I was out on the woodland trail today & I'd been hearing a lot of dry leaf action, but figured it was probably a bunch of squirrels or maybe even a turkey foraging in the dry leaves. I had just stood up from looking at some plants and noticed the leaf rustling was approaching me. Wasn't a squirrel or turkey...it was this critter. No weapon on hand of course, so I just stood there & recorded it's approach. I can't believe it didn't see me or smell the Deep Woods Off I had hosed myself with...darn thing got so close I thought I wouldn't be able to film it anymore (I had a strong lens mounted on the camera that doesn't like close-ups). I stomped the ground several times & it was pretty much oblivious of my presence. I eventually shut the camera off & found a big rock. I sure wish I'd been toting the tripod, because when I nailed that critter with the rock, it did what armadillos do when you scare them. It jumped...straight up in the air. I was laughing my butt off. It ran a couple of feet, spun around to look. I could just imagine it thinking WTF was that??? I can see it now...I need to start toting a tripod & maybe a firearm..
