Arrma Typhon 6s "Truggified vs Hybrid Outcast Setup Explained" street style rip...

Decided to get my Truggified Typhon dialed in for some street fun for a bit. Have now finally upgraded to Voltage Hobbies shock towers on all 4 of my Arrmas. Perfect fit and finish and WAY stronger than stock. Didn't realize how bent my stock rear Typhon tower was until I had to pry it off the diff case...Lol. This video discusses the difference between a "Truggified" Typhon and my "Outcast Hybrid" with general setup info. Still get a ton of questions regarding both rigs and was hoping this vid would help clarify and provide some answers. My "Orange Darling" probably won't stay red for long. Props to Arrma for making such killer fun and versatile rigs!!!

This is why i always lean toward buggy or truggy rc. They are by far the most versatile. When you buy something like a monster truck or even something like a stampede, you get such a high vehicle ,that rolls over constantly and there's only so much you can do without seriously re-engineering it's design. Of course taller trucks have their place, but when you're serious and you've been doing hobby or see you for a long time you learn what you want, and what's the smart purchase. I started in the hobby in 1983 ,and although I've stopped periodically ,my tastes havent changed all that much. But right & You won't end up like one of those guys with 10 or more ready to run trucks sitting on shelves in his shed

I think when I get my collection complete I ultimately want a kraton and a typhon. While I would love to have a outcast I think I would rather have the typhon so I can have a buggy and switch to an outcast if I really wanted. Just so versatile. Kudos to arrma for doing things the way they do. It is a brand that I think is number one in the rtr bashing rigs. Thanks for this video brother

I now want a trugified typhon to add to my collection! Yesterday I was out bashing with my mt410 and kraton and came across a guy with a kraton as well. Out of the millions of people he was too a rich duperbash and korh subscriber. Love the channel and as far as I'm concerned I don't see how you only have 800 subs... you have some of the best videos and should have thousands of subs. Love the content and keep it up rich. I will continue to spread the word bro!

Awesome stuff man! Good to see them side by side and what's needed to build these beasts 👌👍 really wish arrma would sort out some realistic UK stock!!! I just can't justify the shipping cost and waiting for parts, im too impatient 😂 can't really blame arrma though, there's loads of decent rc's we can't get!! I guess rc just isn't popular enough here! I've always run a fan on that 2200kv castle motor, even gets hot in the lightweight slash without one. Rich Duperbash Yeah Rich I recall your prior passion for dirt bikes....me too ! I rode for years & raced enduro. Always thought I might have a gas or nitro RC.... But just not really practical for what I enjoy doing with RC. A mate I used to ride with in Western Australia carved a career for himself in dirt bikes, and has become somewhat famous making short movies. Here's one of his all time most watched... And the KTM300 was my last bike. Anyway.... Slightly off topic but great memories 👍 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--cwImtQw3WA.html

8:24 how hot was your battery? although not the same car i had motor and esc temps like that yesterday when it was 90+ degrees out and my lipo (hard case) was at 145. also put the temp gun right up to what your measuring. the signal or whatever come out of the gun in a cone shape, the further away you are the more things its taking the temp of.

I can't recall how hot my Lipo was 🤔. Vid is almost 5 years old. Lipos past 135F is getting toasty 👀. Likely shortens the packs useful life, ability to balance, and increases IR or internal resistance. 🍻

@richduperbash2966

The ring and pinion are different between the Typhon and Kraton/Outcast/Talion. Typhon uses straight cut 13T input/pinion and 43T crown/ring gears. Kraton uses 10T and 43T spiral cut gears. 🍻😎💪👊👊

My typhon is set up like this but still using buggy tyres as I've no idea what to use. I see you use the mx2.8 but every proline tyre I buy just gets shredded and I find myself going back to cheap Amazon specials all the time. Any tips for the tyres. Or is gorilla tape all you used?
@richduperbash2966
@richduperbash2966 5 лет назад
You really have to either tape or braid the MX28's or Trencher 2.8s as well as vent them to control ballooning. Another option to consider is the new Proline MX buggy wheels. They have big lugs similar to the MX28's, come vented, and use closed cell foams. Definitely better for mixed bashing than traditional buggy wheels. 😎💪👊👊

@@shaggysgcanimal I'm regretting buying my Belted Trencher 2.8s 😬. Like I mentioned in my last Typhon vid, just too heavy and bouncy. The weak plastic hexes are the biggest drawback in my mind. Hopefully Proline will improve the design. The concept is great though. 😎💪👊👊

Willim Smart thanks so much brother, really appreciate it. Yeah I LOVE the Arrma Forum and was also a 70/60 guy before, but it's honestly better to have easier chassis slap and break less shock parts especially with Tekno Oranges in front and Yellow in the back. Nice explanation! I always knew what you meant about the outkast hybrid but never really knew what you meant by a trugified Typhon. I actually thought you meant that you put Kraton arms on it lol! Love the street driving 👍👍👍 I do lots of street driving myself. I do have a suggestion for you. If you want to maintain your gearing and switch from off road to onroad the SRC road crushers will accomplish that for you. They are about the same size as a truggy tire but are wider and belted for the street. I actually went through a set using it on my Talion and MT410. You have probably already seen those tires though, lol!!
@richduperbash2966
@richduperbash2966 6 лет назад
Aaron Weycker thanks so much brother!!! I'm hoping this vid helps clarify the terminology somewhat cuz lots of people ask me the same questions...Lol😲. Once I started bashing my Hybrid, it got even more confusing I think. Perception is a funny thing, especially through a GoPro lense I think. I have a set of SRC Terrain Crushers that I use pretty regularly on road, especially to help get my rigs tuned and dialed in. Went with those cuz the reviews were a bit better than the Road Crushers and I wanted to do some mixed bashing with them. Appreciate the suggestion brother. I have too many damn wheels now...Lol. 🙋🙋😰😨😱😲😲😲😵😎💪👊👊

Does the outcast battery tray fit in the v2 Typhon as is or did you have to modify something? I really hate the v2's battery tray!
@richduperbash2966
@richduperbash2966 6 лет назад
Robert Furlong the Outcast battery tray uses the same screws and set posts, but the rear ones are about 1" closer to the fronts in total span. If your chassis doesn't have extra holes for the battery tray, you'll have to drill them. I did this to 3 of my Arrmas. The Outcast battery tray is way more protective no doubt. 🍻🤘🤘😎💪👊👊

Hey buddy, really appreciate you clarifying things for me on the subject of the TT vs Outcast hybrid. I've watched the vid a few times now and I'm just looking to confirm that besides the kraton or outcast stearing blocks and hex's... I also would need to buy/borrow from other rigs an outcast or kraton front & rear axles? Also going to need some decent offroad tires/all terrain tires and would love to have my new in box typhon setup as you do for both street as well as an offroad beast basher. Anyways I was about to buy the whole drivetrain off ebay when I realized it may not be necessary to buy more than the front/rear dogbones and cups, am I correct on that ? Lastly I'm sure looking for your input on replacement hardware and whether or not to simply replace ALOT of my original outcast hardware that's worn or damaged by myself prior to getting decent metric hex tools. So any info or tips on what seems like a straightforward job until I got to overthinking things lol and have since read very different specs to the basic TRUGGIFIED mod specs since. Thanks in advance brother and I genuinely appr all your efforts to helps some new Jack's like myself with all your knowledge and tips that sure is an enormous help to us all in the basher/arrma community. Owe you 1000 times over brother! Hope you can find the time but if not no hard feelings... bash on buddy!

kjd15328va to "Truggify" a Typhon, you only swap for V2 Kraton hubs, hexs, and axels. I'm not 100% certain about the new V3 hubs. I'm thinking they added some plastic reinforcement, but think the length dimensions are the same between V2 and V3. Otherwise they would've had to change the axels. Just realize V1 Kraton hubs and hexes don't jive with V2/V3 stuff. They still sell V1 stuff so be careful if you go to buy stuff.😎💪👊👊

I'm excited about the TLR Typhon 4sure 😱 I feel like it will sit nicely in feel between the 6s and 3s Typhon. May have a slightly lighter feel than the 6s. My Losi Tenacity DB Pro is one of my all time favorites. Losi rigs always seem to hit or miss.

Timothée Liens yes you can Truggify it. The Senton has shorter A arms than the Typhon though I believe. Pretty sure Stewdog Stew Truggified his and Dubbl-A on the Arrma Forum also. I'd double check with them on what they did. Many simply add hex adapters to widen the stance and receive 2.8 wheels.🙋🙋😱😲😲😲😵😎💪👊👊

Hey Rich! I got a typhon v2 that I think I have everything to make it into a outcast hybrid. I basically have everything from a kraton. Arms, hubs, hexes, links, dogbones and cvds. I also have kraton shock towers and shocks. Is that all that's necessary to convert my typhon over?
@richduperbash2966
@richduperbash2966 6 лет назад
poo butt sounds like you have it all covered 😂!!! If you have an assembled Kraton, you could literally just swap the entire front and rear end as a unit onto the Typhon chassis to make an Outcast Hybrid 👊. Just need to adjust body mounts for the Typhon body to work. I had to Dremel the rear body of mine at the stock holes cuz the span is wider on the Kraton tower and mounts. 🍻🤘🤘😵😵😵😎💪👊👊

@@richduperbash2966 thanks for getting back to me homie! All the parts are loose so I'm gathering it all up and trying to picture it in my head. How about the diffs? poo butt the Outcast Hybrid needs spiral cut gears for sure 👊. You definitely want 3.8 wheels both for size and to pair with the smaller 10T spiral input gear. It takes a bit longer building by parts, but it's fun and worthwhile in the end. 🤘🤘

poo butt the rear only has camber adjustment via the camber links. I'd double check you put all the little plastic spacers in at the hubs where the outer hinge pins go. The rear should have some toe in by design. The front is more stable with some toe out. Hope this helps.😎💪👊👊

@richduperbash2966
@richduperbash2966 6 лет назад
Jay Jay not sure if it's "worth it" persay cuz the stock system is very strong IMHO. I already had the 1515 2200kv Castle motor with the Sidewinder 8th combo I borrowed from my Backslash. I bought the Mamba Monster X ESC after my stock BLX185 crapped out. It definitely puts the power down. Not sure if it's the high rated internal BEC or what, but it's noticable. I normally only run 4s now when running the Truggified off road. 6s was barely drivable and shredded my MX28 despite being taped. I'm a fan of the stock electronics and feel Castle stuff is generally overpriced, but this X is a nice ESC no doubt.🙋🙋😱😨😵😵😵😲😎💪👊👊

The Truggified Typhon just has Outcast hexs, hubs, and stub axels to make it about an inch wider and allow for 2.8 wheels. It keeps the stock control arms, links, and driveshafts. The Outcast Hybrid maintains the Outcast arms...etc. 😎💪👊👊

The motor temps seem high. What is your preferred temp to not exceed?
@richduperbash2966
@richduperbash2966 6 лет назад
Seth J. Lamb my motor definitely got toasty, but I wasn't surprised. Running a 19 tooth pinion with hard throttle/hard braking at high RPMs with lots of wheel spin does it usually after just a few minutes without a cooling off period anyways. I generally try not to exceed 170F. Usually gear my rigs, for bashing anyhow, to about 150-160F tops. Any hotter and you start losing efficiency/power. Much cooler, you're not getting the most out of the system IMHO. Guys that run high torque, long can motors on higher voltage is a different story. They tend to run much cooler for long periods, but there's a big weight penalty with that for doing bigger airs, too. I try to run smaller 6s packs for this reason. Lighter is quicker and usually means less breakages, especially when things go bad...Lol!!!😎💪👊👊
@SethJLamb
@SethJLamb 6 лет назад
Rich Duperbash totally get it. I have my MT set to notify me when i hit 170 degrees. I’m installing a cooling fan to add some help. Just also traded my Nero for a Kraton, so when that’s up and running, I’ll do the same. I run small battery packs too. I was always told to run 1 battery vs 2. So I have some small 4500 6s packs from smc. Got them on sale. Cheapest price per MAH in 6s.
@richduperbash2966
@richduperbash2966 6 лет назад
Seth J. Lamb great trade!!! The Kraton breaks WAY less than the Nero and is way easier to work on from everything I've heard on the Forum and elsewhere. Those 4500 SMC packs are AWESOME!!! Just bought 2 more Basher 6s 4000mah today cuz they're only 47$ right now with no tax or shipping from Hobbyking. I had 2 already but dropped one in my garage when a carry container flipped, landed hard on a corner, cracked the case and ultimately lost a cell😨😲😥. I was so pissed...Lol!!! It couldn't have landed any worse. Only had a few runs with it at most. That's good you watch your temps carefully. Some don't even bother, but that's just crazy to me...Lol.😎💪👊👊
@SethJLamb
@SethJLamb 6 лет назад
Rich Duperbash yea. I literally broke the nero every time I used it. On park run and such, it was fast and fun, but anytime I went to the bmx track, I broke it every time. Just too heavy of a vehicle. I jumped at the chance to trade it for a hooked up Kraton. Much easier to work on for sure. I wanted to ask you, how tight do you keep the suspension on the Typhon for it to drift? I run them on my Hyper TT and that thing will just reaction roll and flip all the time.
@richduperbash2966
@richduperbash2966 6 лет назад
Seth J. Lamb sorry brother, I'm missing notifications on some messages??? I don't change my suspension setup from dirt to street. I run arms level all the time with spring preload collars. Could be the tire compound and wheel stance/width you're running. I literally can't flip my Truggified running these G-locs. They do controlled slides with throttle inputs/steering adjustments. You might consider a wider street tire and hex extenders. When I said "gocart" style, I wasn't kidding with these wheels...Lol. They are ribbed internally with blue foams. They balloon a tad at high speeds, only momentarily while on hard throttle, and are very firm otherwise. Glad you traded out the Nero. They seem to break regularly.😎💪👊👊

Christopher Bates the Truggified Typhon is just a 1" wider Typhon after swapping for Kraton hubs, hexs, and stub axels. Allows for 2.8 size 17mm hex wheels to fit without rubbing the stock rear hubs. Still uses stock towers, arms, and driveshafts. You disassemble the front CVDs and replace the Typhon stub axel with the longer Kraton ones.
