This is glorious! What a joy to see Arthur Marshall in full flow, a laugh in every line - and with the brilliant Mavis Nicholson, the best telly interviewer we ever had, in my opinion. More Arthur Marshall please!

Dead right about the wonderful Mavis - I so wish there was a DVD of her work instead of all that Parkinson crap.

I loved Arthur as a Kid and forgot all about him until now. Wow, this is great and I agree with the younger me, Arthur is a force of nature.

Dear Arthur Marshall! I always loved him, but his remarks on P. G. Wodehouse sealed the deal. Any admirer of the Master is OK with me. Plus Arthur had the most endearing laugh.

Hats off to the editor who signed him up for The New Statesman in the 70s. There was always a gloomy Trot writing in to complain about this ‘bourgeois’ columnist, but most of us loved him. He must have met The Hitch and Martin Amis! Amazing, adorable man.

It's a delight to hear someone speaking so fluently on the television. But essentially he is a very self-centred man, and this rather takes the gilt off the gingerbread.

I suppose I can understand why you might think that, but he did live on his own and he was paid to give his opinions, both written & in person, and his opinions were loved, so how else do you expect him to sound? Public figures generally do behave like this, so pointing out Marshall in this way does seem a little odd, and frankly I don't find it that pronounced, as I'm interested in his opinions about life or himself either way!

I always remember him being quite an affable chap; however, in this interview he comes across as a moaning pain in the arse.
