Don't throw in the towel Cardinal fans. The aging rotation may be at the heart of the problem, but there are a boatload of good young arms in the minors t hat are a year or two away. I believe you will see Tim Hence and Tekoah Roby by the end of this season. Likely get Cooper Hjerpe and Gordon Graceffo in 2025 and you still have Max Rajcic, Michael McGreevy, Sem Robberse, Adam Kloffenstein, Ian Bedell and Brycen Mautz as starters in the minors. And it looks like Zack Showalter could become a force out of the pen. Not sayin these guys are the answer, because you just never know how they will perform in the majors. But, they potential is there to have a starting rotation and backend of the bullpen all in the age range of 23-25. If they do pan out ... could we be looking at another 90s Braves-type of team? I do agree Marmol will have to go before tat can happen ... but as a Mets fan, I will give the Cards way more benefit of the doubt than my team ... LOL
Here is the thing about contracts. You guys look at contracts then look at stats and then say, oh wow overpaid, or that it doesn't make any sense, etc. you forget that mlb is a business, and major league teams are a business. but you don't account for the player popularity, jersey sales, etc. Lindor prob makes over 25-50 million in jersey sales alone for the team. a kids lindor jersey sells for 125 and adult sells for 200. the city connects just dropped as well. my son has like 6 lindor jerseys. home blue, home black home whites, city connect, etc.
he plays every day. as a mets fan i love that. he will not miss a game. even the birth of his child last season, and this season when he was sick. the guy still came and played before the game was over. he just wont ever take a break. he loves baseball.
The man is in a early season slump and now he’s washed? Dude plays gold glove defense and is on the field damn near everyday. Guess you gotta start reaching to get those views up.
He was struggling around this point last year (albeit not as badly) before he turned it around in the second half. There's still some hope for a Lindor comeback. Right now he is definitely bad, nothing underrated about him.
Whew! What a scathing, surprising video. I'm a Cards fan living in the Bay Area. Pretty much liked the Cardinals since I was a boy in the 60s. Lou Brock/Bob Gibson days. When I've visited STL I've always loved that St.Louis is such a baseball town. I've seen the "new"Busch Stadium/Baseball Village and I'm so impressed by it; would love to go to a game @ Busch someday. I'm surprised to hear all this talk about the incompetent Cardinals staff. Sounds like the way people are talking about the Oakland A's here in my area. And lack of attendance? At Busch?? No way!! Hard to believe. These are just shocking revelations for me, being on the outside looking in at such an iconic club. I'm still a Cards fan (my team is really The Giants.)Love the way red baseball caps are everywhere to be seen all over STL when I'm there.
he's a fantastic player. in fact he is on track for a HOF career. the disappointment comes from his juiced ball seasons and the expectation that he was going to be a 40+ HR hitter when he entered his prime.
AS a Mets fan I mostly agree with everything you said. It’s just hard to digest. I honestly think no player is worth over 30 million per year. Arguably the best hockey player on the planet, Connor McDavid doesn’t even make $15 million per year. NHL salary cap restrains over spending. Kind of sad when you see a player like Lindor, not the best player in the world making more than double.
All my life a fan. You are spot on. The real leaders retired. It wasn't magical. It was better men. Leading good men. Settle down guys. I am not moz fan. He rode jockettys coattails in. He has been competent. There are not many yadis, waino, Albert's, larussa, out there. It's not. Moz is in the hot seat. 🔥 last chance for him and joke manager
This video is rambly and goalpost shifty. Get to your fucking point, my man. Do you know who Francisco Lindor is very similar to career-wise? Cal Ripken JR.! Ripken also had fluctuating BAs and OPS past age 28. In fact, Lindor has a higher career WRC+ and OPS+ than Ripken. Is more than likely going to end up with more HRs than Ripken and will be a HOFer. Is Lindor a streaky hitter? Yes. Has he led SS’s in WAR since 2015 by a wide margin and ranks third in fWAR since his debut? Yes. He's been worth every penny since joining the Mets; everytime a Mets player has a slump you people come out of the woodworks to call them “overrated.” Was he overrated in 2022? Was he overrated in 2023? Is overrated now because as he usually does, gets off to a slow start?
I’m a Mets fan and I Hate Lindor!!!! He can’t hit!!!!! I always hear he is one of the best Mets hitters….SHOW ME!!! I don’t wanna hear just wait he will prove his back of the baseball card….its bull shit!!! Stop hitting lefty cuz you suck!!!!
Cohen bid against himself. That's why Lindor got that contract not to mention mostly anyone watching this video would have taken this contract versus a smaller amount.
Cohen wanted to make an immediate impact move but if you subjected him to a lie detector test he’d probably admit regretting giving him that contact. He’s laughably overpaid so the expectations are so much higher, so his numbers don’t blow people away even if they’re very good.
First of all, narrator, you literally posted the contemporary source for the story. It happened. It can't be denied. The only question is whether the measurement was correct. I've been to Fenway a few times. If it wasn't 502 feet, then it was probably in that range, around 480 to 520. Second of all, why is it so hard to believe? There are plenty of records of Ted Williams hitting the ball in that range of distance. He hit a few blasts nearly that long into the bleachers of the pre-renovation Yankee Stadium, which would have been over 450. He was the only player ever to hit one into the bleachers at Cleveland Municipal Stadium, which were 470 at their closest. And there have been a few other players who could hit it that far. In Williams' own time, there were Jimmie Foxx and Hank Greenberg early on, Mickey Mantle and Harmon Killebrew later. In Washington, Williams managed Frank Howard, who could hit the ball that far. Third of all, nobody thinks of the Red Seat as "the greatest myth in baseball history." Because it's not a myth. The greatest myth in baseball history is either the Doubleday creation myth (which has been completely debunked) or the Ruth called shot (which, I suppose, depends on your definition of "calling his shot"). The biggest myths surrounding the Red Sox are "The Curse of the Bambino" (it was trading all those pitchers to the Yankees that really ruined the Red Sox), the what-ifs surrounding Tony Conigliaro (maybe his nightlife would have turned him from Boston's "Mantle" into Boston's "Pepitone"), and the myth that everyone seems to have accepted, that the 2000s Red Sox didn't cheat by using steroids.
Only braindead lolmets fans think this guy is worth that contract. He’s been flat out disappointing. Contract aside, he disappears when the moment matters, puts up garbage time stats when the seasons already over in august, and should just abandon switch hitting altogether. Hasnt had a GREAT season in 5 years
The bats back then were much heavier with larger barrels than today's bats too though. The Baseball Bat Bros actually do an interesting video on this using replica bats of Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, etc and demonstrating the difference in how the ball accelerates off the bat. I have no doubt they were able to hit some moon shots with enough practice with those bats.
If you shook his hand in the 1980s, you would have known that Ted Williams was a very strong man for his stature. He hit just 34 fewer home runs than Ramirez and 20 fewer than Ortiz. But those guys played for 5 full seasons that Williams missed while serving in WWII and Korea as a fighter pilot (John Glenn's wingman). Over 700 games he did not get an at-bat in. He also played in an era where Detroit, Cleveland and other parks were much larger than the typical park today. He never hit that seat, but he hit more HR per at-bat than either Ramirez or Ortiz.
As a non baseball fan this guy hit the wall many years ago. send him down to lower leagues. He has lost any ability he may have had. Also sack the guys who paid him so much on a long term contract. Seems to me that skill and ability is nothing to those in charge who thow money like it grew on trees!!!
