I have all the Shout Factory 4Ks, plus the blu-ray of Living with Chucky, Season 1 and 2 of the TV series (I've preordered Season 3), and the 4K of the remake. I prefer box sets, but not enough to double-dip for the Arrow box.
They are the same transfers lol it's only the first film being 4K in America and the unrated Cut of Seed being in 4K in UK that are the only differences
I have the blue Arrow exclusive 4k boxset. I still want the yellow one as well. I have Scream Factory 4k Child's Play and slowly want the rest of the SF 4k editions.
I would usually always choose Arrow over Shout, but I just think that Arrow artwork is terrible. Just terrible. I have the original 4K and will probably grab Bride, otherwise I’m probably fine with my blu-ray versions. Anyway, just my thoughts!
Funny fact about the seed of Chucky if you by the basic 7 movie blu ray set it only includes the uncut version and not the theatrical so as I’m buying a couple Chucky 4k’s a month when I get The Seed 4k I know to swap the case so I can stick my blu ray from that set into the same case for completion😅
unless there is a bonus disc with Child's Play 1 Idk about then no the special features are NOT the same... there are a couple things the Shout one is missing but a ton the MGM disc doesn't have
Great overview. One small difference: some of the Arrow versions have minor special features that aren't on the Shout Factories. For instance, the Arrow release of Bride of Chucky (I think that's the one) includes a video introduction by Jennifer Tilly, and many other discs include storyboard galleries that aren't on the SF releases. Not significant enough to sway my decision, but worth mentioning for completists.
I'm glad I gave my knowledge to help out with this video. It has too many flaws for me to pick it up. Being from the UK I wish they'd of given just a little bit more tlc to this set.
Mentioned elsewhere, but i'm a HUGE Arrow Video fanboy, so for me, the Arrow 4K set (blue box variant) was an absolute must for me, with the Shout! 4Ks of the original (the steelbook in question) and remake of Child's Play to augment it. I know the artwork of the Arrow set could be better, but with Arrow & Fidelity in Motion, you are getting absolute quality with the actual discs.
I only like childs play 1-3 so obviously scream factor is the better choice for me even if i was a childs play/chucky fan I would still choose scream factory I hate boxsets that don't have their own cases.
I bought the Arrow 4k box set as well as the original Child's Play on 4k from Shout. Badaboom badabing! I really love all of the artwork for these sets. I especially love the Arrow artwork as it shows that they were really paying attention and attempted to make the set 'Good Guy' themed. Kudos!
I nabbed the OOP Best Buy 4K steelbook of the first Child's Play, got the blue box variant of Arrow's 4K set and the 4K of the remake. Just need the TV show now.
I wanted the Shout Factory ones for the Alternate Slipcovers with better Artwork and the first film the best one being in 4K but I settled for the Arrow boxset because the Scream Factory ones now go for stupid money on Ebay
I bought the box set just because it was a box set. LOL I did get the SF 4K of the original though. I rewatched my video (because I couldn't remember lol) and it looks like my book fit just fine. I did hear about those issues though.
I got lucky and so did you by the looks of it. I’ve seen a few horror stories about the arrow boxset being misaligned and the book not fitting in the box properly and also having missing pages. I and I assume you Christian didn’t have those issues but plenty of people did. I like the arrow set but I think the packaging art should’ve been a lot better. It seems to me that arrow totally rushed the set out and didn’t give much of a shit about it. Keith at euphoria pictures posted a good video highlighting the major flaws with his set. It’s nuts that arrow allowed this to happen, especially a big horror franchise like Chucky.
Living with Chucky is Region B even in the 4K set so you definitely need the ScreamBox Blu-ray release. Child's Play is Region Free From my understanding the lack of new bonus features is because the head of SF is now working with Arrow Video so he just took what he worked on. I actually got the first 3 on 4K from Scream Factory. When Bride -Cult was announced I noticed there weren't really a whole lot of new features and already had Curse & Cult on Blu-ray with Bride on a DVD. So I didn't bother to get those for that reason. Plus the cost was just insane for 4 of the mostly mediocre films. When Arrow Video announced their box set and you got 7 films (8 discs) for the same price as the 4 films I jumped on it. The main draw was getting the booklet and being able to complete my collection with all 4K's. Now the plus side for getting the Scream Factory & ScreamBox releases is you get the 4K and Blu-ray release and as you stated Child's Play has 2-3 discs (depending on format) vs the 1 MGM 2012 disc Arrow has. You also at least at first got better covers and posters for all the films. The plus side with Arrow is you get them all for a cheaper price with only 1 Region Locked disc if it's the 4K set and a great booklet. I think what happened with Child's Play is Arrow Video bought a bunch of MGM disc like Scream Factory did with Freddy vs Jason, Jason X & the Rob Zombie Halloween films
The MGM discs do have a new label so they had to be pressed by them. When scream factory bought the discs they had the same label as the store bought ones
I would think it would be cheaper to wait for a deal on the arrow set than buying all the individual titles from shout. I also really like the look of the arrow set. The shout slips are nice but probably sold out by now.
Why would it? Its really kinda seen as its own thing that has nothing to do with Chucky since its name is Buddi and has nothing to do with Charles Lee Ray
Seed of chucky is so damn bad. No cut of that movie is good imo. Seed is the worst in the franchise. Unfortunately for me the series is more in vain of seed.
While I love boxsets, I really didn't like the Arrow set at all. The artwork is atrocious and the first film doesn't come on 4K though that probably isn't Arrows fault but still. I also don't like the booklet packaging that the discs are housed in. I think Scream Factory won this one but I like that those in the UK that don't want to import have a release for them.
I got all of the Scream Factory Chucky movies before Arrow released their box set. I wasn't disappointed. I'll be honest the boxset from Arrow is just....ugly. And I can't stand digipak like packaging. I might look into getting a custom box set for the series instead! As I do like Box sets, just not arrows artwork and style.
Scream factory versions in a Blockbuster Boxset are superior to Arrow's hands down. I love Arrow editions on just about everything but that Chucky set needed some more time to fine-tune
