Same situation with that half marathon in China a few months ago... Where one of the African runners (covert pacers) were literally gesturing to the Chinese guy to take first place
@user-qb9fv3bf2d I would not be surprised looking at the way it unfolded he showed whoever that he could win and that he was d3liberatly throwing the race which should see this thing get a very very long ban if not lifetime ban.
This was a heat. It literally doesn't matter who wins in the heats. He was trying to save energy for the finals, but he missed qualification by one spot because he miscalculated how much he could ease up.
For those pathetic individuals saying this is kids is under 18 and is not the Olympics open your eyes it is a TEAM GB suit and if a piece of gatprbage is going to act like this did it needs banning and let a kid who will make the effort have the place. This thing has earned a ban a very very long ban it was not just disrespectful to the whole team but to 3very athlete on that start line and the the athletics meet. Stop making excuses for a piece of garbage and start showing respect to thise who desrve it and have earned it which this thing has not.
For whatever reason, he made a statement by allowing the other runners to pass him. He didn’t just slow down, he purposely allowed them to pass him. I would be interested to see what his motive was.
These were qualifications. He had already qualified. I dont know the exact specifics or why he was racing, but that's what happened. He took 4th and let an extra guy get a chance.
@tylerevans5551 Except that it's not an extra person, is it? If the top 4 qualify, then it's 3 others regardless of whether he finishes first or fourth.
I'm pretty sure you can't bet on a amateur athletics meet. May be wrong though. I think he just thought he had the race in the bag and thought he had a lot more distance from the other kids
I used to get up early on Saturdays, put my uniform on, run into my brothers room telling him we're late, by the time he got home I was changed and watching cartoons, he gave me a good hiding every time but it was so worth it 😂
I don't think this was necessarily rigged. I think he was just sooo convinced of his own superiority he thought he could afford to do a Usain Bolt and misjudged it.
He was interviewed about and didn’t even say why he did it. As someone that used to run these meets I can’t think of anything other than he did this on purpose.
@@themilosh895His only job is this. He's professional enough to not make an error even a rookie wouldn't. Would be like a tennis pro calling a shot in that was actually 3 feet out of play and it being a gamebreaking point. Likely insider betting, and the end of his career due to it.
Hmm…I don’t want my family buried alive underneath the foundation of an apartment building…but I ALSO don’t want these fools thinking I ain’t got wheels….🤔
Someone didn’t want him to win but he did it like this for a reason. He was t discrete. It’s almost like he wanted the world to realize what was happening
When questioned about it, he remained silent regarding his motivations. I used to run these meets, so the only explanation I can think of is that he did this on purpose.
I thought that by the look on his face, while the announcement at the race. He was definitely making a point...whatever it was, would be nice to know what was worth throwing his future in running down the drain. Don't you think?
Nope it wasn't. "..it is my fault, so I cannot be sad about anything but myself" JOJ He made a mistake. He is 16 FFS, and a real talent. He just has to work out which line is important.
@KiwisDownUnder unfortunately you can't put an old head on young shoulders. He had to say it was an error and mistake because saying" I'm a super arrogant American athlete" just won't fly.
Yeah its very bizarre maybe he pulled a muscle or something. All that looking around made it seem like he was checking to see if he gad done enough to still win while
Only once did I know of a race that was "fixed". They let a girl come in first in her division after they found out that her Father passed away the week prior. She wasn't going to race, but when she showed up. She did it for her Father. They didn't do it on purpose, They other girls just ran beside and gave her encouragement to keep running. So, she did win the the end. Im so glad the news didn't report on it.
But there isn't betting on HS, or the vast majority of college races though so nobody in that scenario did anything wrong. An event being "fixed" only matters if it was fixed for the purpose of gamblers winning money.
In the Military, we have sports events each year. One of the COs was supposed to post out at the end of the year and during one of these sports events, we were told to do our best to ensure that his battalion wins. We had to give his battalion full points for best cheer because the other battalions were doing well for the sports side of the house.
Qualifying race. He already had his qualification to move on winning didn’t matter. In fact he was being nice by allowing a person nor two to qualify who who wouldn’t had he won.
@@jericf5935 There is betting on anything and everything! Wake man, couldn’t you see how he looked around both ways to make sure what place he would finish!!??
Best PR stunt ever. None of us would have cared about some u18 european athletics race, but pull a move like this, and suddenly you are world famous, ok albeit for looking a donut, but, hes clearly got loads of talent as was smashing the opposition, his name is now out there.
@@anathema2me4EVR so he only hurt himself and a ban of a year or two would already be an fair punishment. No idea if athletic scholarships are a thing in UK but it would mean he is not eligible for one.
What you on about forrest? He reacted when he the guy on the left pass him, then realise it's too late and just relaxed back again.. in short, his ego got him.
Weird that it hasn't been investigated. Even after the race, he didn't address why he did it. Why have the authorities not looked into it? Could've involved millions in gambling.
This runner was already qualified, he wanted others to qualify since he was already in. It’s actually wholesome, this is junior track, no betting allowed on junior olympics sanctioned events.
If that's the case then it would be regardless if he came first, if there are a set number of spots and one guy takes first in all the qualifiers then they will just take the next guy down the line to fill the set slots
No that is a lie. He didn't qualify. As he himself stated in an interview he "lost concentration". It looked more intentional than that and i would suspect gambling was involved. At least worth investigating.
There is no betting allowed on a lot of things, and people still bet on them. Like that's going to stop anyone. But, this guy just got confused, plain and simple. He not the only runner to do this. Just search RU-vid and you will see.
Guys he was already qualified for the race.. so he just paved a way for others to be in as well.. a selfless act completely.. But I’m shocked how everybody is just continuously mocking him without knowing a thing
@@sheelfjohnsonIt would allow another runner to automatically qualify by getting first. I’m not sure of how many 200m heats there was at this event but let’s say two to make it simple. Two heats running to qualify for the final 200m. Typically, the 1st and 2nd place in each heat would advance automatically. Then, the next 2 fastest runners from each heat. This helps to keep it somewhat fair since some heats will be faster than others. This would total 8 runners for the final. This sprinter may have been easing up to allow 2 sprinters the chance to go through if he had already qualified. I’m guessing this may have been a repechage heat so he didn’t need to win to advance?
He now more memorable than if he had one the race. Amazing PR stunt. I’m now on the look out for his next race and wouldn’t have been had this clip not gone viral
@@edju9968 I don't understand all these people saying "he already qualified". This is not how heats work. If you have 24 runners and only 8 lanes. Can't have them all run together. We need to cut the field down to 8. So we have 3 heats, with 8 runner in each. The top 2 in each heat goes to the final, plus the 2 fastest finishers of the rest of the field (or the 2 fastest of the 3rd place finishers, rules varies by competition, but would be clearly posted before the race). Notice one thing, each runner gets to run in only one heat. There is no situation possible where you are allowed a place in more than one heat, so that if you fail to qualify the first time, you get a second chance. That would be cheating and unfair. And nobody who has already qualified would get to run in subsequent heats either. If somebody pulls out from the subsequent heat because of injury, or their flight got delayed and they simply didn't show, then you run that heat with 7 or 6 runners. You don't get other random people who already ran in previous heats to run in their place.
@@edju9968 There is no such thing as "already qualified". It is logically impossible. One person gets to run in one and only one heat. Nobody gets listed to run in more than one heat. If that happens, he would have multiple chances to qualify for the next round. That simple thing would be unfair and would amount to cheating by the organizers favouring him by scheduling the heats in that way.
I can't believe how you wrote the tagline! Arrogant runner's bizarre act? Arrogant? He did it like that for a reason! To show how the games are fixed! He deserves a medal for shining a white hot spot light on the games!
@@edju9968 no such thing. Each runner gets one and only one qualifying race. Nobody gets more than one chance to qualify. THAT would be cheating, with the help of the organizer who allow you more than one chance. Anybody did that, the international federation will ban the whole org. It is even dumber than throwing a race so obviously as this.
