There's a lot of people in my family who react really badly to the smell of oranges. They actually make me feel more stressed. I've had to learn so much self control to cope with people eating them at their desks in my office lol. I feel its not something anyone else seems to get.

I dunno about the smelling part, but vitamin c helps with stress so that's why eating oranges and other citrus fruits helps

@@jcherry875 i don't think she does it on purpose. she's an artist, yeah, but that doesn't mean that she knows every medium and everything about every medium. Watercolors are new to her, she's normally an acrylic or digital painter, and she's said that multiple times. I think she gave it a fair shot for the mediums she knows. /shrug

It is meant to be a watercolor palette, acrylic paints dry and are no good. You can dry watercolors.

The Altoid hack was made for watercolor and gauche, not acrylics actually. The tubed watercolors/gauche can be put in the little tin, let dry, and then you can travel with it. No need for the little gum plastic unless your tubed products are really thin at first. Another good choice for the water containers on the go is using medicine bottles, my parents and I use it all the time for making our own alcohol swabs instead of buying expensive ones.

I’ve got a bunch of my dad’s old film containers too, useful for coins.

I actually made a travel watercolor tin from the tiniest Bob Ross mint tin. It holds 4 of the little half pans of watercolor and is so small I take it everywhere along with a refillable water brush pen.

I use the plastic left over from my nausea meds for altoid hacks =) I've also used magnetic sheets adhered to half pans

I actually have a lockable one. It looks similar to the one Chloe has but with a button on one side to unlock the lids so I can actually pop them open. Traveling and not having my meds spill everywhere is amazing. I can agree in theory for most... Except lavender makes me violently ill and orange can have a very similar effect as lavender on those with some mental illnesses.

Lavender gives me a raging headache. Oranges and lemon smells put me to bed.

Yeah I just saw the blobs and presumed it was acrylic - I had no idea the watercolors from tubes actually dry to be reactived later. It makes perfect sense to be honest but I just didn’t even think about it haha

Gouache will crack when dry, so it needs to be eiter a) stored in an airtight container, or b) have a humectant added to it, like honey or glycerine. M graham gouache already has honey so if you want to store it rather than use it straight out of the pan, that’s your best bet. I use M. Graham and Holbein with glycerin added and I store it in an airtight palette (like the transon pallette) and that works for me.

It depends on the brand. Not all brands of gouache crack, and just a drop of glycerine added to the pan solves the issue for the brands that do.

Yep, you go into any photo developing shop and ask for empty film canisters and usually they will give them to you for free.

Yes! Using something less dry and stiff would help a lot too, but the method in the hack is great for mark making in experimental art that can yield some really unique results depending on what the ‘brush’ is made of and how it’s applied!
