Hi, all! Welcome back!
I've had some incredible luck with Instagram giveaways lately. This beautiful 1,000-piece puzzle is one that I won in a giveaway hosted by Ginger Deverell, the artist who created the image on this puzzle. This is 'Artisan Bakery,' produced by Villager Puzzles, a woman-owned Canadian brand that selects artwork from female Canadian artists. This is the second Villager Puzzle I've featured on my site and, coincidentally, the second puzzle I've won from the artist who created the image.
Regarding the build, this was a medium-difficulty puzzle. It was easy enough to sort out different sections by color, but the repeating nature of the patterns did add some difficulty. I had a lot of success sorting the pieces by shape size and reorienting them based on the directional elements in the artwork. The pink background, for example, has short vertical light pink lines, which made it easy to orient the puzzle pieces at least partially correctly. The colored ribbons on the cake are relatively thin, which meant that you mostly had pieces with a dark patch of color on the bottom and a harsh edge on the top. Rotating the pieces so that the colored patch was on the same side made it easier to identify which pieces belonged together.
This illustration is quite lovely. The color choice is *chef's kiss*. I took a moment after pouring out the pieces to admire all the colors, especially how nicely they pair with the blue backing of the pieces. My one critique would be to have fewer repeating elements in the floral patterns. Multiple elements were repeated in the ribbons of color, which I think would have benefited from some variation, especially as the individual bands of color repeated across the cake (two brown ribbons, two green ribbons, two sage ribbons, and two gray ribbons).
Quality-wise, Villager Puzzles are well-designed and well-made. My only real complaint is that the piece fit is quite loose. Both times I've done a Villager Puzzle, I had to look at the box to try to put the pieces together approximately where they will end up. It's very frustrating to assemble pieces and then try to move them only to have them fall apart, which is what happens with this brand. Aside from that issue, the packaging is solid, with a magnetic closure box that has the full image on the top and inside the lid. The puzzle comes with a large print of the image and is packaged in a plastic bag. The piece shapes are a traditional ribbon cut with a decent variation of shapes and a beautiful matte linen texture. A really top-tier puzzle with the exception of that fit.
I do think Villager Puzzles is one of the nicer brands out there and worth considering if you are in the market for a new puzzle. I love supporting smaller companies, and since Villager Puzzles is run by a single woman, Kelly (with help from her family), I think that certainly qualifies. She has a wonderful mission and I recommend taking a look more at the Villager Puzzles website to learn more. villagerpuzzle...

What a lovely Timelapse! This puzzle is beautiful on its own and even better with the music and plants.

Aw, thanks! I don't time myself and am definitely not the fastest of puzzlers (although not bad either). 😅 I don't have exact numbers but I would say between 6-12 hours. Obviously that's a huge time difference but it depends on difficulty and whether or not my husband helps out. So probably 12 for the super spicy ones and 6-8 for an average difficulty one. Although I did just do a gradient one that was maybe around 4.5/5? My husband is the faster puzzler of the two of us so anytime he helps it cuts the time considerably. This one was probably 7-8 hours? ...I should really just buy a timer 😂
