My grandmother used to allow my brother to eat dirt with a spoon. She said he knows what he needs. My mother had a fit. But my brother seemed to get over his sniffles and cough. Love nature

Root artichokes are very 'farty' but good. The fact the wind is foul suggests cleansing. . . I grew up on globe artichokes, quite different from root. Once established they come back year after year. My father had a forest of them as do we. Once strong the roots can be split in quaters and replanted in well rotted manure to boost numbers. It's known in India that they are a complete food, Sister Mother Teresa of Avilia lived on only them for decades as do Vaisnava Monks. Be aware earwigs love to live in them so submerge in water before boiling. Bees and especially bumble bees just love their voluminous nectar production, one can smell it in the purple flowers. Love from Tipperary. 💖🙏💫

When I lived on my farmstead I grew sun chokes and often made a creamy, delicious potato and sun choke au gratin. Also, they were great raw in salads, and steamed and mashed like potatoes. My chickens would sometimes scratch them up and eat them, as well. You video caused me to miss sun chokes which cannot usually be found in markets. Love your videos. We call them Sunchokes. I have grown them for years. They get so tall! I have had mine in same spot for many years - I just harvest some and leave some tubers in the ground and they come back fine. Some years they don't flower - they don't flower here until October and some years we get a killing frost before they can flower - still produce! Your weather is much milder then ours. Have a great week and look forward to next Sunday video. Many Blessings from Vermont

So with that, I quite agree with you about not washing this tuber as there are many benefits to not washing what we eat. Thank you for sharing this plant with us today Terri, I have only this year learned about this plant, but was unaware of its medical use. We have grown these in CT in two different locations - we took them when we moved! just 6 tubers were started and now we have at least 50 to 100 growing on our property - the voles and mice love them though - so best to harvest in late fall after a frost not spring for us! We found that we need to boil with some vinegar or lemon juice or slow bake at 350 for 90 minutes to help break down the inulin - causes some very painful gas in some. Eat just one wait 24 hours to see if you are sensitive...

Hi Terry, I was just watching one of your films on Lemon Balm. I thought I would put a message about it here so you would find it. I make Lemon Whips. I decided to try putting lemon balm in the blender with some water. I whipped it to a fine slurry and then let is sit for ten minutes. Then, I strained it. I gave some t my husband and had some myself. It was so strong that my workaholic German husband had to go to bed in the middle of the day. Some time later, I gave some to our daughter when she was in a crying fit and it helped her calm down and relax. A couple of weeks ago, a young friend was visiting and started crying as she had been having a tough time. Our daughter suggested a Lemon Whip to comfort her. So, that is, as far as I know, a new method for preparing a really strong calming drink. I love your films. Maxine Rogers a Druid from Canada's West Coast.

When I was a wee tiny kid, I used to dig a hole in the backyard and fill it with hose water, and then I would stir and stir and stir with a big spoon from the kitchen until it was a thick muddy soup. Then I would pour cereal in it and eat it. This always got me in so much trouble! One time my grannie came over and said "Oh just let her do it, she knows what she needs". I planted a handful of tubers in some dirt in the entry garden - mistake! ha ha ha They grew nearly 15 foot tall and so big that three adults joining hands barely covered the circumference. The tubers remind me a lot of water chestnuts. Last year I did not harvest them until the flowers began dying back and they were so plump. They were the size of red potatoes. Thank you so much for these, Terri (and Lol and pups!). On your mention I purchased the River Cottage Christmas book last week and just in nick of time was able to purchase some blackberries at the local farmers market. Blackberry Whiskey is now in process. It is really worth reading the enriching memoir commentary in this book if anyone is on the fence between just winging it or investing in the book itself. I'd never have even heard of River Cottage without your mention, and for years I've searched for inspiration about an annual bit of magic to work with Blackberries that might last more than the time it takes to wolf down a pie. So thank you, Terri, Again!

🌻Dear Terri, The artichoke roots reminded me alot of "Arabi", a almost ginger looking root vegetable which i later found out was the hidden Feast beneath the elephant Ear plants, which are so jolly &tropical always. This info came to me so much later in life, that i went into a sort of OMG/red slipper/it was there all along Moment of shock & wonder.i love this about herbs &plants and nature entirely. It is true, this flower is very common in some areas. Next time i find them ,it will be so exciting to try their delicassy. Thank you Danu's Irish Garden!!🌱💐P.s -the bleeding heart red flowers R just SOOO gorgeous/cheers

Connemara Fushcia..Automatically makes the garden take a delicate soft turn. the colour is just Lush, the bleeding heart flowers are oh so similar, i think may have white and red colouring (similar red-sometimes with deep royal purple)with dangly pistons-hence the dripping blood ref../a severe name ,for a delicate flower!,found in the colder north -E&W parts of america. 🍓🌹@@DanusIrishHerbGarden

Good morning!! I had a beautiful bed of artichokes that had been growing and replenishing themselves for 15 years. Went out one morning to find my husband had decided to pull them all up without saving any for me to replant. Bet you can guess what that lead to!😁 what a great idea and how cute is your tunic. Heading to my closet! Have a beautiful day.

Don’t worry about it, they’ll come back. I planted 10 tubers last year. Harvested kilos and kilos of massive artichokes all through October/November/December. However, this year I pulled up over 50 that came up in the potato bed I put there. I thought I’d got them all! But no way. They are incredibly invasive, but I love them. They have continued coming up among the potatoes ever since (I put them up the other end of the allotment this year but they haven’t flowered yet) so I expect another containment battle! So abundant, I also did them in jars of pickles, lovely!

A wonderful and beneficial program! Thank you so much. We plan on moving soon and I am looking forward to planting some Jerusalem Artichokes in my new garden. And I have taken your advice to heart, and stopped over-sanitizing our produce from our own organic garden and orchard. The closer we are to nature, the healthier we will be. Peace be with you friend. 🥀🌻🍀
