The pinion that stripped is made from inferiour moulded powdered metal, the new black pinion is cnc cut from solid hardened steel

Hey buddy , massive thank you for watching . Yes I agree it does seem to be that is the case isn’t it . With them both being made now of the same materials and both toughened I’m hoping it will hold up to some awesome bash days . Stay safe bud Chris 🤙😂🚀🇬🇧🤘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The silver one won't be Hardened. The black one will be heat treated to harden the steel. You can tell the difference by running a file over it. The silver one will sound dull as the file runs over it. The black hardened one will have a different sound. Higher pitched sound as the file passes over it.

Hey Rich buddy , Hope that your well , Yes as you say the black variant is a Hi Tensile harden steel , same material as the spur gear , so fingers crossed buddy were in the running again hey . Not sure i fancy running a file over it mind ill be honest with you lol . Have a great weekend buddy , thanks for watching again . Stay awesome Chris :)

Hiya Chris. Ooh this makes me think that I need to check the state of the pinion in my Outcast. The ones in the 3s cars seem to last nearly forever so I wonder if the issue is the steel spur gear wearing it down. Still seems a bit off to me. Anyway hopefully the upgrade will be better. Cheers for now mate 😁👍

Hey there Pete ! , Hope your having a great weekend there buddy . Yes i would say check the pinion buddy it does seem that arrma has fitted the same material pinion gears to the 4s as the 3s trucks , now on the 3s truck thats fine as the spur gear is made from composite plastic , but yet on the 4s its a hardened Hi Tensile steel so the lighter alloy part will suffer to the harder one . As you said its hard not to like these trucks for sure if your a fan of the 3s range the 4s is a very good truck to own . Yeah fingers crossed i have a feeling this better made pinion is going to hold up just fine , now just need some better fans to cope with the extra gearing hey . Stay awesome buddy Chris :)

My guess is that for RTR production quality, standard steel is fine with the plastic spur. But once the steel spur was installed, the oem pinion wore down due to the hardened spur. The new pinion is most likely hardened. Nice video

Hey man , As you said the normal pinion is absolutely fine with the plastic spur gears , but it does seem that the steel spurs that come on the 4s cars it wont hold up for long ! Thanks for the kind comment as well buddy Stay awesome Chris :)

Luckily only your pinion gear got beat up, im still waiting for an answer from arrma. Hoping to get my 2, 1 month old outcast 4s motors back as warranty.

Ohhhhh what happened buddy to your motors. ? Chris

@@ChriswithaCrc I got one for my gf and one for myself, after 3/4 runs her motor blew up. Next day i went to the hobby shop to explain. I was told it could have happened because of possible overheating and bashing. So I went out with my own outcast 4s checking temps, while going in a straight line it cogged up. Also destroyed that motor. So I had to send them in for inspection by arrma. But they are busy so it could take a while. My guess is arrma installed the motor mesh too tight + how easy it is for dust and sand to pile up in the motor housing. Gonna have to wait for a while, hoping I can het 2 motors replaced lol.

This will get super hot Chris on 15t. Especially with the throttle technique you like to use! Just watch them temps bruvva. I’ve got a rocket fan to help along with other heat sinking items. Still gets super toasty. Speak soon dude.

Thanks for the tips bud , Yeah i do tend to have a throttle finger from hell and do love the red mist coming down lol . Well i am about to go and give it a run now some will report back on how it feels when running it . I will get some rocket fans ordered later on for it . Stay awesome bud Chris :)

Does the 2 extra teeth really make that much of a difference with extra heat. I was thinking of getting the 16t for my v2.5. Is the better fan for the motor?
@SnoriRC
@SnoriRC 3 месяца назад
@@sauceNkicks It runs hot in general. Extra teeth make it hotter and reduce run times. For an enhanced feel I’d recommend stiffening middle diff oil and adjusting punch before adding more teeth. 🦷

Had the same problem with mine I just stripped the pinion gear, albeit after some monster launches.. It held up a long while though but once I tightened up the slipper it was all over red rover. Keep on rockin mate 🤙 Hey interesting note about the camera too, I had just taken possession of a new DJI camera (of sorts 😉) too, so good to know I better keep my nose on it!!! These batteries are a modern miracle but they can also be the bane of the RC enthusiast existence if we are not careful.

YO ! avo mate , how goes it down yonder ! Ah man get one of these pinions for sure , i belive there same material as the spur so should stop that happening again dude. Did you record the launches bud on the outcast really want to see some footage ???? Yes buddy , i dont think this is a common issue mind with the DJI cameras as the lady i spoke to had not heard of it happening before and i could not find much information online either so fingers crossed bud youll be OK , there a awesome camera , the only reason im going go pro is that they didn't have another DJI adventurer pack in stock as a direct replacement . As you say even with these camera batteries you do need to keep a watchful eye on them . Stay awesome dude . Chris :)

@@ChriswithaCrc yeh I will add that pinion to my list 100%. Yes I certainly did record it, never let an opportunity go wanting!! Just a matter of time before I get around to it! All in good time. I have a go pro 9, its been fantastic so I think you will be happy with it. It does chew through the batteries though, and they get pretty warm sometimes too. Not a huge issue but just something to be mindful of.

hiya mate great to see you have got this bad boy fixed but in my opinion i think arrma put the poor quality pinion gear in to make us as consumers to buy the upgraded pinion gear. look forward to seeing if the extra 2 teeth make it any more punchy. great video as always mate glad to see you tinkering again. hope you and the family are all well. peter anne and ella

Hey 👋 Peter , Yes I’m glad I got it back and running , as you said arrma for some reason put a cheaper alloy pinion along with a hardened steel spur , now fingers crossed best of both worlds with them both being made from the same metal . 2 more teeth should make it a lot 🤜 punchier for sure 👌 Just charging the batteries as we speak to get down and give it a run out so video incoming bud . Hope you and the family are all well Stay awesome 😎 Chris 🤙🇬🇧🤘🚀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Aren't you supposed to hold the pinion gear and make sure that the slipper clutch is slightly moving ? I am asking you because that is what I have seen from others and I don't know which method is the correct one !! I know Chris I ask too many questions
@ChriswithaCrc
@ChriswithaCrc 10 месяцев назад
Hey there George , What works for me is that tighten right up and then loosen off a quarter of a turn , works every time with my 3s and 4s trucks . And no buddy , please do ask questions . No such thing as bad questions , the only bad question is the one you didn't ask ! Stay awesome Chris :)

I don’t understand I jump mine off ramps all the time and don’t go easy on it. Only thing I’ve broken so far is a shock end. Maybe you got a bad batch outcast.

Hi Chris !!!! Does there seem to be a problem with ARRMA gearing or is it just me ? I believe that you had problems with both the Big Rock and the Mojave .
@ChriswithaCrc
@ChriswithaCrc 10 месяцев назад
Hey There George , Yes i agree the Pinion gears that come out of the factory do seem to be very poor quality to be honest . and then Arrma send you down the route of upgrading to a hardened pinon . Chris :)
