Love the Fury. The pricing for it in the US makes it the best short course value for money IMO. Your criticisms of it are very fair as always. On mine I did a brushless conversion and changed to a Dumbo radio with gyro, all very cheap. This might be the first RC I've ever had that needed zero upgrades to handle the power increase. It's so tough.
I think Spektrum Smart LiPos can discharge to the storage level internally after being left for some time in a fully charged state. That's one of the reasons I love Spektrum batteries.
I was on a road trip last month, and almost impulse purchased the green version of the Fury at a hobby store. It looked great in green and felt pretty beefy for a very reasonable price. I didn't get it as it's not what I'm looking for, but it's definitely an option for my boys if they show interest. The speed and durability of the Fury would be perfect for them. The spectrum batteries will self discharge after a certain amount of time. Im not a super fan of spectrum stuff, but the batteries and chargers are super cool. You need the better charger to change the settings on the self storage setting

I'm running a Hobbywing WP-SC8 ESC with a Surpass KK series 3660/4200kv motor (my go to combo for SC & MTs) in it & it's a fantastic little truck. It can't half take a beating, I've had it for around 3 months now & I've not broken a single thing... Well, except for the bodyshell, that was in tatters after a week.!.. I knew to expect that going in so I dug out a 1/10 Big Rock bodyshell, chopped the rear off, used the BR body posts & it fits really well.! I blame the cold Scottish climate for the body disintegrating so fast, obviously being PVC didn't help. I believe that the clear bodyshells are made from proper lexan.!? I'd like to fit one in the future. At this rate your SC truck roundup will be 2h, not that I mind though! 😄 This Mega series gains so much from even a cheap brushless system it's about mandatory for me, and they can take it easy!
My nephew has been pretty hard on his Gorgon and it’s only broken a servo saver (common failure point, I almost don’t want to count it) My Gorgon however 😂 snapped the chassis in half near the rear wheels but that was after about 10 massive jumps on 3S and asphalt so I’m not even mad 😅 Might have to get this truck to replace my Gorgon, looks like a fun skatepark basher
I'm with you on the rechargeables. I have some AA batteries I've had for probably close to 20 years, and that I have recharged hundreds of times, and they still work. Since then I have bought many more, and most stuff aorund our house that runs on AA (and AAA) now use rechargeable batteries. I'd say I probably have at least 50-60 of them. The last couple of years I have bought most my AAs from IKEA. They also have some decent chargers, that can take up to eight AAs or AAAs. :)
It's the way to go for most applications, yeah! Though I keep alkaline or lithium cells in my emergency lights in the car for a reliable, long standby. Everything else gets rechargeables.
What an excellent pack for someone getting into sct's, got tools and all!! You still ride bikes? Correct though, better to be fast with a slow vehicle than slow with a fast one. Great video yet again, looks like a great truck but the Arrma Mojave 4s is still prettier.
I'll throw a leg over again someday, but I'll finish parenting duties first. The value of this one is pretty amazing. I think it'll be a long lasting, much loved vehicle for many youngsters starting out. And it'll take some upgrades, too. There's a lot to like!
