Joy’s “Ophelia” moment at the beginning of the video, the teaser photos being very reminiscent of the Rococo era…I loved everything about this comeback and I’m so glad you made a video to encapsulate a lot of the feelings I have about this. this video is called a “bite-sized” review but it’s still so comprehensive and wonderfully written that it felt like a full-length. the reaction i’ve seen to the song and mv online has been somewhat tepid - including my original one - but you’ve really brought it to life with your descriptions and i’m inspired to go back and give it another shot.
I was so scared SM would skimp on this comeback now that Red Velvet has crossed the seven-year threshold but I was pleasantly surprised! This is definitely one of my favorite mv's of theirs, I'm so in love with the theatricality of it (but I'd be lying if I said it topped the sheer weirdness of Red Velvet hunting pizza boys for sport). My personal favorite song off the album is In My Dreams; in my mind, this is located at one end of a rainbow, while NCT Dream's Hello Future is on the other end. I love songs where I can picture a movie unfolding as I listen to it (or in this case, a specific drama which I'm predicting will have a bittersweet ending lol).

The MV as always was very visually appealing, the teaser pics gave me a very different impression than what the MV shown. The song I like initially, will have to go back and listen to it again to really cement my feelings but I like it. Haven’t listened to the rest of the album yet but im sure it’s a banger
I love, literally LOVE when art is referenced or used as heavy symbolism, so Feel My Rhythm was just perfect to me. I absolutely loved the MV and the song was honestly so refreshing but at the same time sounded exactly like the Red Velvet I've always loved. Personally I loved Rainbow Halo, I love the repetition and it's just an easy and feel-good song. Bamboleo a close second though! Oh, I have a few! My go-to is “Rivers of London” by Ben Aaronovitch. One of the best “character voices” I’ve read in a long time (and an excellent audiobook performance by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith)! It was released in North America under the name “Midnight Riot”, which is unfortunate, but it is a hilarious take on urban fantasy. My other recommendation (also fantasy, I swear I read other genres) is “The Aeronaut’s Windlass” by Jim Butcher. Very dense, very world-heavy, and a lot of ship battles, but the characters and story are worth it.

Personally, my favorite song off the album is "Rainbow Halo." And weirdly, I love for the exact reason you placed it last. Rainbow Halo feels like a dream. When I'm listening to it, I feel like I'm trapped in a trance, able to recognize the melody and sing along in my head. But when it's over, I can't recall a thing, only the repeated "Rainbow halo dance." Unable to remember the song, I listen to it over and over to be able to and before I'm even able to notice, I'm addicted. And it's suddenly my favorite. Also, I kind of like that I forget about it because it means that it won't get overplayed lol
There are a lot of visual references to Hieronymus Bosch’s epic tryptic “The Garden of Earthy Delights” (c. 1495-1505) in the Feel My Rhythm MV, and I loved seeing it.
I could literally listen to Mera talking for 24 hours straight! The way in which you articulate yourself with such a poetic mastery over the English language is just so pleasing to listen to! Your videos, both the half-hour essays and the short reviews, are worth the wait. Feel My Rhythm had me liking it from an arm's width but your review of it has me wanting to listen to it again ASAP. She has a *quality* *education* that gives her the perfect lens through which to view sonic experimentation, symbolism, media and art history. Over the past few years Mera has proven how well she sticks to her own thing, and doesn't follow after the algorithm-boosting Kpop video trends. Truly a gift to the Kpop RU-vid community. We need more mature, well-researched, carefully thought out video essays like hers! A lot less drama and infighting, more shared artistic appreciation.
This comeback was literal art, both visually and musically!! I love this release and the album is just as amazing. Red Velvet never disappoints and I’m so happy with how this comeback turned out!!
For me Bamboleo and In my dreams take the crown. Bamboleo has such a light feel-good vibe to it which get progressively brighter and brighter as the song goes on. In my dreams caught me off guard and made me tear up by just listening to the emotions in their vocals. It was such a raw vocal performance, it reminded me of Body talk. Overall, I really enjoyed this comeback, I think they managed to portray the essence of spring really well
I wasn't really a big Red Velvet fan until this comeback and now I'm like just amazed by how good this album is. The music video like something out of a 50s Disney movie or a Barbie movie in literally the best way. The music is so easy to listen to on repeat, from the instrumentals to the vocals, and the use of Bach's Air makes me so happy. I don't see classical music sampled well very often and this was a perfect use of it. Some of the songs had a similar classical feel, yet also jazzy if you know what I mean. It's magical, addictive, and I'm obsessed. Edit: I think I'm gonna stan this group now lol
I really like the different melodies on the "In my dreams you love me back" line and the overall harmonic feeling of the Song. And the Rap Section in Beg for me where the synth slides through space is just super badass.

I liked that you mentioned the classical sample was well done in this one (although I also love “Hands Up” but can see where that one gets a little overworked). I’m just in love with the fact that they referenced garden of earthly delights and Hieronymus Bosch’s art and aesthic the whole entire music video it’s elegant dreamy ethereal but also extremely dark moody and uncomfortable I loved

I was a little iffy on Feel My Rhythm at first listen tbh, but the final chorus where they raised the octave sold it for me, definitely my favorite part of the song. As for bsides, Bamboleo is solidly my favorite, but I have yet to recover from Beg For Me lmao, all day my head has just been repeating that "dance for me, work for me, beg for me" line because it's so good, I kinda wish the rest of the song kept that kind of intimidating, domineering vibe, but I still love it regardless.
As a theatre kid this was perfect!! Even my friends said that if I ever was in a kpop group, this concept would be perfect for me… it helps that I sing and dance too lol
Great video as always Mera! There was something interesting i noticed about the music video. While some of the monet inspiration is very clear, i also noticed a lot about the architecture in specifically Yeri's, Seulgi's and the dance scene... and then I realized it is very much reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch's works! Specifically the garden of earthly delights. So the pink structure in the back of one of the dance sequence and the architecture in Yeri's scene look very reminiscent of the middle panel of the painting. Whereas Seulgi kinda seems to resemble the prince of hell in the left panel of the painting. Just something interesting i'd felt like sharing! :) I always love to hear your thoughts about comebacks, this video really made my day!
I'm legitimately so happy that they sampled Air. Although it's pretty overplayed (not as much as canon in D. No piece will ever be as overplayed as Canon in D), it holds a special corner in my heart. The sampling was really tastefully done imo, especially because unlike with Cherry Bullet, they sampled more than just a couple measures (Cherry Bullet sampled around 7 notes, only a tiny bit of the main theme, whereas RV sampled the whole theme I think). I've typically been pretty indifferent towards Red Velvet, but this comeback was just incredible. Take notes producers! This is how you sample a classical piece!
Yeah this is definitely my favorite Red Velvet title track, I fell in love instantly. Maybe it’s the hype talking but I think this might be favorite mini from them ever. I love all the b sides. My favorite besides the title is hands down Beg For Me, but they’re all stunners in their own right! Also great write up! Favorite song was In My Dreams. I’ve had that thing on repeat since the moment I first heard it. Just so beautiful. The art nerd in me was thrilled to see Red Velvet using Bosch’s dark and bizarre paintings as a part of their concept. I’m a sucker for dark and creepy art as well as dark and creepy Red Velvet so seeing them smash these two together with a beautiful classically inspired song was just *chef’s kiss*.
Couldn't have said it better myself! I adored Feel My Rhythm's MV, and I'm half-tempted to make a compilation post of each art reference because that's how much I enjoyed it. I love their outfits, the colors, the sets, everything about it. I want to live in the world Feel My Rhythm's MV takes place in. We have the same favorite song from the album. From first listen Bamboleo already caught my attention. My second and third favorites are In My Dreams and Good, Bad, Ugly. It's been a long time since I felt this nourished by a velvet comeback. RV truly never fails to deliver 💖

If i'm being honest this Feel My Rhythm era is what I expect Queendom era to be. After the success of Reve Festival Trilogy and Psycho everybody was so excited to see what Red Velvet is gonna do next, Queendom era was good but it doesn't have that "we are back" feels that Feel My Rhythm era has now. Feel My Rhythm is has that classic Red Velvet colors in terms of music and visuals, the B-sides were also great and each track is memorable. Some speculation said that this might be another Reve Festival Trilogy, well if it's then i'm excited what are they gonna bring next to the table.
Mera's passion is contagious. Songs I feel lukewarm about become favorites once I've heard what Mera has to say about them. When she praises songs I already love, I love them all the more.
God your videos are sooooo good! This era really is something we’ve never seen in K-pop, it reminded me mostly of my music classes i was forced to take (cause you can’t play your instrument without solfège) but in a way that made me realize why i really liked more ancient musical and artistic mediums. The tasty and enchanting tracs on this album are just such a delight even the weaker tracks still hold an important place on this album. The visuals are just god send too, the references to artists like Bosch were fun too see, especially when you didn’t really expect them! Mixing all sorts of art mediums (make it fashion, music, painting, or even performance) to then create art is honestly just so great and one of the main reasons why red velvet, to me, is one of the best K-pop groups out there. 10/10
I LOVE the mv so much it hurts.. Idk much about art history though I love painting and this mv has a very calming yet very creepy sensation. The only Red Velvet song I've listened to before is Psycho,and I'm not much into girl groups but RV really stands out to me. Fantastic video as always. The art mania mashup is probably my favourite part of the music video - it was so fun to spot things and wonder/speculate. I think that In My Dreams takes the top spot for me though - there's something about that chorus that just has me hook, line and sinker!
Also I was SO wary about the Bach sampling but as you mentioned I think it was used just the right amount in Feel My Rhythm. Phew! That could've gone waaaaaay the other way...

I am not very good with my words . I loved this song . I call it a caramel bop . Because it's so smooth & flowy . It has the glossiness that I haven't heard in a song for a while . The mv is just art . It's so pleasing to look at . It's something that I can dive into and forget everything . Every scene us so immaculate . And I just love how everything feels cohesive . My favorite comeback from this year. As always Red velvet doesn't disappoint.

As a theater kid, I approve! Dramatic, larger than life and even a bit obnoxious at times, art is in a way the thing that keeps everyone moving, it is creativity materialized and this comback did just that and I knew from the second I saw it that you would talk about it.
I kneeeew this cb was going to get a react out of you! My favorite is in my dreams, followed by beg for me. In my dreams, despite having its hook repeated pre and post chorus, never felt repetitive as the singer, the tone, and the instrumentals changed continously throughout the song, creating a very dramatic, highkey desperate, lowkey cultish vibes. Beg for me does not need an explanation. About rainbow halo, it is very reminiscent of reve festival day 1,i think. About the mv.. This time red velvet truly outdid themselves, i think. From art references to tying their lore to overall kwangya storyline loosely and not only having individual themes for each member's outfits but managing to create matching outfits? And for the title track, sampling bach on an edm beat with small 8-bit moments? Truly immaculate. I was so scared that sm was gonna abandon red velvet and make their last proper comeback queendom but this is such a pleasant surprise, especially with the girls truly enjoying their time!

Like it's just so perfect to me, kind of velvet just like Better Be but at the same time summery like Hit That Drum. From the colourful yet soothing instrumental with that f*cking wonderful sax and all of those beautiful synth sounds to the many facettes of vocal excellence the members are showing (Wendy's talk/rap, Joy's 2nd verse part, the chorus too actually)... ugh too good!🥵 I agree - it can get repetitive, but for me this is the best possible way of being repetitive. I would describe it as hypnotizing and maybe just dreamy... like a very cute daydream?! I'd honestly love to forget I left the stove on with Rainbow Halo on LMAO😇 I will play that song on repeat this summer, I know that for sure!😻
