Live reaction in the immediate aftermath of Arne Slot’s first press conference as Liverpool manager at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby, as Josh Sexton is joined by Rob Gutmann and Craig Hannan…
I take a lot from the fact he respected the players enough to talk to them first about their positions, before making a statement to the press (like Southgate does for example.) It shows that he's composed enough to think clearly in a pressured situation. He could quite easily have just blurted out that he wants Cody to play CF, or he wants Trent to play at RB. Then, before you know it, the players see the interview and get disheartened or frustrated because they'd rather have spoken to him about it and presented their case. It's a very good way to get the players onside, giving them the chance/ excitement of telling the manager their favourite position and having a chat about it. Imagine you're Trent, you're away with England, and you're thinking to yourself right, a new coach, a clean slate. This is my chance to finally show the coach I deserve my chance at playing fully in midfield, which is what I've wanted for years. You then watch this interview and Slots saying "yeah, Trent is a RB and that's where he'll be playing." You'd be instantly downbeat and frustrated. Very astute move by Slot, and he gave some good answers that show he's composed and confident enough to think 3 moves ahead. He doesn't crumble and just talk first, deal with consequences later. I like that. He said he likes his teams to play with freedom. I honestly believe we may even see some players going up a level because they're given the freedom to express their talents. I love Klopp, but he did have a habbit of taking a talented midfielder in particular, and nailing them down to a strict, supressed role that sometimes took away from their abilities. Example: Szobo when he came in. His firat 10 games were phenomenal. He looked like the next generational midfielder, and was being likened to Gerrard, KDB etc. He played those first 10 games with complete freedom and showed how exciting he is. However, Klopp mentioned a few times in press conferences that "he's really good, but he still doesn't understand the role yet." Notice that when he did start to understand the role, it supressed a lot of his natural ability. Klopp basically tried to mould him onto Henderson and take away that freedom because it was obviously leaving gaps etc. For me, a player like Szobo needs to be allowed to flourish. He was shackled in a way that allowed Trent to be the main creator that plays with freedom, which I understand, but I still think he wasted the talent of the player by making him play more conservatively. Klopp did exactly what I'm talking about with Gini. Difference is, Gini had the perfect traits for it, so did Hendo. Szobo is more talented than those two in my opinion. Anyway, I've waffled on a lot, long story short I think Slot might unlock people like Szoboszlai and Gakpo. Don't be surprised if you see both of them having a massive part to play next season. I reckon we're all going to be pleasantly surprised at results this coming season lads!
Yeah it was bad form from the reporters imo. It was always going to happen of course, but if he didn't feel a bit inferior they certainly done their best to make him feel it!
The first of the Danni Olmo goals for Spain was an example of how Trent can impact from deep and wide to finish a move. Olmo came from deep and wide, diagonally, into the middle at the very last second to wind up totally free of markers on the edge of the box to put the ball into the net. The Germans were expecting one of the Spanish front 3 to receive the pass, Olmo appeared, untracked to finish like Trent vs Leicester after we won the World Club Championship..
@michaelwallden7261 Klopp was gung ho all out attack I hear slot is similar but slightly more defensive which I think we need if we want to get over the line when it matters can you understand now?
@@Anthony-no9ji Spot on. Every one of our defenders were left extremely exposed every game. It doesn't matter how good a defender is, physics dictates that you cannot defend certain situations and Klopp's system made them look silly, a lot of the time.
Only headlines am interested in is new players and winning games, hopefully no more about Klopp he’s gone and move on. Comes over really well and hits the ground running.
I'm more interested in seeing the players we already have like Gakpo play in his preferred position. Hopefully Slot gives him the chance to shine there. Buzzing to see if he let's Szobo play with a bit more freedom, like the first 10 games he played when he was phenomenal because he wasn't nailed down to a supressed role. Intrigued to see what he does with Trent, Bradley, Elliott, what he can get out of Nunez, how Quansah progresses, etc. Definitely interested to see if he plays a system that doesn't allow the defence to be as exposed as it was last season. I don't believe there's many players that could come in that are better or have more potential than the boys we have, barring maybe an Endo replacement or a superstar like Nico Williams. I reckon transfer wise, we definitely need a backup CB, a first choice DM and a winger to push Salah. Mo doesn't have enough pressure. Don't think we get a CB better than Virg, Quansah or Konate, so they'd be 4th choice.
Klopp won us everything and was hugely charismatic. He won't be forgotten nor should he. Slot needs to achieve something to be held in the same bracket, he certainly can't rely on charisma, he has none.
@nonnayoubuzinnes1669 he isn't Klopp and never will be. It's unfair to judge him in comparison because nobody is like Klopp. Couldn't care if he has the charisma of a wet paper bag. If he wins things, he'll be a legend either way.
i dont think he is talking about starting and playing a 4-1-4-1 or a 4-2-3-1 , my impression was he considers himself 4-3-3 and with rotation from the players the formation will sometimes look like those formations and sometimes it will look like 3 at the back . which could be interesting but it is also a very clever answer because he may be telling you nothing . liverpool defended 4-1-4-1 when mane was here , firmino dropped into midfield hendo drifted right with trent and salah stayed high . its just the 1 is wide right which is a great counter and left space for mane to attack , something i dont think ever got sorted personally . if arne solves that problem he improves the team .
It was a boring presser let’s be honest, very much PR in mind but I could care fucking less of it - if he gets results on pitch that’s all that matters No need for an over analysis of a presser
No disrespect but the only thing i need from slott is to play good football which includes more control and definitely defend better and of course win me trophies.

Only just watched it. Sorry but nothing like the buzz or excitement like when Klopp joined. He needs to win from the off or can't see him connecting with fans.
Reading far far too much into this. They will not give anything away..... And the situation is always fluid and everything is on the table at this stage.
You all need take your heads out of the clouds ☁️ we need a cb and calafiori was up for grabs but we let arsenal go and get him embarrassing who are we going to sign please tell yes fsg has done good but not enough when it comes to spend in the squad were it needed
@@JoeyKneecap Calling out for buying players without having to wait till August that would strengthen our squad and hopefully win some silverware next season is negative now???
Titles aren't competed for in August or won in the transfer market. If you have anxiety over the squad strength maybe take a break from social media, reevaluate who is actually available or what our current squad is. Weird thought maybe let the coach have a training session. You know, where you can actually prepare for your seasons goals?
@@ByronGroenewald. If you're a club with ambition you get your targets early before other clubs try and hijack it. Oh and yeah good luck winning the title or even competing for it with Endo starting as a DM next season 🤦♂️
There it then. Liverpool won't be signing any new players as he said we've got a good squad already. Other clubs after winning titles improve their squad but Liverpool nah 💀💀💀
@@cosy1914he said nothing wrong I'm confused why does he need to support another team because he wants better for Liverpool. Teams do improve squads when they win league titles that is a fact .
