It is not underrated. Prince just didn't promote it enough because it was a B side. This song was Purple Rain soundtrack quality. I grew up in Toledo. We could get 98 WJLB from Detroit. This song was in constant rotation. I had the purple 45, if you can remember those. Mojo would play the whole album back in the day. All night. They played 17 days all day long. Trust me. It was well appreciated and recognized.
Warner Bros. did us WRONG by not putting this extended mixes and the original of when doves cry with the bass on the Purple Rain remasters Super Deluxe Edition 5 years ago.
@@Luke91633 I WAS disappointed, to realise though, that 'Glam-Life' WASNT composed as a Latin, Sheila E. song: it was a regular Prince composition, that was Latin-ized with Timbales, and other Sheila additions.
@@Luke91633Apollonia is such liar. She didn’t write or co write Manic Monday or The Glamorous Life.Prince wrote theses songs before he ever met her.As a matter of fact,Manic Monday was written for Vanity 6.Apollonia only joined the cast of purple Rain because Prince broke up with Vanity. She keeps making up stories as she goes along such as being the inspiration behind Prince and David Lee Roth doing the split mid air🙄
They surely did! This is one of my favorite Prince songs!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎼. I truly didn’t like it as well when he had the bigger girls singing it with him at Paisley Park. All the blonde does is scream and think she’s the reincarnation of Tina Marie! I want to hear PRINCE! He puts so much sou and heart into these lyrics. 💜
I left this conversation about 5 months ago because I couldn’t take it. I have been waiting on this version since I was 8 years old and I’m 41 now. I did listen to it about 2 months ago but I dont think people understand how important this song is to fans especially this long version. How many hard times we had to deal with trusting Prince and the Revolution. This is top 5 and its not 5.
This is another example of Prince's phenomenal bass playing which doesn't get enough shine. Brenda's voice is perfect in this song. If there's a version with her on the lead, I hope it's released.
A long time ago I fell in love with this woman who was a widow of my long time dearest friend Omar. I miss him, he was a great guy. Taught me about boats and motorcycles. In return I taught him about cars and computers. His son, Omar Jr and I also formed a close bond. I became Uncle E, which during sessions of pizza, pop and video games (I always lost) and lots and lots of silliness we grew together as a family. One week Omar came home early from work sick. We checked him into the hospital and he was gone a week later. The doctors attributed his sudden demise to leukemia, we were devastated. It was so sudden it was crushing. I mean CRUSHED us. We could barely function. Annette went home to Minneapolis, her son with a relative. Before she left Annette and I formed a close bond too but she couldn't see me without seeing her husband and we dissolved. We never had sex but lots of huggable love with lots lovable hugs. And that was it. Which brings me here to drop me off at the last music we shared. This song fits us to a T. But two decades have passed and they are just a distant memory but I've never been able to close that wound. ❤ ❤❤❤❤❤ I'm still in love with you Annette 🤩💓 Somebody needs to come to my rescue
Erotic City, She's always in my hair, Hello, Girl, all the B classics. I always knew there had to be an extended version of 17 Days. A song that definitely would have been a hit if it was released solo. A song that could have been in Purple Rain.
Very much, this song SHOULD HAVE BEEN somewhere IN PURPLE RAIN!!!!!!!!! I don't think it was even envisioned with one of the scenes, at all. A mistake plain and simple.
This has GOT to be one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE Prince songs, and this the FIRST TIME that I'm hearing this EXTENDED version of this song, and I'm LOSING MY MIND! 🥲😲🤯
i had issues uploading it previously, due to copyright most got muted but now it went public with a copyright claim but atleast the world can hear this song in high quality with no interuptions :)
It's so amazing to know how this musical genus has so many classics in his vault. I figured he had an extended version of this hidden. This is a classic Prince B side song here. I must say it's his best B side song ever. Thank you for posting this!!! Rest in Peace ❤
It’s a toss up for me- this and “She’s Always In My Hair.” Heard them both on urban radio in the Midwest (Chicago & STL). Thank goodness for dope 1980s DJs.
It was actually recorded by Apollonia 6 , you can still hear Brenda Bennett singing and doing that spoken part. And as Prince was known to do he snatched it back and the rest is history
@@michaelgarofolo9096It was never recorded by Apollonia 6. Prince actually may have had it in mind for just Brenda solo, hence her vocals are still present in the mix. When she recorded her vocals Vanity had just left, and Apollonia hadn't showed up yet. He's not known to have asked either version of the group to record it.
Aside from how funky this joint is. I always loved how his vocals are mixed on this track. So much is revolutionary (no pun intended) about Prince’s world of music. He gave you something you just couldn’t get from anywhere else but the Purple Kingdom.
I remember the days - more than 17 - when aficionados with bootlegs of unreleased material would hold it back in their ivory towers. The internet changed all that, for which I am grateful.
not a problem, i thought the same thing when i heard the 7" i knew there was more. the unedited version of The Beautiful Ones is being uploaded currently so if you are interested go to my channel and check it out if you haven't heard it before!
Number 2 of Prince’s greatest songs, behind “When Doves Cry 🕊 .” Unless there’s something in the vault that will blow us all away. And I know there is!
@@MoGumboFukUTubeForChngngMyName , I’ve got them all and like 200 unreleased songs including the full original Beautiful Ones and the 13 minute original Purple Rain, with omitted verses. Some people just have better taste and appreciate the full musical spectrum of geniuses like Prince. Catch up 🫤
The name of the remix is "17 Days (Bambi's Midnight Ball)" and is actually a bootleg remix. I don't know by who ... but I added it amongst my official extended versions. It is amazing!
This sounds really like an unreleased or original before the fading away, Prince did often continue the song and released a faded version of a longer mix. You can hear authentic bits a the end. Unless, unless the master tape was accessed and transfered oh I don't know... to DAT tape... by oh say an engineer working on a tape to DAT project and then fans or a fan remixed it.
No, this isn't a fake or a bootleg remix; this is the full-length Prince + Brenda Bennett duet. This was originally a Brenda track intended for the second Vanity 6 album that then morphed into a duet before Brenda's vocals were largely buried in the mix and it became the Prince & the Revolution B-side we know and love.
Brenda Bennett (Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, + solo artist) is actually doing backing vocals along with The Revolution. Every time I hear this song, I have to listen to “A Million Miles (I Love U)” by Apollonia 6…And suddenly, I find myself in an endless loop of listening to both songs back-2-back; only to fall into a Paisley rabbit hole 💜💜💜
I bought the original 7" and 12" single of this and always wondered why their wasn't an extended version of this sublime track?! I'm glad I finally found this!!!
I remember back in (84,,,????) the only place I could find this song was a juke-box ( look it up) in 'Frisco, at a semi-deli. (Good Cheese Sandwiches & fries.)
Wasn’t this a B-side song? Crazy! Erotic City was also a B-side single! He had all these huge songs on B-side. This would have been a great song on Purple Rain.
It's curious, cos Prince could easily have included this full-length version on the 12" of "When Doves Cry", but he opted to just use the edited version.
