This song makes me feel so many things. The little details of her voice. The chorus distortions, along with the anxiety inducing camera shakes. The double entendre (at least to me) of actual facts that presumably happened in her life (though I don’t think it was the same person) but that can also relate to fame as a concept, since she SOLD her heart to her fans, and it got dark with stalkers, and maybe even someone who hit her… I don’t know how literal to take that lyric. I do know she’s been in an abusive relationship before but she was younger, and I don’t think it would have been the same person she refers to as a pretty boy who signed the nda. That’s just me guessing, though. An additional thing lyrically that I like is how “stars” is used. It not only rhymes with cars and the lights that are whooshing around her (creating an underlying visual association of the blinding confusing and dizzying twirl of dangerous lights), but there’s also a sort of further layer there in terms of fame and stars, fame hit her so hard that she saw stars (as in other famous people). And then there is also the darkness and empty, vast space and a distance that is the only context in which the stars in the sky can be seen. So that part? Works in all ways the word can be understood. Which is ridiculous. She does this so well. The visuals, the lyrics, the voice. And Finneas with the fricking beat and production. I can’t get over how good they are. EVERY TIME.

She talked about this Situation in an interview a while back where somebody found her house on Google maps and showed up to her house looking for her and she said it made it worse she didn’t feel safe anymore and she had to take it to court and she had to get her house blurred out and her address blurred out on Google maps where you cannot even search it anymore is a grown ass man showed up at her house
