Only in America will you find this sort of commemorative rememberance, displaying how much the people of the US appreciate what their boys and girls in the armed services give to their country. I was so fortunate a few years ago as to visit relations who had emmigrated to the US from the UK in North Carolina. Whilst there, I met with many ex servicemen and women, when I visited USS N Carolina at Wilmington and USS Yorktown at Patriot Point. The pristine condition that both of these ships were in, reflected the pride and reverance you maintain in your history, and the considerable hard work put in 24/7/365 by ex crew members and enthusiasts each year. We here in the UK just scrap our old ships for the cash, leaving nothing beind but photographs, use them for target practice or simply sink them for diving on. There is very little pride in this country left any more, other than in the Mary Rose (half a wooden hull) Victory, Warrior and Cutty Sark., maybe a couple more around the country, but certainly not the wealth of ships the US has retained for future generations. Well Done America!!!!
Child of a career Air Force officer, cousin of a soldier who died in Vietnam , I cry for their memories. I have worn a bracelet in memory of Captain William Kinkade since September 9, 1968. The gone are not forgotten.

I am a New Zealander living in Virginia. I would like to thank all those men who came from these shores, USA, to our New Zealand to help guard our country in the South Pacific during WW2. When all our men were away fighting in Europe. I was preschooler at the time, but I remember with thanks, while knowing my uncles were all away in Europe. I remember the end of the WW2 as if it was yesterday. THANK YOU to all the men who gave me the freedom to live my life. Blessings!

I have my dad who is a Marine Corps veteran, I’m his 10 year old son. After a few years ago when he told me about his service, I decided I wanted to serve my country. That’s why as of today, I swear when I turn 18, I’m enlisting in the U.S Marines.
My dad was WWII NAVY SEABEES , (and hubby army vietnam) This song brings tears to my eyes whenever they start the NAVY song. Even when I played the trumpet for 20 years in my local community band. Pride playing my dad's trumpet, and as I got older, choking up when I got to that section after he had passed on. 10 years ago. I no longer play, but this still moves me. Thank you.

Day is done, gone the sun, from the Lakes from the hills from the sky, all is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Fading light, Dims the sight, And a star Gems the sky Gleaming bright, From afar, Drawing nigh, Falls the night. Thanks and praise, For our days, Neath the sun, Neath the stars, Neath the sky, As we go, This we know, God is nigh."
