Joy, you’re a natural teacher (on steroids...lol). This was a terrific explanation of both the “how” & “why” of each step. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. Hope you got your house in order before Jerry got home. We won’t spill the beans of how you live when he’s not around. 😉🤣 Too funny!
I make my own patterns with the integrated facing too and adapt patterns to have that feature. It’s so clean and time saving while sewing. Loved seeing that from you because it’s not a common feature.
The best!!! 😄. A sewing, fitting, technique, tips and tricks all in one video! Laughed out loud about the pin holder getting sucked to the iron! You made my day, thank you!
I love you and Viv mom, you both are always so happy and smiling and upbeat and make you fill happy. You have so much knowledge about making things. Thank you for showing us how to do things.
Joy, thanks ever so much for sharing your vast knowledge on sewing! I’m enjoying watching your videos and either remembering things I had forgotten from my garment sewing days or learning new tips and tricks from you. You are making garment sewing sounding fun again after too many years away from it.
Wow Joy. You put a smile on my face. Your name surely fits you. It's who you are and it’s what you make others feel - Joy! When you told us about the magnetized pin cushion flying up like a spaceship, I lost it completely and couldn’t stop laughing. Half hour later I’m still smiling! Thanks so much Joy! You are terrific!
Thanks for the lesson on how to construct your blouse. Super easy idea for the front facing. I love it. You are too funny about getting the house looking organized before your husband gets home!!LOLWe women have our secrets, don't we!! Haha
I'm a veteran sewer and always learning how to better my skills. I've had a blouse in the UFO pile all summer long. You've inspired me to dig it out and complete it. Thanks Joy. You're the best evva!
Hi Joy, great video. I especially like this as a sew along, because a lot of them show the sewing machine work, but not so much the reasoning behind the action. I don't need to see the material going thru the material, but I love hearing you discuss the process. Have a wonderful day!
Some people have the knack for explaining things in an easily understandable way. Joy, you have that talent!! I loved your video and all the tips that you provided. So easy to understand and your finished blouse looks fabulous. I agree with Centered ClayWorks comment that it's nice to hear you discuss the process of how/why you sew the way you do. I don't need to see the material go through your machine, but I do like to know your thoughts and process of sewing. Well done Joy!
I am learning soooooo much from you, Joy. Thankyou. What I thought would be a simple tee shirt patter has turned into a true learning experience in fitting. I’ve added darts, lowered a shoulder, taken in the gaping armhole, lengthened the sleeve, learned ton use stay tape, and lots of practice with my serger. But I am not frustrated! I am grateful to you for all the instruction and sewing tidbits!☺️
Thank you so much Joy, I LOVE THIS BLOUSE! I am the Australia Distributor for Sure -Fit Designs, a couple of my customers ask me to watch this video, they love the blouse! Thank you again for shown us how to make it. Martha
Well HELLO Martha! How lovely to meet you -- sort of. I LOVE Surefit Designs. I made over a hundred garments the first few years after I purchased it. I hope Glenda is much better and feeling good again. If I wasn't so old, I would love to do what you do. You can see me wearing the blouse in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5I8oQVVcsOA.html
LOL!!! Beam me up pin cushion!!! 😂😂😂 Joy, you entertain me so much. I love your teaching videos. No, I love all your videos. Having a coffe with you girlfriend.💓💓💓💞🤗🤗🤗 Thank you for the Louise file folder hem pressing tip. "How we live when our husbands aren't home." LOL! Like we're single! Lol!
Fabulous After 50! I love that woman! Thanks for reminding me about her! I'm going to pick up 5 lb. weights today while I'm running errands since I've been using cans of green beans to do my arms - lol! She has that one where you do arms, then walk in place for 30 seconds, then do more arms, then walk . . . I think the whole thing is 5-10 minutes total but it is fabulous! I really like her. She doesn't ask too much, you know? Love that folded facing! I have got to try scrimping. I still haven't tried it yet, mainly because everything I make these days is sleeveless. I totally forgot about the file folder pieces - gotta do that too! I think it's gone by the wayside after having to move the dang "studio" so many times - it really does turn into a studio after 50 years of accumulating stuff, doesn't it? No more moving for a long time! Maybe ever! I am going to go back to my AFI/Dusan pattern and give it a try with something soon. Right now I just have too many store-bought patterns to do. But I really want to play around with it and get more confident. The whole thing is to get clothes that fit, and you do that really well. There is nothing worse than wearing clothes that don't fit to make you look less than your best. Thanks for the tips. And could you just come clean my house too? I have company coming on Friday. I'll give you my fabulous brownies . . . : D
Love your video! I love the tip on the extended facing. Coolest beans...love listening and watching your methods. As always, I think you are so cute...appearance wise and personality wise too...big hugs and a big thank you for this video! 🤗
Joy thx so much for the tips. Last ironing board cover I got has a pocket attached but I really like idea of penning the pressing cloth to the board instead of wadding it up in that pocket. Love that tip the most. And I will also make myself some cardboard strips to iron up hems. And cutting facing in with garment, wow! Im older than you (68) and sewed since little girl but you are teaching this old dog some new tricks!
Thank you thank you thank you! I've been waiting for a video like this for a very long time. Been a quilter for 30 plus years and now want to try my hand at making a few button-up blouses such as this. I needed a step-by-step video about what to do and when and you excelled at it. I wish you lived closer to St Louis because we could get into so much trouble going to Jo-Ann's and Hobby Lobby. LOL have a great weekend kiddo I'm heading for retreat tomorrow
Joy I came over from Viv's channel. Love so much and now I got one more to love you. Your style, explanation form and tips are so easy to understand. Thank you for a most enjoy tutorial on sewing top. Never would have thought of cutting the facing attached to the front. Look forward to next video.
Love this video! I'm back to sewing after several years and I love the new techniques of sewing these days. Please keep doing the "How To" videos! You are a great instructor. Best to you, Ro Pittsburgh,PA
Joy I love watching you especially when you do things like this. You dont have to have the knife on the serger, you just pull it out and push it back then you can serge without cutting, I do it all the time, give it a go. Love this video and love the ones with your friend having a giggling fit, its so funny to watch. Gwendoline UK
Pretty blouse. You crack me up with your lightning fast mind comments. Thank you for showing the way you do the facing. Will have to try that. Take care
I’m a fairly new subbie and wannabe seamstress, I enjoyed this A LOT! I know you say you aren’t a teacher but you explain the why of what seems like “extra” steps like understitching. I’ve watched a lot of videos and didn’t understand what the purpose was of some of the steps not really explained in pattern directions. I hope you do the same process videos when you sew fall garments like jackets. I want to make a lined cape and would love to see you line something. Thank you for sharing your knowledge....
Joy is a very good teacher, although that might not be her primary goal. I think she just loves to share her love of sewing, but it turns out to be teaching a lot of the time. : )
Good morning! I'm going to try waist darts like this on my next blouse, because waist darts pooch out at the bottom on me, too. Gorgeous fabric - so glad fall is on the way! 🍁🍃🍂🍃🍁 I absolutely LOVE Sure Fit Designs - wish I'd known about Glenda's system 20 years ago. Thanks for the chatter and tips with my wake-up coffee - have a great day, Joy! 🍵
Ruby Tatum here Joy, Love the beautiful new Fall Blouse and the whole video, such a pleasure to watch you, love all the Great sewing technics you offer, your a great seamstress....Love watching Philly also.
Love the video! I would love to see how you do the buttons and button holes. I’ve made one blouse with buttons and I had to redo them because they were off.
Jennifer Lzr buttonholes...darn things! Even after a lot of years I still sometimes run not troubles. In most Big Four patterns they will include a buttonhole guide. I use that, but if I think I will use the pattern over and over I take some fusible interfacing and iron it onto it first. Anyway, mark very carefully. And be aware that any double weight areas or seams will affect how your machine behaves.
Joy, just wanted to say thank you again for the gift card! Received it in the mail today. Sent a message to Vivmom also. Enjoy both of your vlogs so much! Learning lots!
Joy I am a new subscriber to your channel and love all your videos. I am sort of new to SFD (bought the patterns in 1985 and never did get far) as well and I am learning so much from you and from Glenda's videos. I love the way you explain why you do things a certain way. You are a great teacher! If I ever win the lottery, I am going to have a sewing room like yours!!!
I am a newbie to sewing clothes. Thank you for doing this type of video. I am learning so much from you. You are so cute, I laughed with pin holder stuck to the iron.
I just want to thank you Joy for your entertaining and informative videos. I have learnt so much from you and I absolutely adore your fabric choice. I'm hoping I can find that same fabric where I am in London UK.
Hello sweet lady, you should have a sewing video teaching us how to sew.....I have even come up with a name for it...’ a Joy to sew ‘. You are so good at teaching Joy,you make the instructions so clear and ,I think even thicko like me can follow you! If you haven’t a serger, would you do a zig zag stitch? Did you see me Joy,nodding my head off listening to your instructions!😁 What a good idea you have to do your hemming, that tip has certainly gone into my brain, and I will make some sized markers like you have. Thank you Joy for your lovely video, take care, sending you my love xxx
Joy, I’d like to see how you mark buttonhole placements. I really enjoyed this video, you explain methods clearly and I sure appreciate your tips! Thank you.
Thank you, thank you!im do glad you were introduced to us by Viv. I love construction videos. I am a quilter who is transitioning to sewing clothes. I’m 61 and haven’t sewn clothes since HS! I love all the tips and tricks like keeping the front facing on and folding it, Genius. I am binge watching your videos from your beginning and learning so much. Thank you.
Oh Lord you quit right at the hard part. The sleeves. It may only take you one minute each sleeve. lol That is going to look so pretty. Enjoy your hubby coming home!
Houray! Joy is on! Now the only thing I am missing is that blouse to wear it and I hope JoAnn has the fabric in my town. See, JoAnn should sponsor your video. :)) My husband is on a trip and I haven't vacuumed, haven't cooked, haven't do dishes or laundry for three days in a row. Yesterday I sacrificed and cleaned around, and did all cooking so now I can do nothing for another three days. Thank you for the video because my sewing mojo left in vacation and I just pulled it back in my living space! Tammy posted a yarn and knitting video a few days ago and I started knitting a wool hat although there are 90 F here and we have no winter. I will get my sewing machine on the table...And if anyone wants to see what's inside your iron they can go watch one of my only two videos on my channel Catalina Papadia , hahaha! I made a video about sewing that challenged cardigan but haven't post it yet .
Joy would you please show how you measure and space your buttons and button holes. I have a terrible time with this. How close to the edge and how much space in between. Etc. I would appreciate any advice you can give! Love you Joy🥰 You always make me smile 😁
Thanks for the tutorial! You have so many good tips. I would like to make a lined, simple jacket one day. It intimidates me as an advanced beginner. Maybe you can show us how to do that. Have a nice day!
Even though I know how to sew, I enjoyed your video so much. You made it so interesting, and I learned some shortcuts that I’m going to start using! You are so fun! Thanks for your tutorial!
Thanks for the great tips. I will be making a set of seam markers out of file folders! I never thought of cutting the facing that way, so clever! Already using the crimping technique i learned from Vivmom.
Oh my goodness, Joy, I was cracking up so much at your pin and iron fiasco. And I love that you live like I do when your hubby’s not home. Scurrying to clean back up. Although he’s caught me a few times in our more unpredictable ‘retired’ life. LOL. But I do have a question... when you do your cut-in facing instead of sewn on and you’re adding the neck piece later, how do you know it’s going to fit exactly? What if you didn’t cut it exactly on and you have a little extra or maybe a little short once you’re trying to fit the facing to the actual garment around the neck area. Just curious how you handle that?
Great tutorial. Thanks. Beautiful fabric & beautiful buttons. The colors in the fabric are going to look great on you. Funny about cleaning for your husband. I do that too. Even after 49 years I’m not sure he knows what a mess I make when he’s not around. I just love it when he’s gone for a few days! Opps, I don’t think I was suppose to say that out loud! 🙂
Fabulous video! I really like the attached facing!!!!! I will have to try that with my next top. Thanks for the idea of pinning the pressing cloth to the ironing board--mine is always floating around the sewing area.
I sure enjoyed this video. You gave us a lot of great tips along with your down to earth humor! And another commenter here, Centered ClayWorks, expressed what I liked about this video, too. You explain the reasoning of why you're doing something, sometimes tell it twice - - so helpful!
I have been sewing for over 50 years n have never seen that facing trick of cutting it already attached to the front bodice. I also like to attach the sleeves first n then sew the whole side seam n sleeve seam at one time. Gives you more room to maneuver the sleeve in the armhole when attaching it.
I hope they do something for us too . I have purchased over $590 on craftsy and have not watched half of them. I liked to know I could refer back to them as needed. I purchased quite a few at full price. Oh my!
Hi, Joy, loved all the great tips, especially the facing and the piece of card! Looking forward to your next video and I hope Phylly is Ok after her surgery. Kind regards from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧😊💕
