We left the Lake Louise Campground and headed towards Banff on the Bow Valley Parkway, 1A. A scenic route with minimal vehicle traffic, the eastern part of which was closed to vehicle traffic altogether. We passed many cyclists and had multiple conversations. We rode past a bear up on a mountain and a wedding photo shoot by Vermillion Lakes. In Banff, we headed to a laundromat to wash and dry everything and found a spot to dry our tents. We then headed up Tunnel Mountain to our campground, where a beautiful surprise awaited - the Hoodoos.
June 16, 2022
We left the Tunnel Mountain Village 1 Campground and headed to see the Hoodoos once again. We met a group of cyclists who shared their best routes and sights in the prairies. Exiting Banff we followed separated bike trails to join the Legacy Trail all the way to Canmore. A short ride, with some pesky headwind. We arrived, had lunch, went to a bike shop, then to an outdoor store, and then we headed for our accommodation for the night. We were hosted by someone we met on the Icefields Parkway.

Another awesome video Agnieszka! The views are indeed breathtaking & now I learned something new: the Hoodoos!I will include them when/if I ever get there. Wow, you improvisation chops are now stratosphere level! I am blown away by the tent in a stairwell hack! Bikepacking/ Tourers everywhere will steal that one! Thanks for doing this so I can live it vicariously till I can do it in real time! Patiently waiting for the next post. Roll On! VéloKröte

Yes, the hoodoos were spectacular in person. And I saw more magnificent ones further into my trip. Drying out the tent that day was a challenge as it wasn't warm enough outside and we were a bit stuck. But the stairwell presented an opportunity and one thing I learned on this tour was to leverage opportunities that presented themselves. 😉

Such a beautiful area to ride !! I always like stopping at bike shops out of town, for injoyment not for problems right !! But it's next to look around !! Thanks for the video 📹

Yes! It's a great idea to visit bike shops just to have a chat or for some preventative maintenance. This bike shop was amazing. They gave me a bottle of degreaser for free! I was really thankful for that and completely did not expect that kind of kindness.

If only you could have ridden on a separate bike track everywhere! We ran into the Hoodoos by accident as well :)
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Год назад
Yes! That would be ideal, wouldn't it?! The hoodoos were such a joy to discover. Completely unexpected and so stunning. The video of course didn't capture it.

Chaplin Lake salt flat tour in SK was pretty interesting. Got to see rare birds (Piping Plover) and some strange looking long-legged birds (avocets and stilts). The baby plovers we’re running around our feet. Cute little balls of fluff.

@@WheelsonaBike Even along the highway, it looks like a field of snow. In places a small stream cuts through the salt making salt "canyons" 3 to 5 feet deep. Kinda weird as you expect it to be chilly like a snow canyon yet it's blazing hot.
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Год назад
Which highway are you referencing? Hwy 1? I just checked the map and the lake is not too far off from hwy 1 - maybe the only time I wish I had ridden on hwy 1.
@chrisconnors7418
@chrisconnors7418 Год назад
@@WheelsonaBike Yes, highway 1. There's a few small streams that cross under the highway. When I went through with my dad we saw a sign for touring the salt flats. The salt and mineral mining operation have some of their people drive a small touring bus/van with wide open windows into the heart of the salt flats. It's an important birding area (IBA), which is an internationally recognized designation. I forget how much it was for each of us to tour, but I remember it being a good deal. My dad isn't that interested in birds, but he thoroughly enjoyed the tour; and even he was interested in the "funny" looking birds and took quite a few pictures of them. The mining and mineral company regulated the water levels so birds would have the proper amount of water for nesting/feeding regardless of whether it was a dry season or wet season. If I'm back that way again I hope they're still running tours. I have a better camera now and would get some great pictures.

Wow that looks like some fine riding. The cycling infrastructure and the beautiful scenery together looks like heaven. Even the electric fences to give you security while sleeping. Fantastic!
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Год назад
The fences made me feel a bit odd. I didn't see any wildlife in Lake Louise. Maybe it was just the weather that kept all the animals away.

i really love your videos , were do you keep your bikes when your traveling and staying over ?
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike 3 месяца назад
Thank you for watching. I'm not clear on what you're asking. What so you mean by where do I keep my bike when traveling? I was riding my bike, so the bike was with me. When staying over? The bike was with me as well. If you could clarify, I'll be able to provide a better answer. In Banff, I had the bike serviced when I took time off, so the bike was at the mechanic's. If that wasn't the case, I would've taken the bike with me.
