The first man on the moon discusses his career as a test pilot and NASA astronaut during his participation in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's annual John Glenn Lecture Series on July 19, 2009,
I totally agree with butch tropic and wcottee.. I adore Neil Armstrong esp not just for his unbelievable skill and bravery and dedication, but also for the way he carries himself and never uses the word I, it's always we.. I think that's so humble of him and in my opinion is what a lot of people in this country are lacking. People can really learn and see what a true gentleman is
@@maxsmith695 That is true, but it seems more and more these days that if your a public figure with accomplishments it seems they want it to be all about them…
Holy Moses, Mr Armstrong! We will always love you! Thank you for taking us to our Moon! We salute you, Sir! We shall meet again in another galaxy, au revoir!
RIP to Dr.Kraft, General Collins and Colonel Armstrong. I don’t think they ever thought they’d be such great lecturers in there ripe ages. Incredible deepness in there thoughts of history. They lived it and became historians of there own times. Quite incredible to see it. Thank you ! Dr Aldrin,: 2035 on Mars, Wow, you’re on the ball !! Looks like it will happen in that time frame. Signed: A friend of Alan Bean , another great man , explorer , artist and historian. I miss you a lot. Martin.
This year will be the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. The lunar landing was a proud moment for humanity and united the world. It was accomplished with the concerted effort of over 400,000 people working toward a common and ambitious goal. I hope we will get to experience that solidarity again. Chris Kraft, George Low, Gene Kranz, Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and all of the Mercury and Gemini astronauts will always be heroes.
How could you allow yourself to fall asleep when you're watching and listening to these living legends?!! The first man to walk on the moon is arguably the most significant historical figure to ever live and you're lucky enough to see him talk in person!! "So what was it like to hear Neil Armstrong talk about the space program?" asks a friend. "Oh I must of missed him, I took a nap."
It is amazing (and somewhat sad) that when we talk about America's greatness we go BACK to the Apollo era and their accomplishments. They represent what we used to be...brave men and women who took chances; all in the betterment of all of us. God bless these people.
and its the spinoffs we gained from that. Energy saving materials, knowledge of how our bodies respond to various forces of nature, and our mental state in the exploration and achievement processes.
Great and inspiring Apollo 11. Nevertheless i must said that contrarily to what Mr. Glenn claims "never someone did something similar for humankind", Elcano's first world navigation at 1523 had a huge impact worldwide and, apossed to Apolo program, was compossed of an "international team". Mainly Spanish, yes, but also Portuguesse, Greeks, Italians or Germans contributed to the mission.
Back when America WAS actually great. And I appreciate the "shout out" to Walter Cronkite who was basically the greatest cheerleader for NASA and the space program as a whole. He helped explain the what's and why's of the program so the average American could understand the missions without a master's degree.
Two days from now will be fifty years since man walked on the moon. And what have we done since then to go forward? We have sent machines to Mars, but, no people yet. Let's do the other thing, not because they are easy, but because they are hard!
I heard that they all agreed to go out together onto the moon, but Neil quickly jumped onto the moon surface... I don't know if that's true, but its hilarious! Good on you Neil!
I don't think any footage exists of them opening or closing the hatches on that thing. Also I think you might be confused regarding Collins, I know he famously said "I don't recall seeing _any_ stars on the moon", he didn't go with them.
I always dream become aastronaut like Neil Armstrong and Edwin buzz aldrin Apollo 11 and Neil Armstrong said on moon one small step for man and giant leap for mankind and Parkes radio telescope dish did the broadcast for the dish and other location was Carnarvon big t.v dish did televised the Apollo eleven landingon the moon20th July 1969
Werner did not design Saturn V. By the time Sat V was developed Werner was nothing more than an administrator. Werner did design/engineering work though on the Vanguard missile. He also did some early work on Jupiter series. I find it somewhat insulting to the Russian engineers to suggest Werner was the greatest rocket scientist considering the Russian's achievements. Are you aware of Werner's notion of how to reach the moon and the HUGE rocket he wanted to design ?
No, Von Braun didn't want to design any HUGE rocket. He just said, that it was a COMMON BELIEF that a Moon rocket waold be one stage only and that it therefore had to be of that size. He knew, since many years, that it had to be a multi stage rocket. That's why he administrated the building of the Saturn V.
You(loser) and neil did it??....every thing about combustion engines(internal & external) came from non-american source....and atomic bomb too.....apollo rocket was 100% von braun design!
By the time the Saturn V was developed Wernher was not much more than an ADMINISTRATOR and hardly worked in engineering. This is not to say he wasn't a brilliant engineer but he was arguably a better administrator and the people that worked with him were loyal and loved him. He was a very charming charismatic man. Wernher was to the Apollo program what Oppenheimer was to the Manhattan Project. A brilliant ADMINISTRATOR, organizer and leader first and foremost.
1h03m06s The first men to break orbit with mother Earth were the crew of Apollo 8. That's too awesome for metaphor. 1h03m25s Spectacular one line rebuke!
Armstrong seems really nervous. If so, it would be so ironic for a guy with obvious balls of steel to get nervous speaking to a room full of people. Weird.
RIP Neil! Neil never ever talked much or hardly did he before the moon landing. His friends confirmed that he was a very quiet boy. So why always look for something to always criticize? Neil's health was not the best here. Listen to what he said not how nervous he was.
It’s always bothered me whenever we want to brag about our accomplishments we show a Saturn-V launch. We’ve been doing that since the seventies, so I’m so thankful for Elon Musk today pushing us forward once again.
