Arlo Techologies has some good news for system owners considering its Ultra 4K security camera. The company says it's committed to continue offering users the ability to remotely access video recordings without a monthly fee.
It is good news but it should have been in place prior to launch because the damage has been done sort of. I have the Arlo Pro system and using a USB drive to also record locally but I think Arlo should sort out the filing and naming better. I see no reason why when a clip happens at say 11/1/19 12:42 why the clip can't be called that rather than the random ones they save as now.
Just to be clear, are we talking about a free cloud storage, or just a cloud relay of the local videos? Because if it's the latter it's not gonna be as helpful in the circumstances where your base station get stolen or damaged. Sticking with Pro for now I guess.
Tony, right now, we are talking about relay of locally-stored video. Yes, your base station could get stolen and you'd lose footage, but that's the same for a DVR-based security system. If you want to guard against that, you're going to have to pay.
That reminds me.. my "1080p" Ring Pro videos, when saved, are 360p. What happens if I send it back in a big bag of 1080 lb bag of bu... *Your phone is having trouble...* Naw, it's you.
Arlo Pro 2- passed, after returning the original. Capture in lawyer- and PR-approved "1080", compression set to 60%: mp4 file from "1920." *barf* oops that's dirty... *returns pallet*
If you are concerned about a free storage option, I'd still advise waiting to see what it actually is rather than buying it based on comments now. That way you can be sure it's really useful to you.
I believe the SD card is inserted on the base, not in the camera so that makes it safe. The idea of not giving Ultra users unpaid cloud capability, it’s a downgrade though /:
