Silver black size 8 is my go-to. I’ve been eyeing that larger wash brush. And yes, I’ve ruined many a micron by pushing too hard or trying to draw over wet paint. 🙄 Still my favorite go-to. I would like to see you use the sticks.
I'm excited to use the larger silver black velvet with some larger paintings. Agreed micron are still a go to pen, I just need to be more careful with them. I will use the sticks soon, any ideas on what I should paint with them?
aren't those chinese caligraphy brushes? i mean it doesn't matter, but the seller actually gave you those super classic complimentary Chinese felt mat and the knot.
It said they were Japanese calligraphy and watercolor brushes where I purchased them. I was surprised to receive the felt mat and knot, it was a very nice touch. I love them very much!
I used to paint in class, years ago. Then I kind of lost the habit along the way, as I had other things that took up my time... But this gives me nostalgia 🎵 Thank you for sharing
I've used a lot of Micron Pens and the same thing happens with the small sizes. A few years ago they came out with the PN tip and I really like these and they don't bust easily and you can get a good thin line.
I always wanted to try japanese brushes, too. I need some new Micron pens... mine are almost used up and I like to doodle over watercolor sometimes. I think it's always good to have some Micron pens at home. I also ordered some watercolor tubes... I found a Naples Yellow that I really like and I think it's from Lukas 1862. The company is quite local to me and I thought I'll give it a try. I also got Viridian to see how it mixes with every other colors in my palette as my only single pigment green color.
Christine, I'm working on a video trying out the Japanese brushes and can't wait to share it with you! I think my Microns are what I have to keep up on the most, I use them a lot! Naples Yellow is a beautiful color you will have to let me know what you think of it! Viridian in a beautiful green, I use it for my ocean scenes, it works perfectly! I don't think I've yet done a video of all the different greens I have🤔 I will have to get on that! Thank you so much!!
@@AlisaLaporteArt Naples Yellow is actually very beautiful. I think if I would do a sketch of my house this would be the perfect color. It mixes soft everything actually. I also like to mix it with Quin. Coral. I think I made a mixing chart somewhere in my sketchbook. But if you can get Naples Yellow by Lukas for a reasonable price (even a pan) it's a good color to have. At least I think it's a good color that doesn't have Titanium White added to it.
@@AlisaLaporteArt Because the "roll" effect is very intense. I cut 44" by 7 feet of paper, sprinkled a whole piece of plywood with water, layed the paper on a whole piece of plywood and really sprayed it seriously with hosed water, then I smoothed and stapled the wet paper to the plywood and set it up to dry in the sun. When dry, I took it out the staples and cut the paper to sizes big enough to store under my bed. It was a whole day job as I did 14 feet that day. I made a photo and a watercolor painting of that effort last summer.
Wow that was so much great art supply.. I love DS watercolors and have a few sticks as well. I cut them up and put them in half pans. They seem to last a long time. Rolls of paper are great as you can get huge pieces of paper, the only prob Me is cutting it down and getting it to At flat. Btw I noticed that you have the unfortunate habit of calling me and your audience “ guys” we are not guys.. it disappears women and women artists. I would be so happy if you dropped that from your presentation. As you are a woman it would be more respectful. Thanks very much.
That is a great idea to cut up the watercolor stick and put them in half pans, I will have to try that. To get your paper flat after cutting it, I would stretch it. I do have a video on how I do that, you get the paper wet and use a watercolor tape to stretch it some people have even used staples to stretch it too. I hope that helps.
