Please take note, though. The term "nakama" is used, but the subtitles say "friend." It doesn't just mean friend. It's more than friend. It's more than people you hang with. It's more than people you work with. It plays along the "found family" trope. In select subtitle groups, nakama was translated to "crewmate" - but when Luffy says it, one can feel how he means it. You're part of this crew. Not just friend. Crewmate. Perhaps you guys consider your gang/group as your nakama.
I don't really like the official translations, I watched this back in the day watching fan subs that were way superior. They would often provide cards with context for certain words as well as Japanese historical and cultural references to make it easier for the watcher to understand. Nakama was a big one and very important to the understanding of One Piece, which I don't think is captured very well in these translations.
Arlong is NOT as strong as the fishman warlord (Jimbei) XD It was a mistranslation. Arlong worked under him, but he doesn't have the power of a warlord... And because he was staying in the Grand Line longer, it doesn't mean he is soooo much stronger than Don Krieg. Krieg literally ran into Mihawk right when he entered the Grand Line, which is why he got wrecked. If Arlong was the one who met Mihawk, he wouldn't have had a chance either. It's kinda sad there are mistranslations that would bring confusion to the power scaling :'( but yeah I hope this clears up the confusion
I'm re-watching one piece with u guys hehe. Really appreciate these reactions so thank u so much for considering our rec. It is indeed one of the greatest series out there and really worth to watch!
Maybe you guys aren't thinking this but I just want to say how important I think it is to just enjoy one piece for what it is where ever you're up to. This is something I kinda struggled with watching it for quite a bit of the series, because even though I really enjoyed it I was always kinda focused on catching up and wanting to see the most recent things that were happening. Especially more so for Brig and McKay, I had also seen probably even more spoilers before watching the show, and that made me want to get up to those parts as I felt like I already knew what happened. But I promise you, my expectations and what I thought I knew was subverted nearly every time, context makes such a big difference in One Piece and the understanding you get as you progress through the show is such an intricated and wonderfully complex thing, arguably more so than any other show. So yeah, Brig and McKay especially, but all of you, enjoy it for what it is and what you're watching. You don't have to be caught up to see absolute peak, and looking back at the start of One Piece, there were so many amazing moments and arcs such as Arlong Park you're on now that I wish I appreciated more when I was watching them. Looking forward to seeing you guys enjoy this series more and more, as if yous are people that like to nerd out on shit and put all these connections and theories of your own together in shows like I do, one piece is the dream for that.
This! I totally agree with u even i binged it coz of spoilers and wanted to catch up. Ofc I still love one piece already coz it's amazing and it's my fav anime but i would have loved it even more if I watched it in parts and didn't think abt catching up. You know feel the journey more.
THIS THIS THIS. I wish I could pin this comment. This is also why I am against watching one pace. I feel like if they are just waiting for "hype" moments they are gonna be disappointed and bored.
@@estherqua-enoo1546I don't understand why that would make you be against watching One Pace. One Pace just cuts out filler and reduces dragged out moments like long reaction shots and long panning shots.
@MAT-wn5fr It also removes a lot of well animated sequences as well (action and non-action). This is why the anime sucks and you should read the Manga.
@@kappachino335The manga is the best experience, of course, but One Pace is a closer experience to it than the original anime. Most of those well animated sequences are completely unnecessary and/or make changes to powerscaling in fights. In Wano and Egghead, those nice animations are used to disguise the dogshit pacing.
This is when I began to love one piece. I’m very excited for you guys to finally be here. Honestly if you guys don’t love the show after this, there’s no reason to continue. There’s so much stuff just as good or better than this arc, but they all hit you in about the same way
I got hooked on one piece from the start coz I found it way different( in a good way) from other animes and it was a refreshing feeling. You feel like u are a part of their crew and watch them grow and adventure together filled with emotions and highs and lows really feels good. Plus the series also being critically good in plot, world building and mystery adds to the appeal of it.
Ussop deserves better. Hes the most NORMAL person. Thats why, put yourself in the situations ussop is in, and tell me u WOULDNT do something similar. The one piece world is terrifying
The Usopp hate always bothers me. Like I get having favorites but I don't get the the hate. I wish people could respect and understand all characters for who they are and what they offer on the crew. I hope they come around with Usopp.
I sometimes wonder if I'm in the minority with One Piece and having almost constant laughter every episode. It can be serious when it needs to be but early OP is generally so goofy, I find myself still having a blast with it all.
I'm laughing all the time throughout One Piece. I love these guys but find it a little bit hard to watch when they don't laugh. Haylo & Kiss are really good reactors who laugh with the show if that's what you're looking for!
I don't think we're in the minority overall, but possibly in the west. It's a little disappointing seeing people barely laugh at one piece since I think it's one of the main pillars of the show. imo it's just as strong a comedy as it is emotional. I laugh at least once almost every episode.
@@SiennamerdeinEvery story with fighting has powerscaling. Powerscaling isn't just complicated science and calculations. It's simply how one characters power relates to another person/thing. Powerscaling is part of the writing of a story. Mihawk being stronger than Zoro is powerscaling. Arlong being stronger than Don Krieg is powerscaling.
@@Siennamerdein i wish op fans weren't into powerscaling, that and agenda ruin any discussion every time a new chapter comes out. OP "fans" on twitter are insufferable.
Try asking everyone one by one about their thoughts about these episodes? I like how Carter often leads the conversation but I wish everyone collectively jumped in to share their opinions on what they just watched, negatives and positives
Mihawk is very strong like very strong. Jinbei also being a warload isn't as strong as mihawk and then if u talk abt arlong then he is nowhere close in both of their level. He was just part of Jinbei's crew and fought alongside him. I hope this isn't a spoiler.
It's definitely a spoiler, lol. I think only Jackson reads comments for OP, so the other boys shouldn't get spoiled, but you're spoiling others who are watching OP for the first time with the Geks.
Arlong park is the first pretty solid arc imo. Please just stick it out because, even tho it seems far, current one piece is top tier fiction. The more time you spend with these characters the less the overall plot of each arc starts to matter because the characters are what drive your enjoyment. There are one or 2 sleeper arcs but the vast majority of one piece, is amazing
You're looking at Usopp and the world with typical Shounen Battle Anime type of expectations. Which makes sense but by battle anime standards, Usopp should not exist. He's maybe a Yamcha at best but with a cowardly personality. In this world, Yamcha is the goat.
Also, Rope is actually super difficult to break at tense. If the rope is loose, you can gain inertia to break it. But it needs to be a little loose. Otherwise, you can only exert force from your elbows. Which isnt much.
@@MAT-wn5fr haha sorry but power scaling in OP is very diificult to do. And i don't know if it is spoiler or not but they should know that Arlong is not as strong as Jinbe and definitely not as Mihawk.
