A rare mid week video and it was due to the fact of two major contests this past weekend the first was the NAQP SSB for HF and I have a video already out earlier in the week.
The second was the ARRL January VHF Contest for 2024 and that's the feature of this video.
The VHF Contest is a favorite of mine for several reasons , first it not as high paced as others and you'll see that in the video, second it's opened to all licensed hams.
Third , is it doesn't take as much in equipment as any VHF equipment will do including an HT with FM!
So let's have some fun on the VHF bands. Like and Subscribe if you enjoy the content . 73

6m was dead out West on Saturday but Sunday it popped open and I worked a ton of FT8.

Jan 2024 VHF contest was busy with good tropo, but no 6M E-skip here. Very busy at times. Thanks to all who mworked my QRP station de KT1R FM09

I agree slight tropo and no 6M E skip. Voice and CW here are almost non existence due to FT8 which was humming the entire contest. How's the ratio by you? Again I don't have an issue with the mode as I have it and use it but it's almost the only game in town on VHF. Thanks for the comment and 73.

I thought contests are only on the HF bands.

I have heard that VHF SSB uses horizontal polarization. Is that correct?

I use small squalo horizontal antennas on VHF 6M 2M and 432. They work great. 73 de KT1R (see my QRZ page)

Most use Horizontal antennas but I always say use what you got including Verticals, yes you loose DB strength with Horizontal antennas with Verticals but more stations means more QSOs for all. 73 Thanks for watching. 73
