In 1943 we moved from 2422 Beaumont Ave to 2416 Beaumont Ave two buildings down because it had one more bedroom and it was in the front my Mother could sit at the front window and watch the world go by. The rent was 36 dollars a month .Recently I looked up the rent for that apartment ,and it was 1,450 dollars per month,I don’t know is it possible?

In 1943 we moved from 2422 to 2416 Beaumont Ave the apartment had two bedrooms instead of one and their were five of us also the apt was in the front and my Mother could sit at the front window and see what was going on in the street. The rent was 36 dollars a month. I recently looked up the apt.to see how much the rent was and saw that it was 1,400 dollars a month now. Is that possible?

up near Fordham U. and the Bronx Zoo.This is where the Bronx Tale was set.60's sucked, dangerous times in fun city. Riverdale, Arthur Ave and City Island are three of the best neighborhoods in the entire city. All Bronx. And never ever think of doing something stupid, like taking something that does not belong to you in this neighbor hood Sonny's influence is alive and well.

My first reaction when I visited Arthur Ave was this is Disneyland for adults. I spent the whole day on Arthur Ave and I didn't want to leave. This documentary only scratches the surface. A incredible neighborhood tucked away in the Bronx NY. Greetings from Atlantic City New Jersey USA.

My grandparents lived on Cambreleng and 189th when I was a kid. Neighborhood is still vibrant and busy which exactly the crowd mentioned in this videos: mix of old timers, Italians, Albanians, college kids, tourists from all around, and former residents coming back from Westchester, Jersey, CT, and Long Island.

Now that the Manhattan "Little Italy" has become a haven of expensive, trendy , Yuppie stores, the Bronx's "Little Italy" is the only one left. The business owners hung in there thru some rough times, but now the comeback is complete. The paisans have succeeded in maintaining a corner of the old neighborhood and are now flourishing with some very successful businesses. The video presents some of these old timers and the way that they all work together to survive in a very competitive business world. Arthur Ave. is a piece of the Bronx that isn't riddled with low life cheap violent crime like the surrounding areas. The paisans have kept their neighborhood virtually crime free and I wonder if there is still low key mob presence to insure the neighborhood's security. The recent well publicized burial of mob boss Frank Lo Casio indicates that there is some kind of mob presence and believe me there is nothing wrong with that.

This is such a terrific video. And all of these businesses are still around. Now local places like Teitel Brothers, Borgotti’s, Cerini Coffee and Gifts, Mike’s Deli and others offer online ordering with nationwide delivery (and Canada too). 🇮🇹

Edgar Perret-Gentil Bucket list...Calabria Pork Store...the sopprasetta is un-real...Borgattis...freshest pasta and delicious ravioli of all kinds...Tietels...best sausage I've ever had...sun-dried tomatoes, olives, salt packed anchovies etc etc etc etc etc...Randazzos...large fresh octopus, squid, shellfish, sea urchin, sea bass, everything...Casa de Mozzarella..the best mozz, delicious buratta, the best provolone ...best sfuyadell I've ever had. Can go on and on...owners Italian...workers mostly Albanian...I don't know if Arthur Ave will be what it is in 20 years. The Italians became successful and moved to NJ heh..I hope they hold down the fort. Safe area, the prices are excellent. REAL Little Italy. You just need to go and take your time.

Your obviousley not from New York, Jews and Italians arrived in this country about the same time, they came from the areas of Europe geographically really not that far from each other. The lower east side NewYork spilled over, was Jewish and Italian. They both had issue with the Irish most of all Irish cops didn't like Jews or Italians. There was an understanding. At the time they were both trying to better themselves & very little problems between the two, and much respect as matter-of-fact many mixed marriages came from this. No one came to the USA at that time for a handout and it's no surprise that there were shops run by each in the same area. Bensonhurst is also another good example, as was Canarsie in Brooklyn.
