I played this on NG+ full knowing Walter was the final boss--but the deeper context evaded me. So when i finally went up against Walter, I really felt sad thay Walter was not truly fighting of his own violition here. What truly broke me was "Look at you 621...You've found... a friend"
Actually that ending was more positive than the other one. He was brainwashed by Arquebus and he was still convinced that burning the Coral had to be done, but finally he put 621's life above all that. To him, 621 has become like a child to him that he began to love unconditionally. And when he found out that 621 made its own choices and found a friend (Ayre), he finds closure and let go of his mission.
I've heard people say that Ayre is the only one who truly cares for Raven, but I feel like this ending disproves that. Hearing the last line from Walter only makes me happier that I carried out his will in the first ending.
For me, the lines that broke me were "You earned all the credits. Undo the surgery.. Be normal again." He really was looking out for you from the start. :(
Ayre just wants to live. Wants to save Rubicon and her brothers and sisters to live. She doesn't wanna see Raven and Walter killing eachother like this.
It would make sense with him pointing the gun and then lowering it as well, as if he’s fighting whatever they did to him cause he’s clearly not in a right state of mind
"did not have the best loadout for this fight" Genuinely thank u for this. I'd rather weaken my build but give him an honorable fight than have a cheese build to kill him in
@@xviii5780 Yeah, I'm here for a similar reason - dual gatling + dual stun needles chunked him so hard that he never healed and was dead during his opening dialogue. It happened so fast that I was thinking there was surely a second phase and then it just ended... It's a very sad moment with a lot of emotional impact, I'm glad people posted it since I feel like my build cheated me out of this.
@@muazadam983 Their stories are more realistic.. Life and world is not black and white. AC6 for example has no good or bad endings per se. For example we will all die, so is there no hope? According to the scientists our sun will eat our homeworld? No hope there??
Walter and Rusty are the only fights in the whole game I refuse to cheese in any way. These two truly earned the right to a fair fight where it comes down to actual skill. Anyone else feel this?
@@SonekRdouble melee is the ultimate cheese. Equip Basho arms. For left arm weapon Laser Lance and left back weapon put Pile Bunker on the weapon bay. Do some damage with your right side weapons, then use Laser Lance for the stagger break and immediately switch to Pile Bunker and charge it
I wish I had seen all the dialogue, I didn't realize there was so much because my build chunked him so hard the first time I broke his stagger that he never healed... I saved the footage and the whole fight was done in 17 seconds. I ended up looking up this video just so I could see all the dialogue and what the fight was supposed to be like, I honestly feel like I cheated myself a little by building too optimally since I missed out on such a dramatic and emotional end battle.
I gunned him down with 2 miniguns. And all I felt was sad. I don't think his boss is truly meant to be the most difficult as a Final boss. Cause all he is.. Is a man forced to fight. In a new state of being that clearly isn't an easy transition. And to think all we hear are character's voices.. But I care more about faceless voices then most game characters.
This was the saddest moment. Walter was the only one who treated you right and doesnt belittle you. When he got sent to get reeducated/brainwashed, it was sad to have to face the one person who stuck by you through thick and thin. Even defending you as a someone while the others treated you like an object. Rusty was another one that was just an amazing character overall. Man... this route hit hard.
There is some info Logs in the game that vaguely tells what happened with the prisoners that Arquebus take Most go into slave labor and those who seem capable of piloting or fighting go to the reeducation camp But those who don't break there Got send to the Factory This is probably what happened with Walter Those people get surgically augmented and torture They removed the humanity from them One log says that some text subjects are only a head and torso connect to the AC I'm afraid that there isn't much Walter left inside that AC He seem to struggle trying to talk and even if he managed to remember 621 He is still trying to kill us because that's the corporation order That ending is mercy killing him Snail is a sick bastard
Just completed this fight and its such a bittersweet ending you fight for a better tomorrow on rubicon but at the loss of your handler and one of your few friends.
Does anyone want to discuss maybe he’s not accepting his fate, it’s actually a remark of some sort “youve found a friend” The way he says it and just immediately dies after, I don’t think he’s happy And that’s going to be part of my evidence for a thesis to a video essay I’m making on this game
spoilers for the other endings its such a shame that walter doesnt get a happy ending. realistically, there was never gonna be one for him - basically someone who forces augmented humans into indentured servitude for the purpose of killing an entire world. but even still, seeing that he has the capacity to understand the potential of coral and humanity together makes me wish for a world where walter could fight with you for the good of everyone. instead, this is the best he gets - understanding where he went wrong before he dies.
Dude got hit down to *1* hp that's insane (Other ending spoilers below) Also, I find this fight way, way, *way* more sad then the one against Ayre. Especially with context...
@@utoro5 I’m not sure to what degree this was or wasn’t his AC considering he has it in the third ending when he was not captured by arquebus. I think he must have found it while we were in institute city.
@@xxSturdyWingsxx Based on Allmind's analysis entry for HAL 826, I think its more likely that Walter already has the AC but is holding it in reserve as a trump card. When Arquebus captures Walter they also confiscate the AC.
@@fusioncell7669 Based on the events that happen after your capture its shown that this AC was among the things discovered by Arquebus, they even show the AC on the visuals. If i had to guess, its probably Walter managed to get his hands on it on the third ending due to Arquebus control falling apart due to Allmind's interference and most of the Vespers being killed.
