Armored Saint : ranking all 8 studio albums 

I saw Armored Saint and W.A.S.P. in November 2022. What a great show!! John Bush still sounds fantastic!!

Thanks for the ranking, Darcy. I have enjoyed this very much as Armored Saint are one of my favorite band ever. Love ALL 8 albums, probably couldn't rate them as I don't want one to be "last"! :-) My gig history with the band: Was glad enough to meet Joey at their rehearsal space in the year 1988 (as it was near or was the same where EvilDead / Agent Steel / MX Machine and others practising) and if I remember correctly he invited me to one of the weirdest shows I ever went to in my life: It was a showcase at the Country Club in Reseda and there were only business type / record company people / magazines there and exactly TWO Metalheads, a friend of mine and myself! It was Roxx Gang, Warrant (that was pre-their first album but they were already signed and a buzz band in Hollywood) and ARMORED SAINT! I think there was another 4th band I can't remember which). Man, that was surreal: Finally seeing Armored Saint and the floor infront of the stage was EMPTY, people were sitting(!) , band played very well but: no reaction at all from the "crowd" besides some polite clapping, can you imagine this? Especially since they played there many times before to a capacity crowd.. They visited Germany, where I live, just 3 years later for the first time supporting the Scorpions. Every time they played Bang Your Head festival, was cool, too. My all time favorite show (year 2000 I believe) of theirs was at the Hafenbahn, Offenbach, which was a dump but they tore the place down!!! ( I wish I had a live video or at least audio from that show!!!) Also glad I was actually at the show where they recorded their "Carpe Noctum" Live album you mentioned (at least parts of) at the Coloss-Saal in Aschaffenburg, that was awesome, too.

Armored Saint is such a great band. personally, I love Wins Hands Down. it’s one of my favorites.

Said it before, will say it again. Delirious Nomad tour. 300 of us in the crowd. Band came out decked in all their glory. I’d love to ‘ relive ‘ that concert again. They were like a motorcycle gang. They were rough tough and calling all the shots.

Thanks for this raking Darcy. Symbol of Salvation is a true masterpiece! The disc is all killer with no filler! I agree with you, Symbol of Salvation is one of my desert island discs as well. My second favorite is also Raising Fear. I saw them on the Symbol of Salvation tour in 1991. Joey Vera was walking around the club. He offered to take me backstage to meet the band. They were all very nice, Joey and John Bush in particular. Gonzo gave me one his drum heads which he signed. I still have it. It was a late night, I literally took the "Last Train Home" that night!

Joey Vera was also on the Anthrax Greater of Two Evils album and some live shows when Frank Bello took some time off.

Absolutely amazing band!! Have loved them since I bought March Of The Saint on cassette in 1984, I still need to get La Raza, never heard that one, let’s hope we see a vinyl re-issue of Revalation soon. The ‘83 EP rocks!! Punching the Sky took me by total surprise, outstanding album 🤘cheers🤘 Ed

Thank you! Raising Fear is fantastic! Everyone always fave Saturday Night Special a hard time but it is a great cover. And David is truly missed! For any newbs, check out the Halloween show 1987 and the extended version of Book of Blood in 1990 right before he passed. That one has the greatest guitar solo I've ever heard, so poignant as he passed 2 months later. Long live the Saint!

Cool video that 👍 Tough to name a favorite as they have been pretty consistent over the years. March..., Symbol and Punching... are the best imo. Saw them in a club in Manchester, UK on the Punching The Sky tour and they were great live 👍🤘

After closely listening to the La Raza album and the Win Hands Down album in the last few days. I've come to the conclusion that if you take the first 6 songs from both of those albums. In my opinion You have a really great Armored Saint album. I've made a CD of those 12 songs for my truck and they flow together really great. They are truly 12 great songs.🤘🍺

Revelation underappreciated and a top 3 for me.. its their heaviest and it had to be because of the time period, great sound production and the band had a point to prove for being out of action for so long.

Hey Darcy! Armored Saint on Planet6Strings! Yes!!! I love Armored Saint, truly one of the best! Just wish Metal Blade would reissue Revelation, that one is SO hard to get on vinyl! I JUST got Win Hands Down on vinyl. Really dig that album. Get in your car, roll the windows down, and crank up With a Full Head of Steam, a great one for rides! Great episode! Salut Darcy.My favorite Armored Saint album is Symbol of Salvation.When i was on holidays in Canada in September 1991 i was lucky to see them in Toronto in a small club for that tour.Good gig.😃👍

Armored saint is one of my favs.

Fantastic updated AS ranking. "Symbol..." is still my number one, I´ve seen them on that tour in 91. It was their second show in Germany ever. Since then I´ve seen them countless times, maybe 10 or 12 times. "Revelation" for me would rank a little higher, the album grew on me so much! AS has exactly zero stinkers in their carere! The CD version of "Saints will conquer" is probably my fave overall, CD version because it has two more songs than the vinyl. The "Nod to the Old School" comp needs a vinyl reissue! There´s no vinyl version but apart from that I have all their stuff on black plastic.

I think Revelation and Symbol of Salvation are my two most listened to but great list and great band. Killer live too!

Big John Bush fan, from Armored Saint and Anthrax. Wow, this is a tough band to rank. Really like their whole catalog, but have to go with the classic Symbol of Salvation.

Hey Darcy, very nice video, full of insights, als always. I came across Armored Saint in the late 80's, beginning of the 90's... My first Album was Delirious Nomad, then got Raising Fear, and I love them both... When Symbol of Salvation was released, I played it to Death, and is still a killer album! I kinda lost track of the Band after Symbol. Then I got La Raza, and that was not my cup of tea, so Iost track again.... Still love their early stuff. As I missed some of the newer albums, I really have to check out Punching the Sky Anyway: Have a great year 2023, best wishes from Germany, and of course - stay heavy!

Great ranking Darcy. Armored Saint is hit or miss for me. To be honest i have not listened to them in a real long time. I did not even get Punching the Sky when it came out. Maybe i will pull some out today and listen to them since i have the day off. Hope you had a great weekend.

Also i agree, they have never done a bad record so far, however some of the artworks are rather "boring and lame", but the music is killer. cheers and be well

Good to hear your thoughts on these albums again Darcy. Nice to see Punching the Sky talked about so highly, it's a killer album. Just listened to it the other day on here, it's still really expensive to pick up. The top 3 are classics. These are a band I want to dive deeper into so some good song recommendations there.

Great ranking. I love Armored Saint. I have every album, including the debut EP on vinyl, Nod to The Old School on CD, and the first 2 live albums, the first 2 DVDs. The newest live album is on my to get list, I want the live DVD. While I have every album, and like you feel they haven't released a bad album, I'm not as versed in the last 4 album just because I haven't listened to them as much, so I pretty much feel the same about the last 4. I don't think I could rank them. I think I could only rank the first 4. Raising Fear is my favorite, then March of the Saints, then Symbol of Salvation, then Delirious Nomad. I like Delirious Nomad but it feel really short of how good the debut was. Raising Fear was my first album, and I still love it. I was waiting for you to say Bandit Country from La Raza, but you didn't. I really love that song. The chorus hits real hard on that one. It's the song I just want to get through the other ones so I can get to that song.

Good show ! Long time AS fan, but have never seen them in concert. A solid catalog - hopefully a new release this year or by 2024 !

I saw Armored Saint with Wasp and Metallica at L’Amour in Brooklyn, New York in January 1985. What a show! Such a small venue, it was amazing. I saw them again a few months ago with Wasp. Talk about nostalgia. I don’t know how I’d rank their albums, but I have thank them for some great memories. Rock on.

Symbol aof Salavation is my favourite. I discovered them on that record. By the way you will be happy to know i preorderd the new Hellripper😀🤘

I think John Bush is amazing probably in my top five vocalists. Not a bad album by them, my number 1would be a toss up between Delirious Nomad and Symbol of Salvation, depending on my mood. And I think David was one of the best guitarist out there.

When Armored Saint stick to there U.S power metal origins they kick some serious arse , not a fan of there proggy moments . March of the saint and Delirious nomad for me young fella . Cheers captain six strings 😉
