There's an alternate universe where Artie walked out of the show this day, decided enough was enough, got completely sober, joined a church, attended AA, married Dana, had four kids, spent a huge amount of time crafting an hour of material that took his comedy to a new level, got a Netflix special, toured with Norm for a few years and is now retired with Dana, grandkids and being still on the Stern show once a week. Shame.
the small cluster of years when artie became the full time side kick and before they went to satellite are so underrated. every day seemed really loose and fun. fresh new energy from artie when we could all laugh at his drunk overeating antics before it completely consumed him. before there was this kinda added pressure to perform a crazy outrageous show for a paying audience on sirius. everything just clicking. i miss it.
This is the show i miss before Howard turned full PC It annoys me how he won’t bring Artie back on 9 years of great radio from artie completely forgotten about
This was the time that Artie took John, and some others on the road doing comedy. John would only do like a lame 5 minute act, and expected most of the money. This was when John got it in his thick skull that he was a "comedian".
@@Rotary_Phone he still to this day says “I’m a headliner, I killed!!” And what I’ve seen of his act is just horrific. The last video was somewhere in Florida, 3 people in the audience and he drank about 5 beers in the 20 minutes he did. Just atrocious. The dabbler.
This is one of the best old clips I’ve ever heard. Artie was a lotta fun as a fan to hear. The Artie days were one of the great periods of Howard’s evolution. Artie and John here were about the closest to Sal and Richard. Sad what has become of Artie.
Yeah he was very charismatic at this time, seemed genuinely happy. I don’t know if the show went to his head or if the drugs changed him later on but I guess he made his dream happen he wanted to be on the Stern show. He should have lightened up on his touring but I guess when you’re offered a million dollars to do an act you can do in your sleep it’s hard to turn it down
slapshot01j Yeah he was addicted to heroin and had all his personal issues because Howie was so stingy paying him a million a year to do a dream job. He never even came close to making that type of money before even with the Norm Show. It wasn’t about money. You obviously missed my point
What about John?2 Strokes an alcoholic and if possible even a bigger Low Life. And after the Amazing sell your soul to the devil luck he had to give half his cash away to his wife. His future earnings are limited. The Once Lucky Loser
I've known plenty of guys just like John, who never have any cash on them and always try to excuse it by saying they forgot to go to the ATM. They always say they're going to pay you later, but never do, and you feel like a heel asking them for your money back. They know exactly what they're doing.
John remains a shameless mooch to this day. He's never not thinking about a way to get something out of somebody; be it money, favours or just personal validation.
Hey John sorry to call but you have that $100 I lent you last week???? John- you rotten aids asshole Don’t you remember the time I called triple A for you back in high school when we broke down In your car
Artie ever accepted that he was so talented, he couldnt stay sober on stage ; its saddening looking back. Artie could have been great for years maybe with a netflix special, married to Dana and a couple of kids. But he threw everything away
anyone can get a Netflix special nowadays. some terrible comedians. but I get what you are saying. he ruined his career and his life and it's sad. but he's an addict and he needs help but he has to want it and I don't think he has it in him unfortunately
This is my favorite Stern clip of all time. It always makes me laugh. It contains everything I love about the show in one clip. Sitting around rapping turns into John snitching on Artie, Artie's insane meal list, criticizing and destroying Stuttering John, lots of laughter, Artie's voice going super-high while recounting their horrible lifestyles, the lockup of John's face when he says "RUSS MENEVE"... I love the Jokeman and Billy too but these years are when I was 22 and listened every morning when I woke up to go to work. I haven't listened to the show live for about ten years but these fucking maniacs tearing each other apart is the greatest source of entertainment ever created.
Yeah, I totally get that man. For me, being older than you, I remember being on a Lunch break, in about 1995, sitting in the parking lot of Tower Records laughing like a mental patient in my car with tears rolling down my face when Gilbert, Jackie and Howard were all busting on Ratso's new houses he bought on the water LOL
I still enjoy listening daily except for when they have gross High Pitch Eric on. I don't wish anyone death but of all the wack packers that have died...why did it have to be the better Eric.
Im torn..I think that Jackie and artie just added flavor..for me the best years were like 2001 to 2007..so the end of Jackie, and artie before he was sloppy and angry in his last two years. I also loved stuttering John and KC's contributions too, alot of which also feel in this era..regardless though, the show is pretty bad nowadays..I still listen but skip a lot of interviews...and the PC'ness of the show is pretty bad.. But howard's 65 and it is what it is I guess
@altruistic angel lol jackie and billy west were better than artie... says old women and mentally challenged males who laugh at the "jokemans" horrible "jokes"
@altruistic angel Yea sure, If you polled most weirdo nostalgic "I've been listening to stern since day one and any era after the 80's and early 90's is shit" but as far as the "jackie vs artie" years are you kidding me? Around the time artie joined those were the golden years, and the show grew EXPONENTIALLY because of it, and I wonder how the stern show has been doing since artie's departure? Yea, it's been pretty horrible. The stern show is now insanely pedestrian and boring
Does anyone noticed that Howard started laughing in the same high pitch laugh as Artie does when he laughed along with him. Have you ever heard him laugh like this since Artie left?
The Funny Bone in Columbus OH is such a great club! I grew up not far from that area of town and its cool to see really great comedy across the walkway from a Lego store lol
what a great show! artie really helped get the feel get across of the situation in life you try to avoid but cant and just how evil those moments can really encompass!
This is so funny because I've worked at steak n shake for over 2 years now. The food really is delicious. It's kinda cool because our breakfast tortillas do come from Mexico and our fries/onion rings come from Canada. Our chili is plain (to adhere to the older folks) but its really good. And our pressed patties are the best, the seasoning is spot on.
@@edgein1830 well since I didn't get that raise I had to work "over" to make extra money. I didn't realize anyone else knew that but it's pretty awesome you cared enough to ask. Thank you mr nails.
Robin says in a haughty indignant tone that she has “never heard of dunking grilled cheese”. So, she never dunked a grilled cheese in tomato soup? Dunking grilled cheese in chili sound great. Robin is such a fraud.
I was a chubby kid and it is not that hard to stay thin. I'm in my 40s. Drink lots of water, work out every other day for 20 minutes, light work out. Stay away from cookies and cake, cigs, and you'll be fine. Not that hard.
Howie is a 13 year old girl. Worried about his weight, loves American Idol, and is a judgmental catty bitch. For a 90 year old man, he acts like a tween girl.
The most annoying is Robin, there trying to laugh and joke about a hilarious story and she cuts them off to tell a decent story but wait till the next one is done
@@charlesgring8560 This is why I dig Stern. Created an empire by making sure people hate him. Now he's flipped the script and people who used to hate him like him, and vice versa. Z puppetmaster hasn't stopped. I'll continue my reading of grown men trying to decide who's the most annoying person on an old radio bit, LOL.
@@matthewc3998 puppetmaster? No, he's just a bandwagon jumper who has zero integrity. He is now what he always railed against. He's always been the world's biggest yenta but now he's added to it by becoming one of the biggest hypocrites ever on top of it.
Yea Arties playing softball in the park after work and running miles on a treadmill. It’s strange hearing these lies later in life when you have common sense.
Artie’s waste is a 36” ?!?! Sometimes a 34” ??!!??!!?? BULL...SHIT. HOW DELISIONAL. I love the guy though. His departure was the death knell for the show.
Pretty amazing, in hindsight, that then-34-yr-old Artie kept his schedule going for 9 years (12, counting the MadTV California era) snorting + guzzling like he did -- other victims, like Joplin or Morrison, folded up two decades earlier. Even Belushi only made it into his thirties.
Right after this, John goes into his story about the maggots in his orange juice. Lmao! I'm still a Howard fan...but damn, I miss the show from this era.
2:45"Then a bowl of chili...with Saltines, then an order of Onion-rings, ya know, the-the-the 'fried Onion-rings' , then an order of French fries...THEN a large chocolate shake with whipped cream and a cherry on top" 😆😂😆😂😆😂
John is so jealous that Artie is sitting in Jackie's chair,he can't wait to tell Howard everything Artie ate so Howard can lay into him. Steak and Shake is awesome by the way.
Howard is completely out of his depth here. Two guys talking about getting drunk and eating fast food on the road while he whines about calories and not wanting to stay out late for a comedy show. Listening to him trying to relate to Artie's lifestyle is pathetic.
Wow what a weird, angry, misplaced comment that has nothing to do with this video/topic.... thanks for letting us all know that you're a psychopathic goober though I guess?
LMFAO Steak n Shake never sold actual steaks, it's just steak meat burgers, the best drive-through chain that exist only because they actually cook the meat to order and it's not frozen
Howard used Artie up and we all laughed at his downfall. Ended with Artie sticking a knife in his gut multiple times. Artie moved his own chess pieces, but with millions behind him cheering. We're all responsible.
John would be the BEST snitch to send with a celebrity to keep from doing drugs. He’s so obsessed with what you are doing and comparing himself, he would tell Howard in a second if Artie made a sketchy call
