Truly a remarkable first EDF. This should have been my first EDF. However, I went with the FMS Futura v2, which is FAST!! The Arrows Marlin 64mm is tuff as nails, fast (not Futura fast) and very easy to fly for an EDF. I agree and highly recommend this jet for anyone looking to make their way to EDFs. You won't regret the purchase. Great Sport Jet!! I fly with a 2700mAh and 3000mAh. However, my battery is in the front.
I'm 100% with you...Futura is a sweet plane, but goodness, would it scare the crap out of a first time EDF flier ;) Also, might spoil them for other EDF's!!!
I love my Marlin. It's a ton of fun. I painted mine with a neon lime green paint job because the factory paint scheme, which looks nice, makes it easy to loose sight of the plane. I agree that it flies better with a larger pack. I usually fly for 6 minutes on a 3300 4S pack. It was pretty obvious you were enjoying yourself in this video. LOL
Brian, you were on fire with this one. I was laughing my ao. Great second thoughts and it was fun to watch this plane too. Really fast. You nailed so many of those landings in that wind.

Well i flew the 70mm Viper, it was great, scary tip stalling tendacies. But, i flew it w/o AS3X,why, b/c the AS3X doed on my 64mm Marlin. I thought long and hard about it and decided to fly the Marlin w/o Stabilization. Almost no difference. So, i flew the Viper w/o Stabilization too. Besides I'm still using a 10 year old DX6, so i couldn't use an AR630 or 631. And i didn't have space enough for my Ar620 and my go to Hobby Eagle A3L. Took a while to learn to land w/o porpoising, but the Marlin was excellent at helping me learn jet landings. Neutral cg with a Roaring Top 6s 3700 70c @ 590g.
Yeah, hobbyeagle is a great gyro...but kinda pricey, right??? L3 might be cheaper? OR better yet, if you don't want to upgrade Tx, which I get, what about LemonRX - they're real nice too! bprc.me/LemonRX

I love the Marlin it's perfect, would you think I would be ready to fly the FMS/Roc-hobby 70mm Viper after flying the Marlin. I see a lot of videos on the Eflite 70mm viper w/safe but not the FMS version.
I have the FMS Viper it’s the same as the Eflite one but is blue/yellow and doesn’t have the RX in it. I run the AR 630 in it programmed with the file for the Eflite one. You could also just use the default AS3X setting when using the forward programming. It’s very close to the Eflite settings.
If you're comfortable with the Marlin and feel that you're ready to move up. Then go for it, dude! The Viper is a very stable and forgiving airframe. It'll just be significantly faster.

I have the one with out auto leveling to use in the 70mm Viper.I also just ordered today, the new Arrows 64mn F-86 Sabre, it comes Stock with the Vector Stabilizer. Gonna fly it and then the FMS Viper. I really got hooked fast on Arrows EDF'S, they are AWESOME!!
Hi Brain love your content, I was wondering if you could shed some light on installing a led cyclone light for the arrows Marlin. I have one and did an install at no avail. Not sure if I’m producing enough voltage but it says in the instructions 4 to 6 volts . The system is ran form esc coupled with the cyclone wire lead to a y harness strait to channel one throttle, pretty straight forward every thing works except for the lighting system. I’m running an AR 620 spectrum. Just a little frustrated. Hope you can share a video or some knowledge on this. The system mounts remarkably well and will look so cool if I can get it to work!! Okay, try THIS... Unhook the wires going to the ESC and land them on another channel. Can you get it to light? If not, you may need to RECALIBRATE your esc throttle range for that little dc esc. Try this.
Honestly Brain I have tried every configuration possible trying to get this thing to light and nothing, I have tested it through my spectrum battery checker and it lights and is working but all hooked up through my spectrum receiver and transmitter nothing. I’m at a lose , I’ve been messing with it for 3 days, trying everything. I think the signal is mixing up in spectrum and maybe not enough voltage through the receiver. It would be awesome if you could do a video if you can get it to work. It’s a 3 cyclone led I purchased it from brick city hobby ( cyclone power 3 color afterburner lighting system). Or maybe it just doesn’t work at all with the equipment I’m using. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks Brian / Matt / Veteran/USMC👍🏻
I have this one but something wrong with it. while flying the fan will just shut off and i'll have to throttle all the way down and back up for it to start working again. haven't flown it in 2 years because of this. can't really get to the ecu/wires to see what is causing it.
I have learned to drop my ear buds volume way down to a whisper just for those whoo whoo Woots !,, LOL. It might be a easy to fly EDF but it’s just down right ugly.

I lost it 8 years ago and became a couch potato until I started watching videos on rc airplanes I came across yours and started flying last year 🙂 my question for you is how do you set up that low voltage alarm for 3s and 4s batteries, I have 4 of these devices for my planes but do not know how to set them up please help if you can and tell the camera crew she is doing an amazing job! Awesome Marty! Glad to hear we encouraged you to get flying!!! As for the VOLTAGE ALARMS. The basic primes is pretty self explanatory, just plug the balance lead into the pins, so the NEGATIVE is on the NEGATIVE END (Wish they'd mark BOTH sides...so I usually mark them with polarity for quick and easy reference)....once plugged in they'll tell you each cell's voltage and then alarm when you're below the X.XX Volts DC... Mine have always been able to adjust from 2.7 - 3.8 VDC, thus you can run them at 3.3VDC on a prop plane, and maybe 3.6VDC on an EDF. The reason you might pick to run them HIGHER on the EDF, is that there's a larger demand on the battery, and I want at least a "go-around" worth of warning, AND EDF's are loud, so you run the risk of not hearing them alarm immediately, as you're more likely to hear on a prop plane. To set this setting, there's a small flat push button that's between the alarm horns, and you press it to advance through the loop of voltage choices. Give it a try! It will probably save a plane or possibly a battery or two!

I usually fly with my middle setting...100% rates / 20% Expo...but expo is highly subjective, and doesn't really "mean" anything, in my experience. My buddy, Esteban, flies with more, and I fly with less, so when I fly one of his planes, I'pll flip it down to a lower setting and then "back" to his mode when I hand the plane back over. I always fly in AS3X (or with some level of stabilization - I love the feeling of locked in), but only fly in SAFE for demonstration only, and I call this out so you can tell. I setup DR/Expo to the same on most every plane, and very occasionally I'll deviate to make a plane without stabilization fly a bit more tame.
@@BrianPhillipsRC it’s weird, when my dad got it for me as a birthday gift, I had never even flown a plane bigger than 500mm, much less a pnp jet. I messed up the wiring and the ailerons and flaps don’t work, I lost the screws for the elevator during a move and ended up having to hot glue it on, now I am a much more experienced pilot then I was back then and am looking into fixing it, since I saw you having so much fun with it, by the way why don’t you take your p51 June nite out again? I just had mine out and it was so much fun.
Hey there Brian Phillips I know you're a busy man but I need your Radio setup expertise I have a dx6e transmitter and I want to have a safe select switch for the 1.2 P-51D I'm maxed out on channels is it possible to Y harness flaps and gear to one Channel / switch.D Now I would have an open channel for safe select switch A Is this possible I have been taking off and Landing with take-off flaps all the time anyway so I thought gear could be mixed I contacted Horizon support and they never got back to me please help only if you can watch out for that eagle Killing Zone
Sorry for the slow reply, I hate when I realize I miss a question like this for a week!!!! You can for sure do this, and if the condition of SAFE/AS3X mode is backward from what you want, TRY GEAR channel. There's other tricks you can do, but the BEST way to enjoy these planes, once you establish you're HOOOKED, you need to get an NX8 or something with more channels so you're not hamstrung like this...you will be very happy when you get one. Even if you have to find someone upgrading, and get it used for $200-300 bucks??? I just want you to have the FULL experience. Good luck with your setup. It's not that hard, and you'll get it figured out.

Oh boy!!! Well, if you're in SAFE, the throttle will CUT to 0% when signal is lost, and the FAILSAFE should pretty much keep it flying more or less straight as an arrow. IF you were in AS3X, then it would just more or less fly in a pretty straight line, throttle would cut and then your plane would be a long, long, LONG ways away, in a generally straight path. Pass along our condolences to "your friend" ;)
If you want, you can program in a FAILSAFE setting where the rudder kicks and SAFE is active, and throttle is 0%, then the plane will more or less "land itself" when it spirals down to the ground...the trouble is, planes that get into this "linger" setting will often times do it in WIND, then they will sail and sail, and sail for miles...not an exaggeration.
If you can fly in Simulator, you can fly in real life, but be prepared...lots of room. GOOD WEATHER. Don't press yourself for time, and you'll be good. Don't do anything crazy for your first flights, and you'll be good to go. If you crash, just fix it and repeat. With time, you'll be surpassing my skills. You can do it!

Nice EDF but i hate it for now a fellow flyer did a mid air collision on my AR900 wing, the AR is now dead, but on a happy note it was a good reason to upgrade to AR Pro wing.....the Marlin was fixable
I too love blue, but it can disappear in the sky - there's one long time viewer who always complained about blue planes and it made me chuckle to myself every time I heard the complaint, but it is true ;) Blue blends, especially THIS particular blue. Thanks for being here with us!
We won't be working with MotionRC any time soon. I used to think they were pretty decent people, but now that I know the truth, I'm done with them. We've been perusing a working relationship with them for years, and all we ever got was radio silence. Now we find out that they've gone out of their way to hurt me and my family...yeah, I'm done singing their praises until I get a written apology, and a phone call from their president. Sorry Peter! I wish I had better (or nothing) to report ;(

Would you prefer the marlin or viper on 4s with a rudder? I like the specs of the marlin but the looks of the viper... ..decisions Also still think an aerobatics how to vid would be cool! I'm sure there's others out there who would agree 👍
@BrianPhillipsRC yea I ment the arrows viper with a rudder mod, however glad you ment the 70mm cuz im picking up a second hand viper today. Been looking for the right edf and found a good deal. Hopefully its as nice as it looks cuz its cheap. Wish me luck. Can't wait wait to fly it!
SAFE can always be assigned to channel 7, and doesnt require a slot on the receiver. So on this plane you can go 1)THR 2) AIL with a Y 3)ELE 4)RUD 5)FLAP or even give the Ailerons their own channels 2 and 6 without a Y. When you do your Plane Type in the transmitter just choose whether you want 2 Ail 1 Flap or 1 Ail 1 Flap then if you look at your Monitor screen it will tell you the exact order to plug things into the receiver.
You can use the top channel for AS3X / SAFE assignment. We do it in the Radio Setup. Please follow along that section, and you'll see how I do it. DX7 is SIMILAR...BUT not 100% sure how it will work, if you're firmware doesn't support FORWARD PROGRAMMING. Does you Tx allow for FORWARD PROGRAMMING????
