Hello RU-vid Friends! In today's video I am sharing how I transformed my armoire by layering paint.
I did not film a super detailed step by step for this particular project. I do have other videos that show in detail how I do my paint finishes. However, the second portion of the video explains tips and tricks on how to practice and get this very same look, but on sample pieces of wood so you can perfect your paint finish before you tackle a large piece of furniture or your cabinetry, such as the kitchen and bathroom!
I hope you enjoy this video and it inspires you to recreate furniture pieces and cabinetry in your home for a fresh new look without spending lots of your hard earned money. Paint can transform almost anything.
Please give me a "Like" if you enjoyed this video or you found it helpful is some way. Share it with friends and family on social media. I would love to hear from you in the comment section below! And I would also be tickled if you subscribed to my channel and join our RU-vid family. There are so many amazing people who watch and comment. I am blessed and honored to have so much support on my channel, so THANK YOU so much!
I wish you all the best! See you in the next video!
Xoxoxo,
Deborah

You inspire me more than I can say. I have been toying with the idea of painting our kitchen cabinets but am a little overwhelmed at the concept. Your idea of a practice piece is giving me the kick in my keester that I need. I can buy a cabinet door at the Restore and practice removing the finish, chalk painting, picking colors etc. before I begin work on our cabinets. GENIUS!! That way I won't feel so nervous. Practice makes perfect, after all ;) Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Thank you for all your tips on the distressing very helpful! I have a very old mantle that my husband painted white and I wanted it distressed because all of my things are rustic so I will be getting some of the darker glaze for sure for all the ornate details on it! It has the mirror with a top shelf over it to! Love the older pieces.♥️
@thepaintedsouth
@thepaintedsouth 3 года назад
That sounds beautiful, Marilyn! I have the same issue when I paint anything bright white. It just clashes with everything else in my house. I really like the Rustoleum glaze in Java Brown, but it can make white look dirty sometimes. You can water it down and add a little paint if you need to to tone the color. Best wishes! Xoxoxo

Very nice!!! The armoire turned out beautifully! I used Anne Sloan Paris grey once on an old bed. I practiced using the dark wax. I never liked the way mine turned out. Mine looked dirty. lol I just left the Paris Grey. I have wondered if I would have better luck with a glaze. I do like the darker color in the groves. I love watching you and yours always turns out beautifully. Thanks for all your wonderful tips.
@thepaintedsouth
@thepaintedsouth 3 года назад
Thank you Benita! I love Annie Sloan's paints. They are such great quality. Dark wax can definitely make things look dirty. Did you coat it with clear first? That usually allows you to control the dark wax when it is applied over clear. I like glazes because they can be thinned down and toned with paint and are easier to work with. I hope you have an wonderful week! Xoxoxo

But, I know you go ALL OUT, which I love, so you need a lot of time. Plus, you DIY a lot of you decorations and that takes time as well. We got ripped off for $1k by the last deck guy so we'll have to take him to court, if we even bother. 🤦‍♀️ So, my husband is building it and almost cut the tip of his finger off with a saw. He doesn't even know how it happened. It was so fast. A nice surprise trip to the ER, none the less. But, he is ok and the deck is looking great! He is a perfectionist. Anyway, best wishes to you. I have an ornate armoire sitting in my garage that I’ve been wanting to paint with some kind of technique. Here in the Texas Hill Country it is so dusty and my dark wood bedroom set shows dust so bad. My experiment was supposed to be the armoire. Duh! Still sitting there after 2 years. I’m scared to touch it. My goal was to use it to test paint on since we weren’t using it at the moment. Eventually I wanted to repaint my whole bedroom set to match the armoire. Hopefully a color that would show dust a little less. What color would work? I thought about a pale gray or a beige with darker glaze or something in all the crevices.
@thepaintedsouth
@thepaintedsouth 3 года назад
Hi Diane! Happy Thanksgiving! An ornate armoire is the PEFECT piece to use this layering technique. Any color with glaze will help hide dust. I have some tables I painted layers in shades of gray (not 50... lol), then distressed them, used java brown glaze and they look great and match anything. The layering, distressing, glaze and topcoat work on anything with any color combo. Creamy, off white looks great also. I try to stay away from super bright whites, but that's just my preference. I hope your project turns out great! Go for it! Xoxoxo, Deborah

@@thepaintedsouth Hi Debra, I don’t know the spelling of you’re name? My house was built in 1983 and has beautiful formal paneling in the living room and 3 tiered fireplace, very different but beautiful! The den has corner to corner bulk ceiling beams, I/2 wall paneling clear thru den, about 18x22, kitchen and it goes thru to a 6’ w 12’ hall, all 1/2 paneling into even the dining room and entry hall! ALOT of 1/2 paneling in traditional color, not honey a little richer! I wanted to do the treatment you did on one of you’re blocks with the light gray over the traditional color. I think I want to put a med. glaze not to heavy.
