Today I am arrowhead hunting and fossil/ shark teeth hunting the shores, cliffs, and creeks of the Chesapeake Bay. Though I did not find any arrowheads, I did find some oyster shells from the natives using them as a food source. We did find a ton of really awesome shark teeth and fossils.
as always, have a good one guys!
special thanks to Darren Willson and Leah Thompson for taking me to this awesome area!

Hey dude, I understand the temptation but it is very illegal to dig in or pull fossils out of the cliff face. If there has been a fall, that is fair game. But please, do not dig things out of the cliffs.

One of the simplest and essential laws that must be followed for our hobby to continue to exist, is to respect the cliffs by never digging in them. While fallen chunks of clay that lay on the beach independent of the cliffs can be checked and manipulated, the cliffs themselves should never be touched. The cliffs themselves are owned by various land owners until they naturally erode and become part of the beach below the high tide line. Digging in the cliffs speeds up the erosion process and is in itself trespassing and destruction of property. When this happens, not only are laws broken, but the image and reputation of all fossil collectors are degraded. Over time this leads to more pressure to limit public access in fears that fossil collectors will negatively impact properties and communities. This isn’t a prediction, it has occurred. As if respecting property rights is not important enough, this is NOT safe! Digging in the cliffs is illegal AND dangerous. If you ever feel you have found something special and it is in the cliffs, please contact the CMM (Calvert Marine Museum). They can come out and check to see if there is anything truly special about the specimen, if so contact the respective land owner’s, and with land owner permission, safely extract it with minimal damage to the cliff and with safety as a priority. Thank you to all those who enjoy this hobby and respect the laws and etiquettes unique to the hobby.

@@eastcoastlithics sorry if I came off pretty rude at first I'll admit I get pretty butt hurt when I see this stuff. We live here and respect the laws then we see lots of ppl come here from all over the world and they just don't care. So I'm sorry for being a little rude I'm glad you understand and commented back the way you did. If you wanna find some good fossils PM me and I'll try to help best I can.

Very good finds all of them my young friend. That's a great place. I have several places where there are millions of clams, oysters, starfish, which are fossilized but it is very difficult to get them out of where they are. They are completely turned into rocks. Yes, friend, it is from a tiger shark, an already extinct shark. That Mako shark is one of the most abundant there is. It seems that there you can find hundreds of bottles from different times my friend. I was glad to accompany you. Blessings on your way.

@eastcoastlithics
@eastcoastlithics Год назад
It was public acess a few months before and then they shut the area down for the winter (there were no major collapses) the park ranger was only right in doing his job. There were a ton of other collectors there doing the same thing but that doesnt make it right.
