It quite crazy how Verdict day has aged quite well for the most part, i hope From Software can make a collection of the previous AC games till Verdict Day for modern consoles and PC
@@ethanspaziani1070 i just downloaded this on the xenia emulator. fkin works wonders with uncapped fps too. actually blew my mind how good this emulator is i downloaded it for gears of war 1-judgement originally today, but i said fuck it and tried all the roms for xbox 360.
The one thing I prefer about ACV is that the sense of scale is much easier to understand. So much of AC6 is set in interiors with enough volume to fit entire cities inside them, or under or inside a metal sky of incomprehensible dimensions, yet it doesn't really appear as such unless you are actively looking for it.
Yeah I did actually enjoy 5s comparatively tiny Urban warfare ACs. They felt grounded and real, also backed by that grimy aesthetic, like you made a Transformers figurine for an M1 Abrams
AC6's aesthetics draw heavily from the third gen games. AC3 is set pretty much entirely in an enormous underground city, so the scale is just bonkers confusing, because you'll descend down, like a vertical access tunnel, but if you consciously think about the scale, you realize it's as wide as a football field, and like, many kilometers tall. Much larger than any interior space that exists in real life. It's also very apparent that they were heavily inspired by the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel in Saitama, as very similar structures show up in nearly all of the games. These things are absolutely stupid big internal spaces, which "could fit the Statue of Liberty inside of them." If you look up pictures of people standing in them, they just don't make any sense in scale, the pillars are just so fucking large. But if you're the size of an AC? It feels like a parking garage. They must have people who work at Fromsoft who have degrees in architecture, because they regularly draw from real life famous buildings and infrastructure, and they are extremely precise about scale, even when doing so is potentially confusing for the player.
@@dunzek943 kinna untrue, 5 was intentionally had the graphics downgraded for multiplayer focus, but in terms of advancement, 5 is more in-depth than 6 6 is kinna a more simplified version of 5 so to appeal newcomers into the series Owo -aided melee attacks, but cant dual wield melee weapons -no additional functions on cores other than EN regulation -lack of gun arms(to make the tank legs look more tank-like instead of a tank centaur) -transformable weapon arms that give the option of using both normal guns and arm weapons -no mobility and scan jammers -no weapons tuning -no sniper weapons -everyone was conveniently equated as augmented humans, and erased the rule how normal pilots use cannon type back weapons (kinna weird freud has no augmentation and still performs like he has humanplus) -reverse joints have no rapid fire stabilizer functions anymore -tetrapods have no high recoil absorber functions anymore -no autocannons or has only 1 rapid firing back/shoulder weapons (cept for the pulse cannon) -dont get me started on overed weapons. it's basically a miniaturized version of rusty firing the rail cannon in the ice worm mission. but now they are kinna downgraded into weaker incarnates in 6 'w'
Hard to really convey it properly but AC5 is the last game you see it done. But one thing I really like about old gen games is how they try and fit the UI into the world (3D elements moving with the camera). 5 lost the reticle (for better or for worse) but I really like how overall they feel like vehicle HUDs made to fit in a game rather than UI made to look sci-fi to fit in with the vehicles
One thing I wish AC6 kept was the wall jumping. In this video it's just used to climb straight up, but the majority of the time in ACV and VD you'll be using it to kick away from walls and go fast, especially if you're using reverse joints.
Ok, well despite being much more colorful the UI seen in AC5, I believe that the more simplistic version used in AC6 is more comfortable to see, just because doesn´t take as much portion of the screen and doesn´t distract as much.
The difference is that AC5's is so big because you'll only shoot at whatever is inside that ring on your screen. AC6 will have you shoot at anywhere on your screen so long as it's close enough
Not gonna lie, I prefer the more colorful, chunky, sorta-gritty UI of AC5/VD and some of the older pre-4/FA titles. 6's isn't terrible but it just feels way too minimalistic, especially for AC and mech games in general. And honestly, even FA's HUD was better since it had an actual radar/motion-tracker, instead of 6's nearly-worthless compass thingy at the bottom of the screen.
They should have 100% used the radar from 4th gen in ac6, that little red dot at the bottom is rubbish, especially when you have so many particle effects going off on your screen, you're not keeping track of that.
I do miss some things they did in verdict day. The scan mode was cool to see enemy players hp and stats but honestly I hated having to switch to it to restore EN. I also miss the pre mission plan maker thing and the after mission movement footage. It reminded me of ace combat. UNACS were a cool idea but a nightmare to actually set up. Honestly i love AC6's story but the pvp feels lacking compared to ACVD.
Totally agree the pvp and co-op was great. I had a lot of fun doing World Bosses. I hope they don’t close down Verdict Day’s servers because I plan on playing more of it after I finish AC6.
i might be the minority in this but somthing about verdict day felt so right for the series, ur not a expermintal super weapon, ur a dude in a robot in a god damn war. i will miss VD but im glad some things did stay, da kick.
what I really liked in 5th gen was the central crosshair UI it has all the info you need the same can not be said in AC6 being hybrid 5th gen and 4th gen UI
i do hope peeps noticed that there are no back weapons on 5 as they are integrated inside the shoulders Owo hence the bulkier shoulder design with actual function on 5, 6 has some bulky shoulders but some of them doesnt seem to be armor in nature leg shields adds def when using deployable weapons such as cannons, i think there are no humanplus in 5 hence they dont fire the cannons like they do on 6. wierdly enough freud is also said to have no augmentation ,yet he is able to fire his cannon without deploying
That's how it was in all AC games before 6 In AC6 turning is instant to wherever you camera faces That doesn't seem super important but it's the main reason AC6's PvP is so bad In the past all ACs were heavily balanced around how fast you can turn, with tanks having the slowest turn speed and light bipeds having the fastest, and because there was no hard lock-on, you had to manually keep track of your enemy by watching your radar and listening for sounds if they get behind you You couldn't just whip around instantly like in AC6 unless it was AC4 which had inbuilt quick turn or you used the turn booster shoulder part in AC3
Armored core in a nutshell according to another commenter: "70% of the time spent in the garage 20% having debt 10% gameplay" Experimenting, making your ideal death machines are parts of why the Armored core series is so great, but if that isn't what you are looking for then you can just go play Armored core 4, and Armored core For answer if you want that super robot vibe from Zone of the enders.
Thank you. Another question if anyone can entertain the thought, story wise and characterization. how does this stack with the other AC, Ace Combat series? (The start as a scrub, then grow into a legend, with copious amount of npcs and enemies gushing over the player character)
@@tarouyamada2686pretty shallow until you delve into it deeper yourself The story could be deep but since the gameplay is the main part they make the story very simple on the surface
The HUD give you all the Details you need to see in the fight ammo counts Warning when the attack both from the sound and the direction. The attack is coming with red sign. Scan mode when your enemies is hiding Stagger bar for you to see are you close to getting stun or not if you are about to get stun you need to take evasive action . The energy bar to keep track of how much movement you can do before the energy recover. Some weapons can overheat you cannot just abuse it. Energy weapons and machingun will over heat. If you just keep pressing the button without care. The lock on tell you the enemies health bar and stagger bar. So you know when the right time for you to use your big damage weapons. The lock on give you a specific number of missiles that will chase the targets if you shoot the missiles. Both for multi lock and single lock targets. On the bottom there are bars with red dots that you can see which enemies are in which direction without using maps. There are more. But I will stop with just that. They don't just give you the HUD so you can keep ignoring it. This is a mech game. You are playing as a pilot not transformer. It is like buying a fighting game but you don't want to learn any combo. So you expect the game to give you options to use all the combos from the game with only two buttons. Or the more obvious example you buy Titanfall 2 game and you complain the HUD when you play as a titan. When the Elden ring game comes out people talk shit about the lack of HUD. But ignore the reason why they don't add complicated HUD. Because the elden ring is medieval dark fantasy game. So they down want you to take out of immersion with all these complicated HuD. But when AC6 give you the HUD not even complicated one it is the simplest version of Armored core HUD. People start complaining too If you think the HUD is complicated. I recommend you to not play future armored core game that form soft releases. I am not angry at you. The old gen AC HUD is more complicated than this. You need to play the game like you are piloting a fighter jet. This AC6 version is like the casual version so they can get more fan to like it. And they will add the some old mechanics and new mechanics one by one to make the game feel like you are piloting a Robot. When I first see the HUD I don't like it. Because it is too simple. I need to see all the numbers that I need to know how my ACs is performing in the fight..but after playing 85 hours of AC6 I can say I like it because yes it got simple but it still displays the important things that you need to aware in the fight.
no, AC has always have the normal proportion which you call 'sleek and futuristic', AC 4 and 5 were the weird looking ones that looks like a gorilla which pushes away some older fans. glad that they return to the roots
@@stevebastion679It was AC5 that were the gorillas, AC4 were their own designs and leaned very extremely heavily into the sleek and futuristic, more than Old Gen did.
People really do like complaining huh What do people expect this is a cross gen game on older console and that a good thing It better to have a game running good for 70% of gamer rather than 10% of gamer
Point value inflation retained from AC4. In AC4 you play a NEXT, the "next" generation of AC thus It need to feel stronger, faster etc. Bigger numbers help sell that idea. But come AC5 and despite being much less advanced machines they retained the higher numbers from AC4 for gameplay.
@joeyohannes1130 ACFA, the sequel to AC4, and by a mile. Can hit burst speeds of up to Mach 3, have perpetual energy shields of PHYSICAL radiation, and can become self recharging tactical nukes of said radiation, that's not even talking about weapons. Not much is keeping up with, living, or much less hurting an ACFA AC. Hell a barely functional scrap built 4th Gen AC is literally final boss material in ACVD.
Looks like it doesn't seem to have translated the heavy weight feeling, it looks like the mech is very loose and weightless. Weird, since from soft tend to get right that heavy feeling in the attacks or the movement when needed to.
I've played the game and I don't agree with your assessment. Definitely feels heavy weight. Feels fast too, but heavy weight is definitely still obvious. The mech is not floaty and slows down pretty quick when you're not boosting or anything.
Artistically speaking and animation wise, Verdict Day still leagues above Fires of Rubicon. If we gonna count polygons it's obvious that Fires of Rubicon will win, since the match would be "PS3 vs PS5". Still, I'm just happy that the series got attention again and From Software was willing enough to bring it back ten (10) years later! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAa ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ditching "scan mode" was the right call. We did NOT need a "mode" which disabled weapons and spoke to us every time we toggled it. That shit got old in like, ten seconds. Cleaning up the UI was also the right call. It seems like some game devs are just addicted to cluttered screens, so I'm glad FS decided to dial that back and simplify it. Some things still irk me, but overall it's better. The ONLY good thing from ACV, which they kept, was the weapon bays. Being able to just bring more hand weapons is a nice option. It's often a tradeoff of sustainability versus burst, but that's a fair choice. emphasis on "choice."
For AC6, I agree simplifying the game the right call. AC6 needed to bring in a new crowd so making the game as simple as possible for an AC game is the way to go to ease people into the series. However, I loved the scan mode because it added another degree of gameplay. When used correctly, it allowed me to solo eliminate entire player teams. Being able to separate them and pick them off one by one. Not only that, but it also made being an operator an absolute game changer for a team. A team would steamroll the opposing team if they had a good operator. In saying that, the system wasn't perfect. I will agree they probably could remove the "scan mode" but keep the drones. But on the other hand, scan mode gave ACV that extra bit of sim feeling. A low powered energy mode for traversal. At the least, I don't think scan mode should be in any of the mainline titles, but I would like it to make some sort of comeback in an spinoff or sequel title.
@@christopherlyndsay8611 well its 2023 you cant sell a triple A Flagship clunky games for that price. The Narative & Story are average, not much improvement since AC1. but the content is far less then what AC5 gave. Multiplayer boss fight, Fotress Guild War and many more.
@@urzirwanomar1962 nah the narrative is a huge step up imo. There are plenty of moral quandaries which feed directly into the choices the player makes, without delving into NG+. The only part of AC6 that is lacklustre is the presentation of multiplayer.
@@christopherlyndsay8611 true, but the addition to the storyline is so small I wouldnt consider it big changes. But the Multiplayer its definately a downgrade from AC5, I was expecting AC6 to bring all the features and even introduce more. Kinda sad on that part but I hope they add more content. I also like the part where in AC5 you can build your own AI, that stuff was way ahead of its time.
Comparing the Graphics from Armored Core 4 to Armored Core 5 is pretty clear and day and honestly AC5 is just a huge step in graphics. (Though its performance sort of sucked) …Yeah, Armored Core 4 didn't really have good graphics, even for its time. But For Answer is still the best Armored Core Game for a reason.
Im hoping that they either do dlc in the future or a completdly new game where we can import our data like in the past. The way I see it this is the first 6th generation game and I think we are likely to get an expansion game hopefully.
@@primeEmu16 dlc is guaranteed. Because of one bandai interview they say even though it is not nearly as successful elden ring they still satisfied with the sales numbers. And they would love to make new AC games in the future. Also modders find some codes in the files that is label as dlc. They are planning to make the Dlc but after the elden ring dlc and new magic focus games.
Ac5 always looked bad to me. Wall jumping and glideing... no true flight, really? That and the ACs just looked really ugly here. All looked like cookie cutter MTs. They all looked more or less the same. Just blocky and un inspierd buldozers with guns
ACV was honestly so awful. Im so glad they didnt do the approach of small tactical team based game play. AC4 was such a rush and to go from that to 5 actually made me stop playing. AC6 is such a slamdunk for fromsoft. Easily my fav game they have made thus far.
5 is literally faster and more of a 'rush' than 6 what are you talking about? only people who think 5 is slower never learned movement and so stayed glued to the ground forever instead of ricocheting around like a cocained up pinball like you're supposed to
UI is downgrade. I wrote this in steam review before watching this video. I have not played any AC game before. And this proves my point about aiming. The circle is much more visible in AC5, it is not centered, and AC not obstructing enemies while in fight. I did 3 playthroughs, only S ranks left. And i do not reccoment to spend 60$ on this, when there are other games. But if you never played Mecha game before, buy it.
@@igodreamer7096 there none like AC. That is why it is popular among hardcore gamers. I like the game, but sometimes game should get criticism for some small nuances. I like MonsterHunter game, but it disgusts me with its following classic UI without adequate innovation. I have a thought that all japanese game developers stick to the formula that succeed without adding big improvements. UI? Multiplayer connection? Etc. right now, the review score is growing from 83 to 86%. It is the influence of reviewers. Mecha games were not popular the same way as fighting games. Titanfall 2 have an igundamnteresting campaign and interaction with Ai. But the game was a flop because EA wanted to make p2w multiplayer. and i dislike mech that do not look like classic style mecha from anime.
The circle is far too visible to the point where it detracts and distracts from your surrounding and enemies in ACV imo. Plus in AC6, your mech never obstructs view of enemies if you’re moving fast around them, which you will be doing pretty much all of the time.
Huh? Consoles? You mean the same ps5 running horizon forbidden west at 60 fps? This is not the fault of consoles . Fromsoft isnt exactly known for next gen graphics . They do however have great art direction.
