Cool video. I remember when LCU 2018" Five Forks"was brand new and came to the 1097th TC in panama back in 91. Brings back alot of memories seeing her on this video.
Thanks for posting. I went through T School at Ft Eusits in early 1967. Did the 61A10 -> 61B20 -> 61B30 series on LCM-8s, LCU's and tugs. Afterwards most of my class was sent to Ft Story to get trained on the LARC-Vs. After that I was never on another Army watercraft again. In March of '68 most of us were again shipped out together this time to Camp Vayama - near Sattahip Thailand - at the only munitions port in Thailand. That was the 233 TC TS company. I actually enjoyed my 2 years in the Army as a draftee.
After a full 32 year career of service to the US, I would say that if I had a chance at another 32 year stretch, it would be doing this!! While not of the dimensions of many of the Navy's Ships, these "Watercraft" are not small and require no small measure of competence in what I see as an example of wonderfully complex and capable Marine Technology....and in the Army no less😊😁!
That is nice to know about the Army, since I had not dealt with many Army units. I was in the Air Force, and we dealt with shipping troops and their equipment they carried with them. Most of the time we shipped more marines and their equipment, and I enjoyed working with them more since they was more disciplined.
