Kicks and head butts between vieira and Keane, followed by stam grabbing vieira by the throat yet no red cards. God I miss the good old days.... Arsenal v Man U was the best rivalry in football history.
Yeah Ashley, soft red cards are spoiling the beautiful game... We got a bunch of actors now... And once a Red card has been issued it changes the complex of the game
that time from 1997-2005, United vs Arsenal was the best rivalry ever....even more big than Barcelona vs Madrid....the fight between Keane vs Vieira are the best
keanw vs Vieira, no racism , no throwing dirt at each other’s name behind the camera. Just two passionate strong midfielders going head to head with brutal tackles and challenges like real man, immediately shakes it off and move on with the game without making a fuss. No hatred between the two just rivalry for the love of the games, love these two
you are right my friend, why did he need to say such a thing, is it because this friend is white and black, I wonder why racism issues come up when he becomes black, I don't understand why this is an insult to black people, I think even talking about it...😢
@@PantherAS123 it was better back then. What we have now is a very sanitised version. Generally bad atmospheres at games, lots of tourists, people on their phones all game, players falling over and feigning injury, lack of real rivalry e.t.c e.t.c
Classic Arsenal-United clash from the 90s. There was never a dull moment in those matches. A young Henry showing some great skills and Roy Keane showing what being captain of United was all about. We could do with someone like him today as Arsenal could do with another Viera.
I love watching these old United games. The 4 4 2 is so simple yet so effective, it's triangles and overlaps with pace on the ball and lots of forward runs
In late 90s 442 using 2 striker role number 9, in 2000s using 2 striker 1 as number 9 1 as number 10. Nowadays the number 10 usually not striker anymore but AM, the winger became striker. If you bring this old 442 to nowadays game its sooo outdated.
Have watched so many highlights of old games since coronavirus hit. Miss these days so much. Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a premier league game involving united with such intense rivalry and agro.
sane here, I think that a big difference between today's football and football 20 years ago is the lack of strong, prominent characters. this game is a perfect example, players such as Roy Keane and Patrick Viera are two big characters seen in this match. I don't mean that you have a strong character if you fight,(which they do in this match) but if you look at their careers they have something in common, they are both fierce and passionate leaders that are have a massive presense on the pitch.
Beckham so underrated! He’s involved in everything and some of those long balls no one can do! Watching all these old games you realise how good he was and he was so important in the treble season getting important goals and they were always worldies
@@jonathanbevins8204 Scholes wasn't underrated either. Jeez, anyone who says "underrated" about any of the team who won the Treble the previous season [98/99] is a halfwit
I love seeing Patrick Vieira doing his Bertie Big Bollocks hardman impression with Beckham, knocking him off the ball, all the Arsenal supporters cheering him...then twenty seconds later Keano scores the winner! Bahaha
I was at this game. Incredible to think it was 20 years ago. The atmosphere was electric. The hatred was not just the players, but the fans too. Great days for both clubs. I do miss Highbury.
I wasn't abusive. I was pointing out the absurdity of what you said. Don't take it personal, because the majority of people feel the way you do. Humans are hypocrites and full of, on the face of it, violent and aggressive urges. That's why football fans are so passionate. It's because they are acting out their tribal instincts. The excitement of battle (the football match), the glory of victory, and the hatred towards anyone outside the tribe (supporters of other football teams).@@user-kn8un4ru8p
Beckham was an absolutely fantastic footballer. Looking at these vids just make you realise just how good the guy was. Amazing g too how Fergie would get into the team at HT for them to come out every time fighting for everything shows why SAF will go down as the best manager in history of football
2 great teams 2 great captains 2 great managers When football was at its best , I actually feel sorry for kids who never seen this rivalry , best game in football for 5 season . Keane is my favourite player and the memories I have of this game is why I love football . Football just isn’t the same no more .
Facts here - it's all too nice and sanitized these days - players diving if they are touched, no one seems to care anymore they just play for money, no tackling anymore or physicality, VAR which is a joke and the football is kinda boring - it's all possession, sideways passing, sends me to sleep lol
When these Liverpool fans compare that cross spamming merchant TAA to Beckham, u know they were crying during Becks glory days. Beckhams crosses were sooo accurate, TAA literally dashes out 50 crosses a game and closes his eyes, hoping it hits it target
When I watch late 90's and early 2000's Arsenal , Man United teams I feel the goosebumps. Those teams where phenomenal. The surprising part most of the players played in this game continue to play for the clubs fore like 5-6 to 10 more years after this game. Sadly this level of commitment is dead by the current brood of pro today.
The football at that time was amazing, full of all essetnial element, speed, power, techni, etc. Bot teams focused on game and fighting each other. So pure football!!!!
It makes me sad how far down Arsenal and United have sank in the last few years. There was a time Arsenal would go an entire season without losing at highbury and united would win almost all league games at old trafford. Time flies
When United v arsenal games were full of drama , intensity , skill,...and brutality.....loved the passion this rivalry stirred up during the 90s ....miss those days of keane, viera, scholes, bergkamp, beckham, stam and others...great times
The sequence from 15:53 is typical of Keane's sublime passing and first touch. He always fizzed the ball into Cole, Yorke, Ole and his first touch when it getting it back from Andy was superb.
@GTS Ikr those peoples be like "Let men play" how you supose to let those peoples play when they keep kicking and punching players just because they are too agressive.
Well I agree in some ways that that was great old days when footballers really play like men for pride and honor, not just for money. They fought till the whistle blown, along the way they got physical and all, but I guess that’s coz they just wanted to win so bad. However, I also agree that harsh challenges that could end someone’s career like Keane did to Alf Inge Haaland should be punished accordingly.
The season when Keane signed a new contract with United and the first to break the salary cap of premiership in England to become the highest paid player in premiership history at that moment earning 55 thousand pounds per week. Roy Keane also scored the winner of the Toyota Intercontinental Cup in Japan now known as Fifa World Club Cup in the same season.
Raimond was a good keeper, when a goalkeeper has a quiet reputation its usually a good sign.Always did a good job when called upon and very few errors that I remember
@Vernon Francis Gallagher Romero is better than Van Der Gouw. He would walk into most Premier League teams. Don't forget he has played in a World Cup Final
The game was always going to go this way. With the explosion of money, clubs want to protect investments like Neymar, its no good paying 200 mill for him to be injured by a Vinnie Jones tackle from behind. Another commenter nailed this years ago ; "British football in the 90's,was mostly British players, with a few Scandinavians, those players are not known for being small, technical players. You can't ask Iniesta to be "hard",if you aren't asking Batty to be skillful." Besides, have you watched any full games from the 90's? There are so many basic errors,or hopeful punts,or hoofed balls out of fear. The ball spends sooooo much time out of play, for throw ins or free kicks. Yes,there were far more characters, the game itself was more action packed(today 40% of games involve passing around either boxes) but today's game,is far faster, with the ball in play way more, basic errors and hoofed balls are sins for managers, and undoubtedly, there are way more skillful players. It always comes down to a trade off...no tackles from behind? ok but that means less tackles...banning heading for health reasons? ok but bye bye to Crouchie or Ferguson....safer stadiums for family's? ok......but you get rid of the most passionate fans(usually the ultra's or racist pricks) In the end,the game is better, how could it not be?It always progresses. The Prem has been an upward spike since inception, the bloody thing thrived during the recession.
I mean if you want to praise the pass-fest that this game is today along with the amazing protection of attackers and shitty VAR go ahead. It was so much more action packed than today’s football.
What a wonderful game of football between two top class sides. Lots of meaty challenges and not a sign of faking injuries and rolling over half a dozen times, thanks for uploading. Also great to see Highbury again, what a proper football stadium, I only went once and my team won! Good old Kevin Gallacher.
It's crazy to think that the standard of these two sides since the late 90's is better than the level they are at now, considering this is nearly 25 years ago. Both united and Arsenal from this era would still be good enough to compete for the title now.
The amount if class oozing out of both the teams is staggering in hindsight. Everyone (star players as well squad players) doing bits, working hard tracking back yet playing some amazing passes, flick ons and skill. Makes current gen football look staid.
Newcastle fan here, there's a some bona fida legends in this game.. I loved seeing overmars in full flight and Bergkamp is in the top 3 strikers ever.. to name but 2
Roy Keane!! What a skipper he was...! Definitely there are very few teams in football history who could claim to have a captain being as good or better than Keane (I mean not as a player but as a captain, with his capability of pulling the entire team to victory, and making every player give his 110%...then of course, he was a super strong player as well). In the latest years my mind goes to Baresi, and I think Simeone could have been a top captain of Inter, but they decided to give the armband to Ronaldo instead.... Also Tony Adams was a great captain. Still among all of them, to me Keane is The Captain..
Everyone knows the football and entertainment at this time is far superior to now but so is the commentary. Well timed energy, genuinely engaging statistics on the players and an all-round upgrade on today’s “fantastic, by (insert player)!”
Scholes had a nightmare in this game, can see why Ferguson took him off, Arsenal did have a superb pressing game at that time. Becks was superb in 2nd half & Keane showing great finishing composure, not just a leader but a good footballer too
Words cannot do justice at the quality and intensity of this football match, stam , keane and Beckam and the likes had mind and ball control in abundance .
Seems like players actually fought a bit back then. And then some player discovered that if you fell down and over-dramatized your pain, your opponent could get a red card. And thus, was born, the diving/writhing in pain culture.
beckham was phenomenal, long and medium range of passing, incredible vision, balls through, free kicks, and obviously crossing. Can't believe how many football fans, and whats worse, how many united fans thought he was only a pretty face. The best united side of all time was really dependent on him and keano
It was dependent on keane and Ryan Giggs, def not beckham. The year before utd treble, both keane and giggs got injured but beckham was fit, and utds season became a shambles. Treble year giggs and keane were back and we won treble, beckham Could not score the type of goals giggs did
@@davetherave3511 the key there was keane, keane was the crucial element, but beckham was definitely more important than giggs, he added a level of creativity, crossing, assists and goals that giggs never did, but also he was a hard worker people like you is why I made my initial comment, and obviously I was vindicated, I do wonder if you watched united at all
