another look at guards, specifically Melantha. I had enough extra mats by that time to easily invest Melantha to E1 and man she just shredded those arts swordsmen. After that I realize that guards actually deal some pretty amazing DPS, it was just Savage that didn't have DPS. I took another look at her talents and saw basically EVERYTHING being focused into her attack stat and thought 'wow, Melantha is actually pretty broken.' - this to the point where Skadi's event came out and I was comparing the 6 star Skadi to 3 star Melantha and thinking to myself - If I get Skadi, do I really want to invest so many materials into her just to get a slight boost over Melantha damage? - I actually concluded it wasn't worth it as I had other priorities to focus on... (as a side note, dealing with the rat king later on made me realize that Melantha also has an absurdly high max HP - she got targeted over my 6* dedicated tanks!?) And after ALL that, I finally start hitting more E2s, now at this point I can finally start using AoE guards to be actually effective, but by this time I also have Spectre. My defenders at this point are tanky enough to survive basically almost anything (contingency contracts changed that view) so I started looking more on other utilities like healing or damage output rather than pure survival - and wouldn't you know, AoE guards at E2 can block the same number as a defender, are tanky enough to survive most small enemies as well, and deal some pretty decent damage and are AoE! Spectre quickly became my favourite go-to unit to block chokepoints over Cuora or Nearl. Basically, AoE guards are pretty bad before E2, and being a 5 star operator that performs worse in the imagined role than a 3 star operator, players can get pretty frustrated after sinking their limited materials into her in early game and not seeing any return on investment. They're quickly labelled as a bad class and forgotten until late game when you can start E2ing your operators, at which point they become good. But by the time you need AoE guards that you start looking at them again, players may already have better operators that do some amazing things like being immune to dying. Also to note, at this point in the game most players probably aren't even considering synergies yet - they just want to stat stick through a mission. Due to this, I believe that in actual fact Savage will only be seen as being useful by people within the community who see videos like this, as by default, Savage will be seen by new players as being useless due to the nature of AoE guards.
I already realize this after 3 days of playing Arknights is TCG in Tower Defense form All Operator is function normally as long as you make them in one set of synergy deck. Some meta deck are overpowered, but others are fine as well.
The big question with Savage is more "Why would I use her over Specter or Estelle?" Outside of Waifu purposes, it would because you don't have the other two. Estelle is cheaper to raise and has the added survivability, and Specter can tank bosses. By no means is Savage bad, just outclassed.
The real question is why would you use one or the other? A lot of strategies involve more than one or two guards. Ofc, not the kind of strategy any dude would use. But to call her "outclassed" is silly. The game doesnt ever require you to play with only the top operators for each class.
Specter has the Invincibility and Estelle has the Healing. Savage does have similar DPS to both, but no real advantage over the other two. If I didn't have Estelle or Specter, I would definitely invest in Savage. I would still call her outclassed, definitely useable. I like using Nightmare, and Deepcolor. So I can't really call anyone useless.
@@mrgarneau4895 what I mean is, the best use of savage is not when compared with specter or estelle, but when paired with them. Some of the strongest missions in CN server are cleared up with a strategy focused on mostly all guards.
@@mrgarneau4895 Estelle also can't be healed during her s2 so you're only dependant on her skill to kill enemies. Specter specialization is stalling. But she also has a self stun. Savage does comparable dps and doesn't have those pitfalls. It's not that she's outclassed. She's meant to do consistent dps rather than burst. And her constant dps is actually pretty decent.

Her s2 is crazy good at some situation I'd go for s1m3 or s2m3, s3 is big boost and ignore everything but damage feels lacking. (Amiya s3 have SHORT AF DURATION AND SLOW AF ATK SPEED) that really hinders her dps output. Kinda funny how hypergryph made such broken eyjafjalla s3 but amiya the RIHC leader and main fking heroine got trashed.
@@aneemofolding yeah. They should make her s3 really really strong at s3m3 that it is worth using it. I don't see the worth of using such skill if she won't be able to kill a boss or make it easier to destroy mobs. s2 with her talent seems really good since she only needs to kill 8-9 units to use the skill.
this is great and informative. learning how atk buff and atk boost % behaves on each operator is so useful. rather than just knowing to press the bigbrain button of S3 of so called OP operators
if they are objectively the worse out of all other option that makes them objectively bad not unusable but still not the optimal usage in a game where 2* is still usable i don;t think there is any unit that's unusable but investing in savage is just a feels bad man, unless she is a waifu or something there is something else u can always invest first but thats my opinion anyway. u don't need AoE DPS guard like savage anyway
This is the same community that at launch treated Ifrit as a trash 6 star. So it doesn’t surprise me other operators were given similar unfair treatment. I’m gunna give some of my own units a second look.
there are still people calling ifrit "bad in most map because of her range" even now, not realizing it's mostly her cost and not really her range that makes her unusable in many maps while her range just need a bit of adjustment
Conclusion: Melantha + Melantha + Melantha + Polymerization + armpits = Savage. And tbh with that "boss killer" role it doesn't matter if Savage is expensive, you usually have enough DP to deploy anything at that late game.

I admit that I was one of those who thought she was bad just because others said it, but you definitely made me change my mind, I'll invest in her when I have the ressources ! 6:39 would add that even without talent, Specter's 843 could still be less valuable than Savage's 778 because there may be no window for the stun that would just translate into a leak = stage loss.
okay, valley requiring 2 high ground tiles makes much more sense. when i read "more than two ranged grids" i thought "more than two" = 3+ and was VERY confused because... when are there 3 ranged tiles next to a ground tile? how likely would one get much use out of that ground tile by placing a melee operator in there who can only attack passing (or blocked by other operators) units.. for me the reason i stopped using savage (used her alot early on) was when i started bringings units to E1 and since guard wasn't available i ended up having vanguards/defenders instead and replaced her by completely ditching guards for a while. i really liked her and i really wanted to see what she can do, guess it's time to farm for her

If you have blaze, use blaze. If you don’t, savage will be more than up to the role of high dps aoe guard. Even if you have specter, you can see from the points in this video that there are situations where savage outperforms specter, or fills a niche better. In the immortal words of Tectone: “it doesn’t matter if other operators are better if you don’t have them...”
Savage isn't bad at all, just that she requires a bit too much investment imo. At the starting portions of the game, you wouldn't necessarily need an AOE guard, so even Specter isn't looked at too kindly. And since she needs a lot of investment (E2 and M3), most would rather invest their tiny amount of resources to other alternatives that are more effective or more flashy, and her expensive E2 materials doesn't help either. I think the main reason why the Savage stigma exists is because of how scarce sanity is, most ppl only invest the absolute minimum amount or resources they could, not including the waifu treatment, and because you don't really need 2 AOE guards in the same team, Specter simply became the more alluring choice for people to put resources in before moving on to the next class of unit that they don't have.

Imo she isn't bad, but as an AOE guard she competes with monsters, such as SiverAsh, Lappland, Ch'en (even though they aren't classified as AOE guards, they can do good AOE damage) are better than her. As a starting player you simply don't have resources to spare on niche units, so most of people will ignore her. Same as Nightmare, I guess. And your whole video stands on a point that she has great synergy with warfrain. But warfrain didn't even have her rate up yet, and by the time she appears in shop, most people will already have good guard. So while savage can dish respectable damage, is it really worth to use yout resources to build her? Her damage is like, by 10 points higher than Specter's, so I guess it's not worth raising her just because if that. Also it seems that people appreciate some unique niche that operator has, other than pure damage, unless it SilverAsh's type of damage. There is a reason people go ham on Lappland, she has unique niche that no other operators can do. While skadi is generally considered the worst 6* operator for f2p players to roll specifically for, because outside of stats she doesn't bring anything.
in this case AOE guards are operators that can hit 2-3 targets at the same time without the need of skill active. Silver and others you mentioned already out of the question. You compare her with Specter, Estelle etc. That's aoe guard
AOE guards don't compete with anyone except each other, and I'm starting to get really sick of people worshipping Lappland as if she invalidates every other non-SilverAsh Guard in the game, especially in a comment section to a video where she failed a mission under the same conditions that Spector and Savage finished.
@@ThePlagiariusReturns because her speciality isn't solo tanking a lane, she is used to silence enemies, like spiders, no one can do that. While savage provides just damage, and that's only when she is buffed by 5* medic that wasn't on rate up yet AND when you waste a shit ton resources on her. Lapland doesn't need m3 to need to be viable. It's okay to raise her, but pls don't say she is very good and on Lappland power lvl.
@@ThePlagiariusReturns The problem is that late game AoE guards have a unique wow factor that makes them a must pick or top tier. Lappland, despite not being an AoE guard, has one of the highest E2 rates on CN, just for that fucking 5 sec silence. Yes, Lappland invalidates the existence of ANY guard that doesn't have a unique function. Why should i pick a consistent dps Aoe guard when she gets stunned contantly, why choose blaze over spectre.
Savage has helped me through a lot, and without her help in the earlier and most of the later stages in chapters 1 to 4, i wouldn't be where I am now. Even if im not the best doctor or anything, at least I hit a good point in the game. I don't get why she is "savagely" bad because she isn't. Outclassed? Yeah, sure. But doesn't mean she's unusable. Also e2 art :)
I liked Savage at the beginning of the game when I only had a few Operators but I got really lucky and she just fell to obsurity underneath all the other operators I like using

Some 5* and most of 6* operators in this game are just so good at multi-role( E.g: Siege) or some broken talent (Eg: Lappland) that make operators who just good at their job being neglected. Another example is Amiya and Eyjafjalla. Doing just one role like Amiya will make it harder to strategize instead of just destroy everything with a button like Eyjafjalla
its still bad to use Amiya 5* vs the BIG FOUR Eyja 6*/Ifrit 6* to compare against Specter 5* vs Savage 5* imo. (Not a amiya fan btw) Video is great but Amiya is just a bad or pointless comparison. People are also saying hows shes bad because even from your video,you said it yourself that her without heavy investment is weak/mediocre. So people should definitely avoid investing in her until later on.
In conclusion: Just because you didn't get the exact unit you need from the gacha doesn't mean that it's all hopeless! Learn to utilize and master the tools EACH of them possess - and make them work!
I hope this change how everyone look at operator rarity & not too dependent on tier list, every operator have it pros & cons. yes you can "whale" all you want here, but there is 1 or 2 operators that can't be obtained from headhunt, so i suggest you also buy that enhancements package if you want to really whaling in arknights.
Would you say that if you wanted to raise Savage, you should wait till your account is in the mid-endgame stage where you can afford to pour large amounts of resources into her? Since she really underperforms at E1 and lower skill levels, it sounds like early-midgame players should not invest too much into her to maximise progress(maybe a bit for the beginning chapters)
I'm more or less a f2p arknights player and my headhunting is generally garbo (i failed getting silverash on his rateup for example) so free units that are usable I will gladly take over the community screaming about whaling for the op 6* units. *I can't afford them on a good day and I don't have the almost infinite disposable income to whale them to potential 6 unlike seemingly every youtuber that runs a moba channel*
love u and what u are doing, i getting always shit for spending resource in shirayuki, jessica, amiya, etc, but u know what? im fine with it, im just going to work around the units i like and hope i can clear everything, in case everything fails, i got a s2 SA ready to help me a little
I’m late to party but I didn’t even know she was big deal till someone looked over my shoulder and like “Omg omg omg you got Savage, your so lucky.” And I hadn’t leveled her just in my toss away characters and I looked her up, “She rare? People don’t have but I has?! Well kool then....” then I started using her and leveling up.
Dreamy you are doing God's work with these videos! It baffles me how much the community wants to keep this mindset that a unit is shit because there are better ones. If you want to keep it as a guideline or tier list then it's fine but to try so hard and force it to people who clearly enjoy using Savage is just gross.
I think everyone falls for Savage bait at the beginning, thinking that she can be useful in every situation. Personally, I regret what resources I wasted on her, but this video did slightly lighten my opinion of her. Still won't use her, though. Note: You also brought up something similar with Amiya. I feel the same about her as well. Dropped her for E2-ING Haze. Never looked back.
The reason why they think Savage is trash is because she is a free giveaway character. The "It is given to us for free, so it is not that good." mentality roots deep here. Savage is good. The only reason I didn't invest on her is because I got Silverash and Meteorite early to guard and deal AOE physical. I always tell new players I recruit to invest on her as a starter because she can hold her own til the end game.
I also think that people just considered "not worth investing right now" the same as "not worth investing EVER". I have the same exact feeling for certain operators. I have to suppress my bias in order to complete certain maps. Like it or not, unless you are spamming those prime for sanity refreshes, battle records and LMD are in constant short supply. So, sometimes investing resources on less "worthy" ops just disgust me, for lack of a word.
How convenient. My dream waifu team includes Ch'en, BP, Savage, Meteorite, Meteor and other operators with auto-trigger skills. Once I've built a team to farm E2 and M3 materials, I'll start working on my waifu team.
Savage is very nice early game Operator and thanks to this guide her potential is actually brought to late game as well. Also, Savage is thicc as fudge. More reason for me to love her.
Good job, I tend to mix and match myself when doing content, its not really fun to just use a bunch of 6 star operators. Besides there are some really fun things you can do with 4 and 5 stars. I enjoyed the video and in the future I want to give savage a spin, I wish she had potential ranks even if we couldn't level them up via dupes but tokens. I think when I look at her that is my only complaint.

Early in the game, I really liked Savage, she's my first 5* operator (not counting Amiya) and she's cute and I love her voice, but when I heard she's bad, I completely ditched her. *CRIES IN SAVAGE* I SHALL ATONE FOR MY SINS AND BUILD HER WITH S1M3! I like how Dreamy defending his waifus, I have Savage at E1 lv 30 and I do use her in stages that need to clean a lot of enemies, and bruh she's hot, I loved every operators except for Lava (which idk why, E1 her already tho) also I love using my brain cells so I rarely use six stars unless it's too hard for f2p strats, and again, Savage is savagely hot, 10/10 would smash.
I am e2 savage and amiya, never regret it at all, never lose them at squad even i have silverash, specter(to be compered), eyjafalla, and exu. And then i understand what the meaning of bad doctors. Judge before even use it properly
so , point is - if you have Savage and Specter, invest in operator you like more , coz Savage and Specter have same amount of dps ant give you +\- same result at maps . they 2 just AoE guards ,no more , no less. i get it . so i already have E2 Specter with her awesome cute skin , so i can continue ignor Savage , but she is not a bad operator . ty for info =\

No need to feels ashame dude. His videos about Azur Lane are quite accurate. So it's not weird to think that his analysis on Arknights are accurate too. Arknights have way more complex gameplay than Azur Lane after all.

10/10 would e2 and 200% trust for thighs. She's not "useless" for sure. Yes she gets out-shined by specter, but it does not mean she cannot get the job done in the current maps. Block 3 does mean she can die easily in certain situations, and her skill and talent are on the weaker side. That said, when she's leveled enough, using her does not feel too bad. Damnnnnnn, I just got Lappy and I remember seeing a demonstration about SK5 in Savage vid but I don't remember that she's the biggest loser between Savage, Lappy and Specter in that stage... Hmm, I still want to use her for that stage to get Truth
"There are no bad operators, only bad doctors." Good vid. If I have one thing to say though is that at the very least it feels like she underperforms in e0 and e1. Which is why most people just don't care for her much imo. So I would take the stance that yes she's fine to invest in after you got caught up on content at least for global where the avg level/power needed is only e1 30. That's where my main issue with Savage comes across. Yes, I will eventually e2 most if not all the ops but that's quite a way out. I wanted to play with other ops and getting them raised is still a lot of work and it takes time. So, that's where I don't feel okay saying sure invest in savage especially if someone just started out just due to how large of a commitment e2ing someone is. However. If she's waifu (with those thighs I see why for many) raise them and e2 first. Savage is good waifu material and if that's why you use her for sure do it obviously.
Nice video,at first i think savage is bad too because of someone said to me the she is unusable operator,but after i saw your vid it made me think again and tried to understand her potentials.Your vids help me a lot and it's much more better than others similiar guide out there,btw can i ask a vid about defender & medic part 2,there's some operator missing there
There no such thing as bad operators as every single one of them serves a role in the certain stages of your gameplay Usually the salt for salvage or any operator happens when ppl starts comparing Skills between operators and found out some operators are "similiar" to each other then say the weaker one as bad and not worth investing due to there a better version of her Idk how ppl make meta out of a tower defense game which didnt include arena,pvp or whatsoever 6 stars are just there to make the run more easier if u just wanna grind mats quickly N effective Salvage is fairy decent just like Hoshi which didnt have much outstanding gamebreaking skills but still done their job well In short,Get salvage skill 1 to lv7 and u got a fair decent aoe guard Great work as always dreamy,always put deeper analysis for operators(lol maybe someday u make a deep analysis for every operator existed) Also #TeamEffort,i give the thanks to everyone in the discord channel that make this video possible

i can see why this rumor spread, she is a late bloomer and no one was at e2-level yet. i leveled my savage and she was kinda bad. then i saw people saying she is bad and i just believed it, since it matched up with how she performed in my teams
