Line and Color Quick Start Guide: www.thedrawing...
Level up your anatomy and structural drawing!
In this video I draw Sidon from Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
This Demo is designed to show how to study and breakdown character designs into primary forms to help them feel three dimensional and solid. It's not meant to be a perfect fan art drawing, my style is different to the classic Capcom style. Rather the goal here is to learn to break down designs and help you to draw them in your own style.
A big part of the art journey is figuring out how you apply these concepts into your own work and style!
If you want to learn about the techniques I am using based on the Loomis Method you can check out these videos:

With most types of stylised types of art - There is often a mix of structure and perspective and technical drawing.... combined with symbols and abstract features.
Happy Drawing!

I accidently recorded this in lower quality 1080p in OBS so there is no 4K unfortunately! My apologies. Hopefully you can get some good tips out of it anyway!

So much great information! It is so helpful to see the loomis process put into use as oppossed to heres how to draw a loomis head. Seeing it utilized as a tool to deconstruct/construct is...i cant tell you how helpful. As always your videos are pure gold. Thank you for taking the time to do these! You've become my go to channel, really the only channel i need to improve. Thanks!

Hi Codex..another masterpiece of a lesson/talk about. Like how you tell people what your thinking. Thanks for your time and efforts in making these teaching videos. Your actually immortalizing yourself in time because utube never deletes videos. A kid in a 1000 years will learn something or think is that the way people looked in the past,fish heads?

That's the plan! It's a bit scary... even my videos from a year ago are still there and people are watching them. It inspires me to put more effort in :) Thanks again!!

Hi! Thank you so much for your videos. They are awesome. That said, I would like to know, when you are drawing comics, or anything else that requires the use of the same background regularly, how do you stay consistent with your backgrounds? How do you know what something looks like from this angle or that angle without getting frustrated? I want to make my comics but I’m paralysed by the fact that I suck at drawing backgrounds, much more when I have to draw them consistently…. Do you make floor plants for your buildings and whatnot? How do you do it?

Hey Nicole! Yeah that’s a great question. I remember someone else asked a similar one a while back that I never got around to answering. I was considering making a video on the subject. Bottom line is that I don’t have a solid go to plan. My rule is to cheat and try to get away with as much as possible ;) with a comic I try to think about which scenes will need detailed planning or frequent redrawing. I will do anything from: build a full (but rough) 3d model (I used to use sketch up, now I use blender) to sketch a floor plan, to make it up as I go along. So much of what I would consider success involves good judgment. This in turn comes from experience. I would suggest planning more in the beginning to make sure you have the reference if you need it. But! Try to give yourself a time limit for building the plans. You would be surprised how much just a simple floor plan will allow you to avoid putting windows in the wrong place. Or how much time a simple 3d model might save in blocking out the scene. Often the plan will save time anyway. The trick is to know what the viewer will care about and to make sure you keep some flexibility when creating the final art. It’s important to make sure you prioritise good foreground middleground background shapes (for instance) vs being a slave to the reference you have created. Also keep in mind that creating good establishing shots and then keeping subsequent panels vague as to specific location in the scene will work well. I often try to block in the story so it’s easier to draw like this. (If I have control of the story and storytelling). Anyway not sure if that even starts to answer the question. Probably better to explain with examples in a video

Hey, Tim! Appreciate all the great work. I do have a question when it comes to getting into the French comic industry. Do you have to speak French in order to enter? How do you apply to such a job, is it as simple as tracking down a publisher and sending them a few samples? Thanks!

What kind of microphone is that, I'd like to research it to see if it's a good fit for me.
@TheDrawingCodex
@TheDrawingCodex Год назад
It’s a Rode HS2 (the kind of mic you would use while presenting on stage). Is good for this purpose because it keeps the sound and volume consistent across different shots without needing to reposition a mic. Abe much better for keeping the sound consistent while Drawing… as your head tends to point in different directions while working. Also doesn’t pick up a lot of background noise. So yeah I mostly use it here because it’s simple and easy. :)

@@TheDrawingCodex Thank you for the response. I have a huge backlog of your how to draw videos that I need to get through. The how to draw Street Fighter characters look so interesting. You've done good work and I love the longer videos. A lot more discussion and knowledge can be gained through 30 min to 1 hour videos rather than quick bite 10 to 15 min videos which leave a lot of info out
