Lots of people have been asking for Procreate based tutorials! So I think I have finally started to sort out the camera/editing side of putting these together (Still a long way to go for my recording setup, but the basics are there now). Expect some more soon. I have a few other tablet solutions I want to explore for creating digital art.

Most tutorials skip the boring flatting part, I appreciate that you kept it in. This is the reality of the job a lot of the times!

Take a shot of preferred substance/beverage every time Tim says Bom/boam/boum/ etc! Lol, I've found myself saying it now whenever I drop in a line, :P

I tend to still use the Lasso selection tool in Procreate + using one of those Bluetooth shortcut keypads, certainly makes the flatting stage quicker!

Watching you draw on a tablet was so helpful. I'm using a Samsung s9. Just started a couple of months ago. It feels different and I so speed up. Seeing you not speed up....PRICELESS....

I have a 2021 M1 iPad Pro, as well, but mine's the 2tb. Last time i checked, on a canvas that was 8000 x 4000, at 300 dpi, Procreate would allow me like 52 layers. I got the Rock, Paper, Pens screen protector from Astropad, because it adheres via static cling, basically, so you can pop it off, to check your colors, or whatever. It made a huge, huge difference to how drawing felt. I really appreciate you doing a piece in Procreate. I only restarted drawing about a month ago, and have been eating up your videos ever since. The screen capture was easier to see, but I really liked the back and forth you edited in.

ya the 11 in is too small. I have the 12.9 and I love it. Im a tattoo artist and the iPad Pro was the best thing to happen to our industry drawing and productivity wise. and ya you need to get a matte screen protector for the paper feel. I also have a mini procreate keyboard / hot key pad that I use. as you know, for efficiency you need keys to quickly adjust brush size, switch to eraser, and undo, etc.

If you ever go down the route of comparing softwares and stuff like that, it'd be cool to see you try out Krita sometime :D

You probably got this by now of course, but the boring flatting part you can do with the selection tool in procreate pretty easily too especially because the selection doesn’t close when you move/zoom the canvas around, and you can use the “color fill” in the selection to automate it all. Not as fast as clip studio, but works well when you got clean lines (Love your work btw like watching these while I’m working it’s very relaxing)

45:48 though I enjoy seeing draw on a small tablet....it's better up close. I don't need to see tablet.😊 I'll just remember what you are using.

Speaking of digital workflow that also works for traditional, it was crazy finding out some of the animators at Trigger Studio only use ipad mini for actual Dungeon Meshi production. I guess it's because they are very proficient at traditional drawing workflow that they can draw digitally on any device

Yeah that's interesting! Perhaps the smaller size puts the focus on big shapes and not getting bogged down in the details. I think you could do a lot of good stuff on a basic smaller ipad for sure. Or maybe they are trying to cut costs :)

I dont get it i have an solid sketch with somekind of lineart and when i start adding the flat colors (not saturated) just doesnt look good and no matter what i choose always is the same even if i have an solid base to work with so later if i put the values doesnt gonna do it better neither because the flat ones look awful. Is possible to get your opinion on showing me how could apply the colors on my drawing if i send you one of my sketches??

I feel like the thing that would annoy me most in procreate is not being able to see the physical size of the brush tip. I like how in Krita and others that when I have tapered brushes it shows the brush tip size adjusting in real time. Makes it very easy to brush in flats with a round brush even. Also what Tim alluded to about not having dedicated buttons for things. Having to double tap the pen etc seems like a sure-fire way to pee me off. Whether due to human error or the occasional system hitch, devices that require tap combinations often lead into this limbo of not knowing where you are in the combination, or being off and all kinds of unpredictable stuff can happen. I think with the ipad(I've not used one in years nor procreate), the trade-off is that the experience is more tactile and closer to analog/traditional feeling. It's closer to just using a sketchbook - a not so logical, but very human reason to use one I think.
