This is very common in that part of the world. They are in constant espionage between each other. I had a funny situation even coming back to Australia from one of my overseas trip which I won’t talk about here. Keep going on your amazing adventures. Thanks for sharing.
Cannot imagine those fears being realized in a foreign land. Glad you made it out okay and hopefully your experience helps another person down the road that might encounter a similar situation.
I'm happy, that all ended well. I hope that in the future the conflict between the two countries will be solved and there will not be such obstacles in the future. Cool apartment - changing the area is also important. I'm happy for you. Miss you and have a nice day!!!
The police really wanted to find something on us I think. The chief was ok though and he spent most of the time with us showing us a big map on his wall and the areas he claimed Armenia have stolen. We kept trying to explain that we are not politically minded just innocent tourists 😉
Abonné depuis hier, je prends plaisir a vous suivre. Vos vidéos sont bien réalisées sans temps longs. Les images sont soignées et vous nous expliquez bien votre quotidien. De plus vous êtes souriants ce qui rend vos films très sympas. Merci !!!
What a shame. It all started out so positive, then turned sour. Such a beautiful part of the world. Awesome people and countryside... with some architecture. :) . Glad you are both safe and well. Cheers for sharing. Peace.
@@GrizzlyNbearOverland agreed. Just doesnt make sense, no matter how paranoid the local government is about 'spies'. lol. Love your work you pair. Cheers for sharing.
Best blog online awesome couple and great Landrover / overlanding clips and awesome footage, keep it up the good work 😊 I have a same 130 and looking to do a trip sometime 👍
That made me think about the Chinese police. To go on a subway in Beijing, you have to pass security check, drink from all water bottles you have and be prepared to show your ID as they will randomly select stations to check ID. To enter Tibet or Xinjiang on road from inland China, there are at least seven checkpoints where you have to show your ID and be prepared for full security check of vehicle. To fill up your fuel tank in Xinjiang you have to show your ID and your face will be scanned to make sure it is your ID and driver’s license. When I came to the UK to study, I was really surprised about the lack of security checks. Travelling to the west of China is really difficult, fortunately those check points are mainly focused on local vehicles, most of the time.
Plus there are at least ten junctions in the centre of Beijing with at least one armoured vehicle per junction with police around and police patrolling the area.
Being arrested was probably a first for Steph. As far as Leigh I'm not so sure. hahaha As for myself, I've never been much of a boot polisher. I think they would have kept me for a while. I'm glad it all turned out okay. Have a great week and try to stay out of trouble !! LOL
😂😂😂 You got me there mate. Well there was that time in Thailand... Maybe a couple times in Australia... 😉 Pretty sure those previous encounters with the law I couldn't claim complete innocence though...
Great video and story - yes all familiar to me as I have been to this part of the world. Beware, KZ is no better. I had the Police Chief take my passport in one town and it cost me US$250 to get it back. Then another episode on a train, detained by 2 machine gun toting teenage police who tried to extort money from me. Its all par for the course in eastern europe. Bon voyage et bon chance yes amis.
We just had to make a similar video about when some guys started throwing stones at us at night in Guatemala. Didn't film enough to make a normal episode, but really wanted to share the experience with the views. Thanks for sharing guys. I've been interrogated by police a couple of times while traveling, but never by the regional police chief and not for something as serious as being a spy. That must have been nerve racking.
Wow that must of been intense... I can understand the lack of footage. That would be the last thing on my mind if rocks were coming at me. I hope you got out of it without harm? I'd be interested to see the video.
@@leighdearle5965 it was intense for us at the time, but neither of us got hurt, just small damage to our camper. Since we didn't have any video we told the story during a "youtube live event" followed by a Q n A session. You can check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qyAkjDnxrD0.html
Lived in Baku, Azerbaijan, for a year, working at Sangachel. Really enjoyed my time there but the country is absolutely old-school corrupt. Almost every cop expects to be bribed. almost all the girls you see in bars are "for hire" and almost every BMW or Merc' on the streets is stolen from another country. Once you figure out how things work, though, it really isn't a bad place to live
It's a pity when things deteriorate in a trip such as yours...at least you didn't lost all of your footage & equipment! And stayed away from a Gulang! ✌👊
Thanks for the message. Yes lucky they didn't took away our filming equipment. I deleted lots of things when the policeman was inside the car. ... now it's just a good story. All good.
That story is an EXCELLENT example of WHY we MUST cherish or FREEDOM. As for that country, it was totally disgraceful how you were treated. NO one should visit a POS place like that....EVER!
This is exactly why I don’t want to go explore a 3rd world country things can go bad fast fast and for all the peace loving people thinking others won’t hurt you you’re far from wrong. Glad you guys are safe.
So lucky. I was scared about all our footage and electronic devices. and at the same time on our RU-vid channel it was Armenian movies ... But they never mentioned anything about it.
Wow. So how did it compare to all the other times you guys have been arrested? Seriously, I think your people skills and authenticity must have helped a lot in a situation where, as you say, things could go pear-shaped.
Ganja hahaha they should be more relaxed having a city called Ganja. It's a shame this happened but at the same time it's an experience. The cool thing is that 1. You guys are ok and not in jail 2. You got back all your tech gear back 3. Your truck all ok Rock on guys!!! Love you both
I'd say it's because of the look of your truck... Weardly it does look a bit army like... You probably learned a lot by now about those parts of the world ex USSR... KGB and all that... Take care and be well.
Sounds like a brown trouser time but well done for keeping your cool and getting through it. Ps...check you Instagram account as I've tagged you into a guy who could make you some 20mm spacers. Or, and just thinking allowed, if you could find a decent work shop, you might be able to find someone to trim your current 30m ones into 20m ones. Just a thought :-)
Thanks heaps Simon. You know what though, I think I'm just going to bight the bullet and go back to 265s. Never had an issue with them and after so many people telling me how bad spacers are especially with the weight we are carrying I think it's probably the best idea that could save us money in the long run...
I read some of the comments sounds ridiculous, you know guys there is a conflict between two countries By 1993, Armenia controlled Nagorno-Karabakh and occupied 20 percent of the surrounding Azerbaijani territory. In 1994, Russia brokered a cease-fire which has remained in place since. If authorities found something suspicious they would definitely introgate, you guys did the right thing to cooperate. all well ends well! Big cheer for you guys!
Wow! That’s distressing guys! Isn’t there quite a large Armenian community in Australia - that albeit tenuous link, might have been your problem. Their paranoia got the better of them
Not politics, Racism and Armenophobia, Azerbaijanis are allowed to travel to Armenia without problems, but Armenians are not allowed to visit Azerbaijan and as you see, foreigners, who have Armenian flags also are treated badly. Azerbaijanis are Turks, they're mad at Armenians existence and wish to entirely wipe off Armenians from this world, because our existence goes against their falsified history.
That park houses some really interesting stuff. Did you notice all the communication lines everywhere? Not so sure it doesn't house something important.
There is a large military base on the national park. The park borders the disputed zone with Armenia which the 2 countries are still in open conflict over. We found out later that the Azerbaijan military thought we had been taking video footage of their base...
@@leighdearle5965 Nice! Definitely not a place I would want to visit. The park I mean. It just looked strange, maybe your experience will help others avoid it.
Yes exactly, we actually hoped that they did look on RU-vid and they could see that we are just travelling tourists. They can even see what we did in Armenia.
Unless they look at your channel as fake propaganda to support your back story you secret spy’s you lol You sneaking around sharing how beautiful and amazing their country is lol. How dare you! Lol Cheers mates and happy trails
in 2000 january we lost 4 nice person overlander from indonesia has killed by RGP at afghanistan because they used hummer h1 as car and in this case yes is probably you use such as military car
So you witness armenophobia by your self. Thank you for sharing and letting the world see true face of this racist people. Hope u enjoyed armenia much more!
