We drove from Yerevan to Yeghegnadzor on International Women's Day. The scenery was spectacular even for the beginning of Spring.
Our Indian granddaughter Sushma accompanied Mrs Mitch and I, which made the trip all the more fun for us. We called in to see our friends Len and Armine at their Areni Lodge, which we featured in our previous video:
• ARMENIAN LIFE: Areni L...
Areni Lodge website:
arenilodge.com
Then we continued on to Yeghegnadzor and were surprised by the beauty of the town surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Sushma and I then went on a little discovery walk and found some lovely parks and buildings, including an amazing university building, which hasn't been functioning as a proper university for more than 5 years! Something really needs to be done about that in the future, because higher education facilities are essential in the regions for the future of Armenia.

Thank you so much for the video. I was born and raised in Yeghegnadzor till I was 16. I am 51 now and I live in Los Angeles more than 25 years. I miss my hometown every day

@mikesmith5830...Thanks for your comment, Mike. Yes, Yeghegnadzor's a lovely place...maybe you should consider coming back and help the community in some way. Alternative energy projects or an IT centre might be something to consider, if you're interested. We only have one life, so I believe we must use it to help our fellow man in whatever way we can. It's always tough to leave family behind and maybe coming to live here is not the solution, but you can always help remotely if you so desire. You can email me by clicking on "About" on our channel page if you'd like a chat. God bless you and your family🙏

You can also visit the Magellan cave, which is the second largest cave in Armenia and the first excursion cave, located at the beginning of the gorge leading to Noravank (800m).

So interesting! It looks like a mini city. I found myself googling Yeghegnadzor… a population of 8000, 123 km from Yerevan. Elevation of 1200 metres, great climate…and no doubt, full of great Armenian people. My next road trip will be to Yeghegnadzor. ( yes, I’m in Yerevan and although it’s a great city one needs to venture out to see the real Armrnia ).Thanks Mitch!

Regarding the concrete “gentleman”, like Mrs. Mitch have already explained, it was the statue of Anastas Mikoyan, a prominent Communist party activist of the Stalin, and Khrushchev era. He happened to be a long-term survivor due to his, let’s call it, political flexibility. There is even a funny joke, an “anecdote” about his exceptional surviving skills. Once members or the Soviet Political Bureau have been summoned to an urgent meeting. It was a very rainy weather, and everyone was arriving soaking wet. Except Mikoyan, who appeared to be perfectly dry. The astonished colleagues asked him, how he managed to keep his clothes dry in such heavy rain. “I just dodged between the droplets”, answered Mikoyan.

What subjects did they teach before closure? Where did the lecturers go? Would there be any students to enter at a university entering level?
