I’m not worried about Rashford’s form, just 1 year ago he had a 40 G/A season! He’s still only 26 and his profile would suit Arsenal a lot so I’m not worried about him for footballing reasons at all. But like you said, Man U would have to give us a decent price and he would have to cut his wages which both seem super unlikely.

My only issue with Rashford is that he will want to much money otherwise he will be a definite upgrade on Martinelli and on his day is unplayable. If Mikel can get the best out of him then he will definitely be one of those players who will be first on the team sheet.

Charles, what do you think of Karim Adeyemi from Dortmund. People say that Neto and Olise are injury prone,Nico asking high wages. Dortmund willing to sell the player, left footed and can play on either flank and forward. Much younger, on low wages and fits the profile that Arsenal needs. Hey Charles Have you heard anything about Michael Oliver and the conflict of interest story? Basically the summer of 2023 Michael Oliver and a 4 man PL ref team did a match in the UAE and the 4 of them got 20K each for the game. The league has ties to the City owner and their sporting director is the same lad that was paying off the refs in Barca for years. There are 4 big games that the ref team did this season. Our game with City when Kovatic should have been sent off for 2 horrible tackles 1 on Odegaard and the other on Kai The next was the Liverpool game with Doku kicking McAlister in the chest, the third was the FA cup semi final with Chelsea and the Grealish hand ball. I can't remember the 4th game but it's all too very cowinky dinky for me. Do you think there is any meat to the story or just conspiracy theory crap? Rashford could be a tremendous addition to Arsenal. There's nothing to say he wouldn't buy into the collective team effort. At his best he would potentially revitalize our left side (which needs strengthening) . The stumbling block would be price and wages as said.

Rashford finances concern me. Not just the huge salary that he’d earn but also the inevitable (and 100% fair) conversations that would have to happen with Saka, Odegaar, Rice etc to increase their own salary.

Interesting debate on Rashford. There are some things I think are overblown - 1. Work rate (and while he doesn’t press like Arsenal in Ten Hag’s system, he does a lot of unselfish and often unseen work to make key sprints in transition). It’s an adaptation to his game yes, but that’s true for almost all players Arsenal would sign. I think he could do the adaptation bit. 2. Off field stuff. He’s had a couple of big indiscretions. They’ve been amplified a bit because he’s at Utd. Overall he seems a great pro, I don’t think he is a party boy in general. However the things that remain against the move seem decisive - 1. Wages - and the repercussive impact when we’re doing the next contract with Saka, Saliba etc (which won’t be too far off). 2. Opportunity cost - I’m just not sure on the wisdom of using resources so heavily in that area when you already have Martinelli and Trossard - ESR can’t get a kick. He’s a different profile and may be a notch above the others at his best. He can also play through the middle but it’s clearly not his best position. It seems a lot to spend for a relatively small upgrade. And Martinelli won’t reach his potential at Arsenal if Rashford gets his minutes. 3. His track record of inconsistency. He had the great year in a contract year (22/23). In the two years either side he’s been a significant disappointment. I think whoever gets him may get a great first year - he’ll have it all to prove. Whether he is going to give you 3 very good to great seasons in a row… 21/22 is a concern in addition to this season. I’m sure there’s a viable theory that he’d be a better player in Arsenal’s environment than United’s. But tbh that’s going to be true of most players and most clubs. Arsenal could make it work, but I certainly think there would be better ways to spend the money, and wouldn’t do it myself.

Hi Charles, have you ever tried to collaborate with ‘Latte Firm’ or ‘The Different Knock’? Latte Firm does really good analysis of individual players linked to Arsenal and TDK does an analysis of arsenal as a team/club. Both genuinely brilliant and insightful.

I think the move is what he needs. Very clearly a player there, a change of scenery is sometimes all a player needs. That Utd side is horrendous, and Marcus takes the brunt of a large amount of the abuse. Our fans would get right behind him, he has a large English contingent so would settle in immediately and he provides immense versatility across the front 3 positions. I want this deal to happen, although if the fee is anything north of £70m I would rather look elsewhere. I can't personally see it happening but wouldn't be at all mad if it did.

If it's true that Arteta spoke to Rashford and is interested in signing him, he obviously would have some plan for how to utilize him. Rashford isn't the type of player worth taking a punt on to see if they can develop into a valuable squad member (like Vieira and Kiwior), he's a known quantity who you'd have a clear plan for. Mikel has also been very clear on bringing the right personalities into the club to cultivate a great atmosphere. I'd find it hard to believe he'd be interested in Rashford if he thought his disciplinary issues would be an issue at Arsenal, in a much better environment than Manchester United. Regardless, I don't think this story goes anywhere. He'd be much too expensive considering the other areas of the squad that need attention this summer.

Hi Charles, the player we need to take us to the next level is Leroy Sane. I can’t get it out my head, quality on both wings, I think he comes into our starting XI at LW and if Saka were to get injured then shifts over to RW effortlessly and Martinelli comes in… it makes so much sense to me, can you give me any reason why he should be #1 on the summer wish list??

Think Kimmich would be a great addition but only if zinchenko leaves. Similar profile although on the right don’t think we would get much benefit in having both of those in the squad

With all due respect, i don’t agree with the arguments against signing Rashford. I’d have him over Martinelli every day of the week. The fan base at his club has turned on him with such bile and hatred, he underperformed in a terrible team but was the main scapegoat. If Arteta thinks he can get a tune from him, who are we to disagree! Rashy and Saka on the wings would be formidable, i’m all for it.

We've been linked with him for a while now. Most wouldn't bet against Arteta getting him back to his best form if the interest is real and we end up signing him. He doesn't come across as a troublesome player and would surely buy into the project and team ethos. He needs to revatalise his career urgently.

Hello Charles. Would you say talent wise Rashford is better than Isaak? Personally I think with the right manager and a bit of discipline he would be world class off the left side. It’s a high risk, but also a high reward. I like Isaak but with his injury record, I’d rather risk on Rashford. If there is any chance to do this we should.

I understand the massive potential that Rashford offers, but for the enormous cost both in transfer fee and wages, combined with his questionable attitude, he’s just way too big of a risk. We can’t afford to make that kind of mistake at this point in the project. That money can be better spent elsewhere.

His pace, strength and finishing are all still in there somewhere and the strength of our culture and leadership group will settle him down and make him run for the team. Rashford signed a five year contract last summer and he’s on £325,000 a week. Just to give you some context, he currently earns more than the highest paid player at Arsenal. That’s Havertz who is on £280,000 a week. Rashford to Arsenal? Don’t make me laugh!

Hi Charles, We need to keep it simple if Edu get distracted and wastes time trying to buy Rashford, who will probably flop and a risk that may pollute our player's winning mentality. And waste further time on tapping into looking at Wonder Kids. We've done that already, we have our wonder kids and academy players, we don't need to invest more time and money into hopefuls. We need to be able beat Man City and the likes of Real Madrid to titles, we are not a top 6 or 4 side Charles, we are now a top 2, top 4 in the world side. Buying cheap hopefuls is playing it safe, we don't need to be safe we need to keep being ambitious, like when we signed Rice. If we don't win a league title soon or CL, not only it will frustrate our fans that go to games, it will also frustrate some of our top players. Remember Overmars, Petit and Anelka, they stayed for 2 seasons and left because we didn't just not win the league again in 99 and 2000, but we never came close to winning the CL and that's why they said they left. 👍👍⚽⚽

Hi Charles, for a while people have been talking about how Newcastle need to sell and as such we are linked with Isak and Bruno. Great. (It's important to acknowledge that they'd never sell both this Window and certainly not to the same Rival, so at best you would have to choose one.) But my question under these circumstances is this: Why aren't we 'ALL IN' for Sandro Tonali?!? With Havertz & jesus and limited money what we need more is MF. Yes? Sandro Tonali is a better MF Defender than Bruno and more readily wants to sit back in front of the CBs than be Box-to-Box. He is a much better passer from MF to Final-Third than Bruno. He is faster than Zubimendi -- and his month playing in Newcastle showed he is 100% able to destroy the best the Premier League can throw at him. Flat out-- he is a better DM than Bruno; he is a slightly better CM than Bruno; he's younger than both Bruno and Zubi. And if Newcastle HAVE to sell an asset, a big asset, they really DON'T want to be forced to sell Isak OR Bruno. And Tonali only had a few games there (where he was awesome) so the Toon-clowns won't be too hard out if they sell him. - W E Ray
