Both version have their merits. This alternate sounds a bit more “marketable”. The album version is more spare, more bohemian sounding. I like the vocal arrangements better on this version, they are more “full”. However I like the “attack” bridge on the original which follows Prince singing, “I think I wanna dance…” Both are good.
Amazing what a difference the reinstatement of the rhythm section makes - it’s just missing some of the psychedelic embellishments of the released version
I heard the second half of this in 89 on a bootleg. Miss the vocals during the bridge before the last verse and of course the synths after "Papa! I think I wanna dance!"
Love both versions, but this one it's a little bit more defined in the melodic sense, meanwhile the album version is as psychedelic that some times it feels somehow experimental, what I mean is that coming out of the Purple Rain album, this version could have been more appealing and will defiantly smooth the transition to the rest of the ATWIAD album.
would love to see a re-release of "Around the World In a Day". with alternate takes like this one and others. as far as this version better than what was released on the album, i'll trust it's creator on why he decided to do what he did...
Love it - I can see why he took out the bass a little bit; it's on top of the song and not "in" the song. Making it a mush of funk and psychedelic pop - too much going on with the guitar, percussion, and keys.
I’m no musician but I agree totally. I appreciate the bass but it takes away the uniqueness of it. I attended the PR tour in New Orleans and this came out the next day. Still amazed at this totally different direction and this as the lead off song blew my mind
Nice, but to bubble gummy sounding for me. I like the more instrumentally parts. Sounds like something it would be nice to have elementary school kids perform to. I'll take the original.
