I was watching the One Piece live action remake and couldn't stop thinking about the sawshark rostrum I had found a year or so ago. I have done some careful prepping of it so used the opportunity to do an update video on it.

Never would have guesed one piece refrance would be caming from fossil hunting channel. Hope you liked the live action adaptation of one piece. :D

2:31 that... i know it may not compare with some other pieces you've found, because you've found some doozies out there, but at least to me, this is the most important find you've shown. Indeed, all the gubins are rare. And it's a stunning specimen. What a find!!!

That really is incredible! A saw shark rostrum! Such a wild find!and it's really special that you found it and to be able to turn it into something that is so rarely ever found. The cartilage fossilized and that is so rare! You really have been having great luck with these rare finds! Wow! Don't stop now! Thanks Morne!

Have you thought about a mixed-prep? Like uncovering the main focus...then supporting other pieces like they do in a museum with wire ect

This is very cool, do you have plans to continue work on the rostrum fossil? Chance to get another CT after more prep to see how much is in there?

I'll prep it some more, the current CT scan is enough to see what else is in there, it's nice and clear

What an awesome fossil. I was wondering how you get your fossils scanned so easily. Is it just local connections? The museum I volunteer with in the US can’t handle get anything CT scanned.

Lower mandible of a juvenile cetacean perhaps something akin to a sperm whale. You have the most amazingly cool hobby/past time.

You are so lucky to have a place to find so many fossils. I would be having a blast looking for them if I lived around there. I found some fern fossils by me that are in sandstone they are hard to get out without breaking though. And the coal mines dig up a lot of shells coral and stuff like that around here as well.

@@MamlamboFossils it's hard finding any actual animals around here. I did find two trilobites though. There's more ice age animals than anything dont think we have any dinosaur bones sadly. Luckily I have found a horse tooth a piece of mammoth tusk and a bison leg bone though.

Hey mate! Im just getting into fossil preparation and have a dremel at the moment. Would love to work on some fossils similar to what you find. Close to me is just brittle shale fish fossils. Would you be willing to sell a unprepared crab fossil nodule? If so how much would something like that run me? Keep up the good work love the channel!

Sorry, I don't send fossils out of New Zealand. Are you using the dremel engraver? The rotary tool doesn't work for fossil prep but the Dremel 290 does work.

@@MamlamboFossils No worries it was worth asking. I am using a dremel 920 engraver. I got the 3 piece set of tips from zoicpaleotech and they work like a charm. Currently working on a needle fish preserved in shale.

That's a pretty spectacular fossil, man! Such a rare specimen too! I remember watching the video in which you found this - it was a really confounding fossil back then. Really cool that you've made such progress with it since that time. It does look like it'll be very difficult to prep, though, it being stuck in such hard rock and the cartilage being cracked like that... That is, I presume you'll continue working on it, right? Anyway, keep up the good work!

I'm going to keep working on it, I want to expose at least 1 of the large teeth 😁It's very tricky as I want to preserve any denticles I come across as well

Yeah, I can imagine. Would it work to cover the cracks between the denticles with wax, I wonder? Or would the acid simply cut out the area underneath in that case?

I will carry on with prepping the sawshark, it's a very slow and delicate process though - it has to be done under a microscope
