Love Billy Wilder as well and even when he did such great writing with Charles Brackett back in his early career. I think you will like The Major and The Minor it is light escapist entertainment and I feel Ginger pulls it off playing a child. One of my favorite Anthony Mann films is The Naked Spur and do not know if you saw that one yet. Pretty much follows that same ongoing movie formula with Jimmy Stewart. Looking forward to hearing your review of Model Shop, I love Demy(especially his musicals) too and this movie is a very 60's type independent movie and a bit of a departure for him. Almost his own version of a French New Wave film with an American twist. Again wonderful suggestions and video and now on to 5,000 subscribers.

Hi Elliot! Great video! The crazy thing for me in regards to shipping times was receiving a package here in the states from Indicator in TWO DAYS!!! I was absolutely beside myself when the package arrived. I also picked up "The Far Country" and watched it in the last month or two. It isn't a top tier western, but it is certainly one I will come back to again. I should also note that I watched it near the end of a 24-hour movie marathon I did. So, the exhaustion of having watched so many films could have come into play as well. Haha! Stay safe and healthy, my friend.

It was all Second Run for me from Arrow this time. Made a big dent in my collection there with 13 titles. Really excited to make my way through them. Of yours, I’ve seen Curling and Journey to... and I liked both of them immensely. It would be easy to go back in straight away and pick up some more but like you, the watchlist is out of control! Thanks for the pickup update. Never too many videos! 😀👍

Other Second Run titles I'd recommend are anything by director Milos Foreman, as he was the director of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Other titles of his are two charming Czech comedies called Fireman's Ball and Closely Observed Trains. Other Second Run titles I recommend are The Ear, Witchhammer, The Shop on the High Street, Ikarie XB 1, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, The Miraculous Virgin, and one japanese documentary that's extremely confrontational and intense called The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On.

Thanks for drawing attention to the sale. There are quite a few titles out of stock which is a bit frustrating but I've ordered Cinema Paradiso and The Andromeda Strain - two films I haven't watched for ages but which I really need to see again. If the Extras are as good as they look, then £7.50 each is a great price. Looking forward to receiving them!

Elliot, thank you for reminding me of Miklos Jancso. I saw some of his early movies, eg The Roundup and Red Psalm, and they are unique cinematic experiences featuring fluid takes and superbly choreographed scenes, which flow across the open Hungarian Plains. Now you have told me about Second Run and there they are, so what a find! I have a book called "Produced and Abandoned" where film makers talk about films that slipped under the radar. One chapter was entitled "I Found it at the Nudies" and this was "Lola", presumably because of the title, relegated to a cinema playing soft porn. What a fate, but at least he caught it and appreciated it.
@alexlehmann7696

"The Naked Spur" is my favourite Anthony Mann western, it desperately needs a proper release! All of the Stewart/Mann westerns are great. Nice shout out to Second Run, I love Jancsos films, in particular "The Round-Up" and "The Red and the White". My order with the re-issued noir set and "Eight Hours Don't Make a Day" is on the way.
@WolfGratz
@WolfGratz 4 года назад
Naked Spur is also my favourite - and Robert Ryan in particular is excellent. But I also love The Far Country which arguably has Jimmy is one of his most unlikable roles and again includes great support from the very affable villain John McIntire who unfortunately entirely forfeits my grudging sympathy just before the end. It also has Walter Brennan and Jay C Flippen dong their stuff along with other favourite supporting actors. I will admit though I found Corinne Calvert annoying, even without that woolly hat. I much preferred Ruth Romain.

@@WolfGratz Yeah, I have them all on DVD, and a region 1 import of "The Naked Spur", which will do for now until someone does a proper release. Not sure about the licensing, but something akin to the Indicator Scott/Boetticher would send med over the moon. Jimmy really nails the anti-hero in these films. Underrated collaboration.

Great video and amazing pickups! I myself have kind of become a huge patron of Arrow this month since the sale coincided with my birthday and everything so I have been buying tons of Arrow titles. In the sale I went and supported my local HMV and picked up Branded to Kill and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. Then through various other means (some gifts, some gifts from myself to myself haha) I got: The Long Goodbye Dekalog Cinema of Conflict Kieslowski Boxset Akio Jissoji's Buddhist Trilogy Boxset Then currently in the post I took the plunge and and got the OOP Kiju Yoshida's Anarchist Trilogy boxset. Then finally, I pre ordered the upcoming Alejandro Jodorowsky Boxset. So Arrow is very much on my mind and in my wallet at the moment. Again brilliant video and amazing pickups yourself! :)

Nice! Love them collection and haul videos. Doberman Cop has been on sale before, not sure whats their system for selecting the sale items is. I did look at the Second Run titles as you have praised them before, but could not find a single title I would of liked to risk it. So I went with the other label they are also distributing Third Window. Their selection is much more my taste. In the end managed to find a couple of items (OK maybe 18) that I wanted for my collection.

I ordered a bunch of films by Shinya Tsukamoto the day before the sale, unaware of course that there would be a sale on the very same films the day after. Bad timing, but that's how it is! In any case, I did order some more Japanese films that were on sale some days later. The films I ordered on sale include from Teruo Ishii, Takashi Miike and Seijun Suzuki. The films from Ishii were all 'blind buys' (I haven't seen any film from this director before) while as I haven't seen the ones I ordered from Suzuki or Miike either, I have seen others from these particular directors. In total I ordered fifteen films, including two boxsets with three and five films respectfully (Suzuki's 'The Taisho Trilogy' boxset, and Yasuharu Hasebe's 'Stray Cat Collection') Hasebe is also a 'blind buy' on my end, as I don't believe I've seen any of his films before, either. But I'm a fan of Meiko Kaji, so I feel like I need to watch more films with her :) Hope you have a nice day, Elliot, and anyone reading this!

Notification for this video came through just as I was checking out from my small scale raid on Arrow's sale. Spooky! From them I bought the Sacha Guitry: Four Films 1936-38 set (which I had just last week purchased from a marketplace seller on Amazon. Irritatingly though, it had somehow been exposed to water and the bottom of the booklet was damp affected. They were quick to refund though, and Arrow were cheaper for a replacement, so all's good). Next is the Poetic Trilogy from Mohsen Makhmalbaf, just because.... as you said when you picked it out from the shelves on another video. Such releases deserve support. Finally, a pair of Second Run titles; Daisies (which is flagged as limited availability, so fingers crossed on that one) and The Ear I would have bought more but the rest of my ready cash went on two ebay purchases; "brand new and sealed" copies of Arrow's Der Todesking and Blood Bath limited editions. The last copies in both cases.

Hey Elliot, I have a serious question for you: I've been looking into Arrow, Eurika, and Kino brand Blu-Rays, but their websites don't mention anything about the "Region Code" of the Blu-Ray player. I know they're all listed in pounds, so my thinking is that if I order from them they'll come and I won't be able to play them (I am in the US, region 1/A). I think Kino is fine because their website lists it in US dollars. Arrow says all their videos are region B when I click on the details of their products. And Eurika doesn't specify at all, but they're listed in pounds as well. If I order something from their website, can I specify the region, or are they restricted to only catering to those who live in the UK or have the means to play their discs? Obviously I have no trouble with Criterion, but what about the others? I can't find these labels in the stores, so I'm willing to order them directly, but I'm hesitant for this reason. Any thoughts/insights you can give?
@ElliotCoen
@ElliotCoen 4 года назад
Hi Kevin. So, I know that Arrow and Eureka make all of their discs region B at least, and sometimes include other regions. As long as you have a player capable of playing region B discs, you should be confident purchasing any film released here in the UK. I know that Arrow and Eureka both ship internationally from their websites, so you should have no problem purchasing. Zavvi also ship internationally and you can buy Arrow and Eureka films through them. I hope this helps. Cheers!

It's also part of a trilogy of films focusing on the handover of Hong Kong to China. "Made in Hong Kong" is great but "Little Cheung", the third movie, is the little-seen masterpiece. Hope the whole trilogy comes to bluray.

Hey man. Great haul. I'm not the biggest fan of american westerns. I'm more of a spaghetti western film guy. Most of the films you have i don't know and have never seen.

I do have a soft spot for spaghetti westerns too! Once Upon a Time in the West is probably my favourite. Cheers for watching, my friend :)
