My dad upon listening to this assumed that the lyrics were some kind of metaphor. He does not believe that there is just a song about a trillion tigers at the command of some guy in a cave who wants to kill the sun.
I'm a thousand percent convinced this song originated from the question: 1 trillion lions vs the sun. Already metal in itself but replacing the lions with tigers? Motherfuckers out to build a battleship with words alone.
A band named "Galactikraken", with the album name "Starship Velociraptor", with a song called "Army Of Tigers", that's exactly about that. You sir, are a mad genius and I applaud you for it.
@@littlebigkicker Literally any of those names, the band name, the album name, or the song name has the potential of being one of the greatest anime of all time.
My wife is going through immunotherapy for stage 3 melanoma (bad skin cancer from the bad sun!) This song really cheered her up, at least there's a tiger wizard out there fighting the good fight for her =)
My grandfather died of skin cancer before I was old enough to remember him, and his daughter, my mother, loves cats. This song was practically made for her.
I love how over the top and self-indulgent this track is. It knows the premise is off the wall. It knows it's a laugh. But it still comes off as 100% epic because it thrives in the silly nature of power metal as a genre and revels in the absurdity
"If we work hard and persevere, there is nothing we should fear" is so god damn motivational and the fact it comes from a song this wonderfully absurd makes it so much better
I've been listening to you utter the phrase "I will defeat the sun" since I first met you, so it's nice to finally have an audio / visual aid to help me understand your course of action to achieve this monumental goal. It truly is a brilliant plan.
You know, I ended up oddly invested in the story here... Like, if you'd told me a few days ago that I'd be emotionally attached to some nameless old dude training a swarm of tigers to duel the sun, I'd have called you crazy.... And yet here we are. That's how you know a song's amazing, right there
Have you heard of Gloryhammer, Angus McSix, and Victorius (yes they know it's misspelled, they are too cheesy awesome to care (also maybe some copyright issues, but that's the lame answer (also also, this is technically a grammatically valid use of parentheses, isn't language fun))). Also, those were just trend setters, there are bunch more bands out there now that were clearly inspired the above.
Whenever I used to hear, "Nothing's impossible. You can do anything, if you set your mind to it," my response was always, "Eat the sun." It seems he's found a way.
@@1sdani If I had a nickel for every time someone referenced Phineas and Ferb in a RU-vid comment section, I'd have.....a lot more than two nickels actually.
I've listened to this album on repeat a fair bit and I always envisioned something like this where the tigers attack once and fail, but on the second attempt somehow imbuing the tigers with darkness to counter the light. But I didn't expect Tigerzord. Tigerzord gets a pass.
This and Settle It with a Sword Fight are my two favorite tracks off of this album, very happy to see this one got the music video makeover and hope you end up continuing to have this done with the rest of the album!
I'll admit when I first thought of a music video for this I thought it would just be his bandmates telling him how insane his plot was. But just playing it straight was fucking beautiful and now I simply wait for the rest. And now to binge the entire album again.
Okay, I have a pretty severe case of chronic sun allergy and my favorite animal is the tiger. This is basically the theme of my life. The fact, this masterpiece is released in 2022, the year of the tiger, makes this so much better, than it already is. Just love it! Thanks for bringing this to my ears. I love the lyrics, the instrumentals, the graphics. It's just pure art in every aspect. Everyone involved obviously did a very good job. Finally after "My cat knows what you do in the dark" years ago another worthy title for my playlist of catmusic. The names "Galactickraken" and "Starship Velociraptor" make a perfect addition to the greatness though. But I just love these drawn tigers!
@@SuperIchi Oh, I just didn't get the message that states, socialmediatags or gamingtags have to perfectly reflect a certain part of a persons life and can't just be made up. But then I'm wondering, did all those xXPoossyDestroya69Xx guys actually pet their cats to death? We will never know. Jokes aside, I'm pretty sure not every tag roaming in the internet is chosen by personal preferences or by any rules. Sometimes it's just what sounds good or what fits a specific picture we found. In my case, back then when I was younger, I chose it because of this avatar that is metal as hell. Doesn't mean I can't have pictures of tigers hanging on nearly any wall in my flat.
You wouldn't be able to live in that cave. It's now buried under several miles of ice and frozen nitrogen & oxygen, highly irradiated from the plasma released by the Sun's destruction, and the temperature is now squarely below -400 because the idiot in this music video thought it was a good idea TO DESTROY LITERALLY THE ONLY THING KEEPING THE PLANET FROM TURNING INTO A FROZEN ROCK COMPLETELY DEVOID OF ALL LIFE.
Just when I thought this song couldn't get any more absurd, this animation shows that apparently, this guy's entire initial plan hinged on launching his tigers into space three at a time with trebuchets.
You made my song! I mean look at my icon. But so glad you posted this. I've been wanting to make videos like this, animatic style animation to tell stories through the songs. This just sparked my creativity
I love this song for so many reasons. First, it's just an awesome song. Next, it encapsulates the very essence of power metal. Sick ass guitar riffs with batshit insane lyrics sang by someone with enormous talent. I love it.
I hate it because it has an arrogant, hateful, & ultimately self-destructive message of "blame your life's problems on things you can't understand & destroy them for it" that is eerily reminiscent (to me, at least) of hate speech against minorities, including demographics that I personally belong to. I don't think that was the _intention_ , but the parallels ended up being there.
Real quick I'm just gonna pop off because I see this a lot and it ticks me off, please don't take it personally this rant has just been building. It's not about the talent, the amount of talent does not directly correlate to ability. It doesn't matter how much talent someone has if they never learn to use it. He has enormous skill, and that skill is the result of hard work and practice. Talent effects how much reward you get for x amount of effort, but you still can't do it without putting in any. And you can still acquire skill talent, it's just harder. And which is more meaningful praise, praise for something you were born with, or praise for what you fought long hours, for years of your life for? Not to mention, all this talk of 'talent' contributes to the perception so many people have that you have to be talented to sing, or play an instrument, which acts as a bar that keeps people out of music, when focus and dedication and hard work are what's most important, and music is for everyone.
I always loved the shear absurdity of the idea of the song. It is so stupid as a concept but funny as hell to think about the scenario and the consequences of success. And lest we forget your incredible song to set the scene. The animation goes the exact direction i hoped and i am here for it.
LYRICS: There is one enemy that no one has the courage to destroy She sends us cataclysmic cancer from her castle in the void She blinds our children, burns our skin Dries our crops and rivers thinned You already know her name Yeah, I'm talking bout the sun Against her no one's ever won But I've got a plan so we can win, yeah I command an army of tigers Fight on land and sea and sky Quench the final fire Extinguish heaven's light I command an army of tigers Defeat the sun tonight Since our creation we have suffered this disease that you call day But with my mighty feline army I will find a better way If we work hard and perservere There is nothing we should fear It's our faith that makes us strong Nothing that we can't achieve If we only just believe What could possibly go wrong I command an army of tigers Fight on land and sea and sky Quench the final fire Extinguish heaven's light I command an army of tigers Defeat the sun tonight I command an army of tigers Fight on land and sea and sky I command an army of tigers Fight on land and sea and sky Quench the final fire Extinguish heaven's light I command an army of tigers Defeat the sun tonight
@@hannahhutton4631 I was about to say that no one needed the lyrics posted, purely because of how bad ass the song is, but you've immediately proven me wrong 😂 open mouth insert foot moment
@@paige_iaconelli3034 I first only heard the song without the video, so I thought he was talking about an army of tires, like maybe he was burning tires or something? cracked me up both ways though lol. I couldn't stop laughing while I was driving.
If the genre of "absurdist power metal" hadn't been invented yet, you've done it, no doubt! What an absolute banger of a song! I love how unapologetic it is, and the animation is such a fantastic job, I'll be watching this again and again :D
This is unironically the best music video I have seen in at least the last decade. Epic as fuck. I'm glad you're still getting the animations for the album tracks, this shit is amazing bud. Keep up the great work
Came across you yeaaaars ago for a cover of Be Prepared, but honestly these days I'm here for your original music, because it is SO GOOD. This and Final Frontier are the top-tier tracks for me on a top-tier album. I love it so much. Keep on keeping on!!
I originally found him off of his anime opening covers, but you're right. Jonathan's original music is an absolute blast, and probably half of my regular playlist at this point.
You know when a great time to have this song stuck in your head is? When you're waiting at the bus stop under a beating sun and you didn't sleep last night because you're about to start a morning shift. I may have embarrassed myself, but the lady at the stop across the street got a free show out of my little bursts of dancing.
Bought the album after Best Band in the Universe came out. This one has been a banger ever since! The animation from shoocharu just makes it even better.
everything about this is the most amazing love letter to power metal, it is quintessential. The lyrics, the premise, the fact that this man has a high tech secret cave with massive elevators and accurate, real time data analysis of the earth's orbit around the sun yet is using trebuchets to launch the tigers, it's the dumbest thing that has ever graced my eyes and thus it is the greatest thing to have ever happened
I wasn't particularly entertained when he announced his original music by essentially calling interest in his covers trash, but yeah he's above average at entertainment
Omfg the hilarious thing is, I imagine music videos to _most_ of the songs I hear when I listen to them and I ALWAYS imagined that at the end of this song there would somehow be a battle between the sun and a giant tiger made of a bunch of normal-sized tigers clumped together so this was freaking perfect! 😆
when I listened to this song I always visualised a man standing in front of the peoples like a president that needs to say something publicly and the song is him announcing what he wants to do with some images from a powerpoint that was made from badly drawn tigers running towards the sun :D
You know, for a song with such an absurd premise, it's... A dark story. The world is dying, killed by the sun. People are starving and there is no hope... Although who knows, maybe a man with an army of tigers will find a way to save the world.
Of course Shooch made this video. He's the only animator I can think of that can match the level of goofy epicness in this song. Excellent work all around!
I love this song, and I just love how much emotions are put into the Faces of the character. For Example, When he pet the tiger you see him cry for his tigers who he clearly loves. Then when he is about to press the Launch Button He closes his eyes again, cause he knows if he presses that button he will most likely lose his beloved Tigers, but he still presses it cause he got to try at least. Like seriously.. There is so much story in this short animatic.
Good Lord I was like where are you going with this Jonathan? Then the music hits right in the feel goods with a 1 minute story that just blew me away! Every scene baffled me to shit... The Sun bad? Catapults??? Tigers????? Old Man Launch Tigers at Bad Sun?????? OLD MAN KILL SUN WITH BIG BOY COMBINATION TIGER!?!?!? Bad Day 100% flipped to Good Day! Keep Rockin boss!
I am obsessed with the sheer chaos of this album - gonna go listen to it on repeat now! This song is going to get stuck in my head for the rest of the day and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way x3
The animation makes this silly awesome song even better! Great job to all involved! A giant tiger made up of a bunch of other tigers... Bloody brilliant!
This song never fails to make me chuckle while also being an absolute banger, and now that it has the animated treatment, I can't even comprehend a better timeline. All I can wish for now is that we eventually get more of these in future, but for now, I'm gonna go back to enjoying listening to this album on loop
the music is a banger as usual, but im impressed with how good this low budget animations are turning out! Thanks for the song and already waiting for the next original!!
Four minutes and six seconds of awesomeness to match a song of pure, unmitigated awesome. Well done, Shoocharu, you made this song come to life in a way that I don't think I could ever imagine.🤘😄
This is my favorite track on Starship Velociraptor, if only because of how absolutely ridiculous it is. The music video is absolutely FANTASTIC for it! Amazing work once again, Shoocharu!
What....what did I just put into my eyeballs?! I have no idea where you got this from Jonathan, but I'm pretty sure I could fight and win any battle right now...
You know... I was wondering what kind of video could possibly fit this bizarre idea and sheer quantity of scenery-chewing. Now I have found out. _It was definitely worth it._
I knew this video would be amazing, but it still managed to shatter my expectations. Simon did some incredible work with the animation, and the song is still as crazy and awesome as it was when it was released. Great job!
Well, this is more ridiculous than I originally imagined lol. I thought the tigers were like starships or giant transforming robotic starships. While the sun was a metaphor for some solar empire or something lol.
Out of all the starship velociraptor songs. Army of Tigers and Final Frontier are probably my favorite songs. But now watching this I have to wonder, did the people who hated the sun live in a desert like area and couldnt get anything to grow due to the sun? Or were the people Nocturnal by nature and wanted eternal night? I and rather curious as to the lore here :)
I've been wanting this one in a solo video for a while, so I can link my friends directly to my favorite song in the album. It helps draw them in for the rest.
At long last, the answer to the age-old question: Who would win in a fight? One billion tigers, or the sun? Apparently, the answer is One Billion Tigers.
