It's not as punchy because from the air, ground battles are a lot quieter. You can't hear gunshots. You really just observe from the sky. It's not like fighting on the ground.

Sounds a lot like Bill Brown's work. He did the music for a lot of old school Clancy games and Command and Conquer Generals

I imagine a scene where NATO gets ambushed by OPFOR during some transportation event and NATO are pinned and contact the ship for support and shows jets being prepared for take-off at 1:28 . After that, NATO forces are trying their best to hold off the OPFOR forces from overtaking them. Until 2:27, jets emerge from the clouds, releasing a bullet storm over the OPFOR's location..

Listening to this after listening to Top Gun's soundtrack, I realize that the bell at the start and the lower tone of the song is in fact a reference.

Could this have been the Jets remix for This Is War? I heard the main riff in there.
