I feel like the game finally caught up with him. When he burst onto the scene, he was by far the most feared reliever in the game. I always thought he relied on his fastball too much and his off speed stuff has never been that great (personal opinion). But now you can find a guy on almost every team thats 95+ with ridiculous off speed stuff, and I feel like he failed to evolve so people figured him out.

As someone who watches every Yankees game, I can tell you that he had better than average off-speed stuff and sometimes it was excellent. The problem is that he has lost control of his fastball in recent years and went to the off-speed stuff too much, because it was often the only way he could throw strikes. Regularly, he would walk a couple guys, then hang a slider, because he simply had no confidence any more.

Listen, I was born 1953 in Broome County, NY. I have memories of the Yankees starting in 1958. I have an addition I can't escape. With all the years of championships I expect them to win every game. But wasting my time with players who blow leads makes me ill. Attitude, lack of discipline, use of bad language and not understanding their place on the team makes it impossible to watch any more. 5 hours watching a supposed to be 2 hour game is the worst. Then to lose at the end makes me want my ticket money returned. I am the fans in the stands or at home watching on TV. I personally took my family to Tampa one year just to share the experience with my daughter and son in law. We drove from Ormond beach to the stadium in far off St Pete. They won, but my kids failed to respect the experience. Drove back to Ormond beach, slept little. I takes at least 5 hours to drive across Florida, worse in Orlando area. Did it many times, patience. I don't remember the total time, except for the Yankee win it was a sad memory. Next day we stopped at Vero West, couple hours south, so Amy and Edgar could visit his family. Then my wife and myself took off for the estimated travel time of 12 hours to Key West. We stopped at Fort Lauderdale to sight see. Had the original Gump Shrimp. Then we were heading to Highway 1 from Miami, this was new area, didn't understand traffic. What I estimated as minutes took hours. When we hit the scenic areas it was to dark to enjoy. We made stops at different stores. We found a motel in Sugarloaf. Showered, saw signs not to walk around in the dark, went to sleep. The next day we did sight seeing, booked the hotel for a couple of days. Went to Key West. Parked the car, started walking around the end of the route 1 cement marker. There was a young man who did the bike buggy, so we hired him to go to the places the locals went to. This to me was all the movies I had seen and stories about Ernest Hemingway I read from his own hand with the ocean and gulf merged, the color of the water, the temperature of the water was paradise. You get only ankle deep and feel healthy all over. Few hours just taking our time, no rush. When it started to get dark we went back to the motel. Got rested, figured out how much time would be needed to see all the places we missed going there. Best day for a drive. Lots of sun. Only 120 total miles in the keys. After that it was time to get Amy and head home. I don't remember now how much time and distance we went but I tried to make memories. One trip to the old Yankee stadium in 1964. Don't remember much about that trip now. So I am an avid fan. And hate failure. Now I remember watching Whitey Ford pitching to Yogi Berra. Now I remember watching drunk players throwing up in the playing field. Everyone who thinks they are better than everyone else, forget it. You still lost.

@@rulontrost3529 sorry jr but even players said Altuve didnt want it. Same cannot be said for stankees when they got caught. Unless you truly believe they deciphered the 17, 3 straight alcs, then only managed to score 1 run over 18 innings in games 6&7. If the stankees, dodgers, & Bosox were not a big revenue organizations they would have been punished even harder. It always makes me chuckle when you NOT MY TEAMERS open up your mouth’s without thinking. Here is a question for all you ny steamingstankee fan’s. Why did the organization file an motion to keep the MLB letter from being made public? Also why would your stupid managers pitch to Altuve, with seconds base open, Marisnick on deck, and Chapman’s fast ball not getting close?
@rulontrost3529
@rulontrost3529 Год назад
@@rogueldr642smiythe9 see you assume. I never said I like the Yankees. My least favorite sports team of all sports. But the Astros cheated. You can’t debate that! They got caught. So when you sing a players praise for doing doing something good during that time frame it is an insult to the game. I am not saying other teams didn’t cheat as well, but last time I checked two wrongs don’t make a right. And of course his teammates are going to stick up and say Altuve didn’t want it, he is their teammate.

This is the best thing that could have happened to the Yankees. The best way to lose in the playoffs is to rely on your "closer." Let the closers get you there and then watch from the bullpen, legs propped up, smoking cigars. In this case he wasn't even helpful in the regular season - how many late game homers would he have given up in the postseason?
