That's what I did in Tanzania a couple of years ago. Can't do that anymore over there though - they have loads of road blocks now. It's always a bit scary to get stopped by the local constable haha

I’ve been stopped 3 times in Vietnam in 3 years and never paid. My cops didn’t speak English and I don’t speak VNese so I acted very confused and stalled so they finally just let me go without a fine. It’s a racket for “coffee money” haha. However, if you resist and they persist they could confiscate your bike and ruin your vacation. I hear the locals pay 200k ($9) for speeding.

Pay the fine? You mean pay the bribe... 1.5m!!!! I cant believe it, you got totally ripped off!! So long as you have blue card and your license they cannot solicit bribes. Just say 'give me ticket' and further to Police being so lazy and only looking for bribes they just let you go. //If// you do pay a bribe then the maximum you should pay is 200k as a non-Viet, although as you are in a rural area the max would probably 100k or less.

You are lucky that your country in the list of Geneva convention on road traffic from 1968, this is the only kind of international driving license that recognized by Vietnam, if you were from the US or Australia for example, your international driving license wouldn't be recognized by the Vietnamease police

8:05 at this time of the video when your friend asks the police in all black, that is a CSCD Mobile Command, most likely a police officer but yes they are similar to soldiers but they have this yellow tag that says “POLICE”

sorry for u, they got the pic , after i know some people who were charged more.. the thing is u have an IDL..99 % of tourist don t have....Next time if it s happened, just show a wallet with 300 k max, and tell u only have your bank car beside....I was arrested 7 times all over Vn, i have to give only one time..200 k, make a " fase wallet with bank card, 200 k to make it real ...ah u re back home ^^

Over 20-35km/h the penalty fee is about 6-8,000,000vnd (~260-340$). So 65$ is cheap for you 🤣

You paid to much .. Before you drive into a country always look up the fines. 65 each is unbelievable...never but never would pay that much

Did you have a Vietnam driver license and motobike insurance with the cards which are both mandatory here? Have a bad accident without either your fault or not and see what happens. Ever seen the show-"Locked-Up Abroad'? This is a dirty, dusty, noisy and dangerous country and not all like you see in these videos.

Effective 1/1/2020, speeding over 20km/h from the speed limit will face a fine of 4-5 million songs ($180-$220) and a license suspension of 2-4 months. Cops are corrupted but they got off cheap on this.
