Purchased the new Gorgon because it was cheap and it is 2wd.. It was a no brainer for me to get one.. had a donor granite, swap some parts and let it ride!! This vid we change out the motor, spur, and pinion.. 💪🏾
Yeah man its pretty quick for a 2wd cheap car.. given i replaced the electronics and gears lol.. honestly, the transmission good, it could take 6s, maybe the castle 2200kv combo 🤔… lmao… naw ima chill right here lmao.. save my bread for my 5th scale builds..
What shocks are you using please? Great rig, I’ve stuck with Spektrum, smart reciever, 130a Firma esc and 3150 brushless with rocket fan on top running on 3s, it’s awesome fun. The only other thing for me to sort is the suspension. Great content dude🤙
Thanks for watching. I grabbed some aluminum shocks from amazon bro. They have so many to choose from. Spent $25 & got some shock oil and just slapped them on. Stiffer springs. Mos def helped when jumping but you will need a wheelie bar because it stands right up when you throttle it. Such a fun rc..
That thing looks so good I normally don’t by 2wheel drive RC’s but it just looks fun & that’s really what it’s all about just going out & having fun. Sometimes ya kinda cringe when your out with a expensive super fast RC because if ya crash it’s going to be painful & I don’t mean literally it’ll be painful on the bank account 😂 But I’d have to say today’s bashers are tuff as hell. I ran my Fireteam right into a metal poll & I thought for sure something broke but nope kept on trucking. I haven’t seen one bad review of this basher so ya know it’s that fun.
I agree 1000% bro. Very expensive when you crash a custom build. But these guys a lil easy on the pockets and can take a beating for sure. 2wd is fun to rip. All wee need is a 5scale now lol.
If I plan to run 4s with a 3660 3150kv motor should I get the 55t spur and 26 pinion or get a 50t spur and 26 pinion so it can be faster and not be so tight
Smaller spur for sure! If you havent already got it. Just watch the temps on that motor on 4s running a larger pinion. It starts cogging around the 22T and higher sizes
would you mind posting a link to all the parts you needed for the brushless upgrade? (esc, fan, motor, anything else). I'm new to RC and my son and I have burned up FOUR brushed motors on the gorgon since we changed from the stock NiMH batteries to 2S LiPo's. We didn't realize heat build-up was an issue on the first one. But the other 3 - we've been trying to be careful. The last 2 haven't even made it 1 battery pack even with shutting down the car every few mins to let it cool down (and adding a fan above the motor). I don't know if we're doing something wrong - or if the stock brushed motors just can't handle LiPo's? Or we got the incorrect LiPo's? (They're 2s - and the specs match everything on Horizon Hobby's website for the Gorgon - except they're "80C" instead of "50 C"). Would setting gear mesh a touch too tight possibly lead to burning up a brushed motor? Other than adding LiPo's - and having to reset gear mesh after installing new stock brushed motors - we haven't really messed with anything. We bought stock motors from the local Hobby Shop - not amazon junk. (2) different gorgons - burned up (2) motors each. I can't help but wonder if it's just the design of the motor cavity not letting enough airflow in there? If anyone has any ideas on what we may be doing wrong - please advise. We're newbies. The last run was very conservative with run / shut down times and we STILL burned up the brushed motor in less than 1 battery pack. Thanks in advance!
aww man, sorry to know that you guys are having issues. The brushed systems are pretty reliable as long as you don't over power them with to large of lipo battery or pinion. You can try a few things, get a recommended discharge rated battery for the brushed motor. If 50c is recommended, see if that fixes the issue. Also, the gear mesh or oversizing the pinion could cause heat issue as well. If your using stock pinion then its your gear mesh generating the heat if you don't have factory "defective parts". But if your tired of the brushed motor issues, come on over to brushless. Run 3s all day with a16-20 pinion your choice. Higher the KV, the smaller the pinion is needed for speed and efficiency. 3300kv combo fits right in there. www.horizonhobby.com/product/firma-85a-brushless-smart-esc-3300kv-sensorless-motor-combo/SPMXSEMC01.html ALL these motors fit as well. 3150kv - www.horizonhobby.com/product/firma-3150kv-brushless-motor-4mm-bullet/SPMXSM1000.html 3200kv - www.horizonhobby.com/product/firma-3660-3200kv-4-pole-brushless-motor/SPMXSM2000.html 3300kv - www.horizonhobby.com/product/firma-3300kv-brushless-motor/SPMXSM1300.html 3800kv- www.horizonhobby.com/product/firma-3800kv-4-pole-brushless-motor/SPMXSM2900.html ESC 85amp for 3s is safe www.horizonhobby.com/product/firma-85a-brushless-smart-esc-2s-3s/SPMXSE1085.html ESC 100amp is more efficient. www.horizonhobby.com/product/blx100-brushless-10th-3s-esc-4x4/ARAM0160.html If you can find another combo with these size motors or buy the motor and esc separate your good to go.. @MrMeDos on the first link you posted for the combo package on horizon hobby - it shows Smart ESC a Programming Update Box: Avian and Firma. I don't have one. Is this required to make the system work?
You and I are going to become besties. I bought one of these two weeks ago for my kids but have bashed with it more myself. I immediately put the same motor you upgraded to in this video with a 100 ESC, fan and wheelie bar on it. LOVE this truck on 3S. I found your video searching for info on upgrading to metal spur gear (need to replace the plastic one already). How’s your new combo performing?
