It's crazy to me that you were able to pull this off in under 4 hours. I would have needed 20 hours and it wouldn't have looked nearly as good. Hats off!

Hi Codex..love the Morpheus touch in your style, like the concept of different textures foreground to background, not just color tones. Love John buscema, I don't think he drew anything wrong. Been thinking about getting his trade paperbacks on Conan, bye'eeee..

How do you print something like this. I am so glad I've come back to this one a few times as I gotten better at your style. I pick up different stuff I need each time. Next is I proper ratios and how to print or g3t printed this type of 2ork. Thanks as always
@TheDrawingCodex
@TheDrawingCodex 4 месяца назад
You mean printing other than on a desktop printer? I have a large photo printer that I have had for ages... So not much experience getting art printed elsewhere. If it's big you can get decent results with a normal office printing shop. Although you might need to try a few times to get the colour right ... It will probably look darker than you imagine without tweaking.

Your presentation in stellar. I really like your face being perfectly framed in an unabtrusive circle. how is that done? Thanks for thevideo . this takes away some of the mystery of placing characters in scenes.
@TheDrawingCodex
@TheDrawingCodex Год назад
Thanks! I’m glad this one was helpful! The face cam in the circle is done via OBS using a mask. I use a steamer style setup via OBS with lots of different scenes. but only ever do recording. I just got around to properly framing the face shot so I’m glad it worked out! I need to get more cameras :)

Wow!!! you always prost great videos but this one might be the favorite one to date! Great production value with the face on the corner! It might be interesting to look into recording some of the inking part on the cintinq with your external camera. there might be comething to take out from how you pull your lines. I was impressed but how you never ever turned the canvas to pull any of the lines. Some comments that you might take into accont or not: -You should coinsider doing a "Let's draw..." episode on the latest installments of the Legend of Zelda games. Your style isn't that far from to the one used on the latest games and the release of the newest game is going to be on May 12th. It's an good oppotunity to reach a larger base of possible subscribers. -How do you decide on the aspect ratio you choose fro your illustrations? You seem to use this more cinematic proportion quite commonly and I like it very much, but I’d love to see you reasoning behind it. Maybe there is a video there. -It's quite common for you to use pretty round rocks and boulders on your sketches .That's OK, its part of your aesthetics choices. But I'm really curious about how to design rocks, especially when they are more crystal like and I've also seen pretty interesting examples of this on your previous work as well as stone totens, gates, ruins etc. Maybe with this demo illustration on the channel you could follow up with a rock design video where you do a bit of teaching at the begining and doesn't have to invest that much time on the demo afterwards, instead just point out examples on theis illustration and others from your portfolio explaning your thought process. -Curiosity: Are the Lion Riders from the same universe as the Cat-Lizzard rider? (I miss that strange creature.) If yes, do we have other rider tribes/countries? Cat-Bird rider? (from Watch me Draw Cool Goblin rider?) Cat-Fish rider? Cat-Bug rider? It woul be amazing to watch you designing some of those creatures and expand this universe as a World Buiding exercise in the future of the channel. With the number of Cat people a see on the internet everyday I think you would have a potential gold mine in your hands. LOL. -I also apreciated the painted illustration of the Lion Rider you used as an example. It reminded me of the classic Wizzard of OZ movie. I know you don't pursue tha style anyomore but if you ever feel the urge to do something in that vein again, please record it and share. I'm sure I wasnt the only one to find it striking. I love to see this videos and also the discussions on The Visual Scholar series! The quality and depth of the free content you put out on the internet is unprecedented. Please keep them coming!

Hey Tim! Thanks for the super useful advice!! I always read and appreciate your suggestions. Going to do some Zelda stuff soon. I need to add some more cameras to my setup for sure. I think seeing the hand hold the pencil/Wacom is a big part of learning. And I’d also like to have an extra face cam on the traditional sketching setup I have. Lots of upgrades coming soon! (The last year has been crazy schedule wise. So only just getting time to properly focus more on RU-vid and courses again.) I choose the aspect ratio pretty loosely I think the base one was twice as wide as it is high. But I often crop it for more of a cinematic wide look. I got used to this wide canvas after doing a lot of video game and film concept art. So it’s either 16x9 or wider (for animated film stuff it can get really wide). I totally need to up my rock game haha. I’m often just making them round for simplicity. I think that’s a good idea for a video for sure! Thanks again!

Hey! I’m a mid-career concept artist and I have no idea what magic you were performing at 2:36:00 to get your flats prepped so quickly. Most of the info online about actions is photo-editing specific. Do you have any resources or would you make a video/short on how to do that?
@TheDrawingCodex

Yeah I’ll try make a video soon going over those steps and how I use actions. Thanks!!
